Overview

Photos and Description of this Monhegan holiday house

4 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, Lovely Views & Close to Everything

This fabulous two story, four bedroom, 1.5 bath cape-style home offers spectacular water views from both floors. The house will comfortably accommodate a large group or an extended family. Magnolia House offers an open floor plan, which is flooded with natural light through the large picture windows and many skylights. Spacious, well stocked kitchen makes cooking a pleasure. Sun yourself on one of three private decks overlooking the beautifully designed perennial gardens,or enjoy the handcrafted stone fireplace on a cool evening.

Separate media room offers quiet space for reading, relaxing, or family movie night with flatscreen and Netflix. House has several high end bluetooth stereos for streaming music on the high speed wifi. For extra guests, there is a full size futon and a single pull out bed in addition to the bedrooms. Hopefully you won't need it, but there is a large desk and office space on the second floor. Unlike many Monhegan properties, we are more than happy to consider pets.

Just past the Trailing Yew on Lobster Cove Road, Magnolia House is only minutes from Fish and Swim Beaches, galleries and the rest of the village in one direction and Lobster Cove in the other direction.

Beautiful home in dire need of deep cleaning and new septic

  • 1 of 5

The home is beautifully situated on the island of Mohegan. The home has great bones and was dirty. With a good deep cleaning and a paint job the place would be great. The kitchen floor is a broken mosaic that was falling apart daily. The water pressure was ok and the tap water had a red residue to it. The biggest issue was the pervasive septic smell that was really strong in front of the house and on the side all of the time. I m not sure if it was from the property or the house next door but it was bad.

The owner might consider getting a professional cleaning crew in pre-season,mid-season and before each rental. The person that is cleaning the space does a superficial job. We left the property much cleaner than we found it. Everything was grimy and that's too bad. There was no toilet paper on the premises.

Wonderful house, great views, excellent location

  • 5 of 5

We liked everything about this house. Everything was as described or better. The property was clean and well-maintained. The Zeecks were easy to work with while we were arranging the rental, and we did not need any additional services once we were on Monhegan.

I would definitely recommend this property to a friend or relative.

The deck off the master bedroom brought in the morning light and was also a fine place from which to view the famous Monhegan sunsets. Or you could just sit out there and watch the comings and goings on the road. We also liked the little reading nook that was right off the master bedroom.

The kitchen was large, fun to work in and well equipped. Our granddaughters liked their hideaway room with its kid-sized door, as well as the outdoor playhouse and the yard.

We all enjoyed the numerous books, puzzles and games that were in the house.

We've been to Monhegan numerous times over the past 40 years and this time we're eager to return to this house, not just the Island.

Wonderful Home on a Magical Island

  • 5 of 5

If you've never been to Monhegan Island, it's difficult to describe. It's welcoming, rustic, and for lack of a better word, magical. I have gone for many years; through my own childhood and now with my children. The Island still holds the same charm. This year, however, was our best trip ever due to the warm and beautiful home of Shaw and Elizabeth. This home is a gem - homey and spacious - a perfect combination of "island cape" with all the modern conveniences of mainland living. Tons of room, indoors and out, for a full family, with unique and creative details throughout. Great for kids and adults. And the owners are tremendously helpful, gracious, and available. I would recommend this rental to everyone...but won't, in an effort to keep the Island and this house a secret gem!

Owner's Response: Daniel, Thanks so much for your review. We like the place too! While we are no longer living in NYC, I enjoyed talking about our shared experiences there. You and your family were perfect guests. We are really looking forward to having you back on the island and hope to cross paths next time. Best, Shaw

A Real Charmer

  • 5 of 5

This artists’ house has incredible charm and lots of originality. I loved all the different views from the windows, especially observing the changes throughout the day from the big picture windows. The large fireplace gives the house a very cozy atmosphere, and there are plenty of opportunities to just step out onto one of the many decks. This house is a real gem to stay in.

Women's week away

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of staying in the Stiler Berk home during the last week of June and had such a wonderful time! The weather did not always cooperate with us, but we did not worry because this lovely home kept us comfortable and cozy and happy when the rain came. Everything about this house is unique - from the stone fireplace to the artistic charms throughout to the great deck areas. It really is a lovely and well maintained property. And the location is fantastic, right between the village and Lobster Cove. We're looking forward to returning next year!

Monhegan Island is situated 10 miles from the nearest mainland accessible only by ferry. The island is approximately 1 mile square. Beautiful cliffs & woods, spectacular sunsets over the bay, 17 miles of trails, a charming village, artists studios and galleries, gift shops & restaurants are just a few of the attractions. The village encompasses a third of the island while the remainder is preserved in its natural state. There are no cars on the island. Miles of hiking trails take you through magical woodlands to spectacular cliffs and ocean views. Hiking, visiting artists studios, fishing, swimming, boating, birdwatching, and kayaking are a few of the things the island offers.

Most importantly it’s a time to slow down and unwind and enjoy its natural beauty casual ambience.

The island also has a wonderful lighthouse, art museum, library, general store and several restaurants and a coffee house.

Monhegan Island is still one of the country's foremost artists colonies, and offers some of the most dramatic scenery and best birding on the east coast.
