About FernyBrook Cottage

FernyBrook Cottage is located right near Purlingbrook Falls in the World Heritage Springbrook National Park, Qld. Australia. It is a perfect retreat for couples seeking to enjoy the tranquility and natural surrounds of Springbrook World Heritage National Park: to relax, breath the fresh air and to take a moment to observe the beauty of nature. The cottage is owner operated and has a cosy, personal and friendly feel. We require at least 2 days advance notice of a booking. Check-in is from 2.00pm and check-out by 10.00am, however times are flexible and may be altered,

if possible, on your request.

FernyBrook Cottage is conveniently located right next to the the walking trails of Springbrook National Park at Gwongorella Picnic area, near the top of Purling Brook Falls; plus the cottage's peaceful gardens and babbling brook provide ideal surrounds for bird watching and quiet meditation. And for those still in need of a good espresso coffee to start the day, Dancing Waters cafe (serving coffee, cake and light meals) is just a short walk away, as is the Springbrook General Store and Cafe (which offers a wide selection of hearty meals and also has liquor licence and bar)....So there is little need to drive once you arrive and the cottage's covered carport provides all-weather protection for your car.

The Cottage, built as a fore runner to the 'Mouses House', is of a similar chalet style with internal timber lining and has all the character of a cosy mountain cottage, plus it is set amidst a beautiful rainforest garden bordered by Kuralboo Creek. The cottage is available for short term rental for singles or couples as we can only cater for up to two people. However, if there are two couples, we may be able to arrange accommodation for an extra couple with an adjacent cottage. We apologise that our accommodation is not suitable for children or for pets.

FernyBrook Cottage is fully self contained with a cosy wood fire (wood supplied in the cooler months) and reverse cycle air conditioning for those chilly nights. There is a comfy queens sized bed upstairs and the kitchen, bathroom and living area are downstairs. A large, covered back deck with a barbeque provides the perfect outdoor space for relaxation and bird feeding or for simply observing nature to the sounds and sights of the many birds and brightly coloured parrots that feed from the seed trays on the verandah and in the garden.

As the evening arrives or when staying indoors, for your entertainment there is a large selection of books, games, DVDs, and a flat screen TV .... or if you prefer you can just relax with a sherry and a good book from our extensive library, in front of the fire. The nights at Springbrook are so quiet and the stars are so bright that we suggest you take a torch lit walk to see how different the night sky is away from the bright lights of the Gold you may also spot the little nocturnal animals that come out to feed.

What to Bring with you to Springbrook

When you come to visit Springbrook, please keep in mind that mountain weather can be cooler and wetter than on the coast so it's advisable to pack in some warm clothes, wet weather gear, suitable hiking shoes and a torch for night walking.

The Cottage is fully self contained with a well stocked pantry (not including fresh food) and has all those little extra items to make your stay enjoyable. The local cafes and general store have a good selection of meals, however the nearest super markets are at Nerang and Mudgeeraba.

Also please note there is no petrol on the mountain, so you will need to ensure you have adequate fuel for your journey, with the nearest petrol stations also being at Nerang and Mudgeeraba.

Telstra Mobile phones receive the best reception at Springbrook. You may need to go to high points or lookouts if you have trouble receiving mobile connections with other servers. There is a public phone at the Springbrook General Store nearby.

For your added security, this property is only managed in Australia and we never request payments be made to overseas bank accounts.

Directions on how to get to Ferny Brook Cottage at Kuralboo Street, Springbrook.

Springbrook National Park is approximately 100km south of Brisbane and can be reached via Nerang (exit 69) or via Mudgeeraba (exit 79 south bound, or exit 80 northbound). The distance to Springbrook from Nerang is 42Km and from Mudgeeraba is 29km however, the Mugereebah/Springbrook ROAD IS PRESENTLY CLOSED FOR REPAIR. and so you may now connect, via route 42, to the Nerang- Murwillumbah Road (turn left at Advancetown to go to Pine Creek Road).

If coming via Nerang, follow the Nerang-Murwillumbah Road and then take the Springbrook turn off (left hand turn) at Pine Creek Road, then turn right at the intersection with Springbrook Road. THE PINE CREEK ROAD TO SPRINGBROOK IS THE ONLY ROAD OPEN AT PRESENT.

After driving through the rock divide (just after the Pine creek road/ Springbrook Road intersection) near the top of the mountain, continue along Springbrook Road, keeping to the left, past the Fudge Shop, past the school, across the cement bridge and then turn left into Forestry Road. At the entrance to the National Park and next to Dancing Waters Cafe, turn left into Kuralboo Street, adjacent to the National Park.

Again please note that there is NO PETROL ON THE MOUNTAIN so you will need to ensure you have adequate fuel for your journey, with the nearest petrol stations being at Nerang and Mudgeeraba.

Where ever you choose to stay in Springbrook, we hope you will enjoy your visit to this beautiful, world heritage wilderness.

Beautiful Quiet Peaceful Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Fernybrook Cottage. The cottage was very well equipped with lots of little extras so we felt very spoilt. Treats were left on the kitchen bench and eaten in front of the log fire. Lunch was enjoyed on the back deck in the rainforest garden. The bed was very comfortable and warm and so quiet apart from the wind rustling in the trees. The cottage was so warm and cosy it was a pleasure to be able to stay there.

Best weekend away

  • 5 of 5

Such a great little cottage. Everything you need is here including complimentary snacks and plenty of cooking ingredients and utensils. Perfect location to walk to purlingbrook falls early to miss the crowds. The wood heater was divine and very cosy. We even made use of the chess board. Definitely recommend staying here. We will be back!
