About the property

Peaceful, private, spotlessly clean, 2 level self contained apartment fitted with quality furniture/bedding/linen, stocked mini fridge/pantry, Foxtel & WiFi. Easy walking distance to Northcote, North Fitzroy's best food/coffee, Edinburgh Gardens & transport. Shared courtyard garden with main residence, but otherwise a stand alone apartment with independent access.

Perfect for an extended stay, the Stables were built in 1888 and refitted to self contained, sun lit, private accommodation. Split over two levels, it is fully heated (with a/c), tastefully decorated and provides great accommodation for one night or a month for 2 people.

We've designed the stables so you don't need to bring anything with you other than your clothes! Everything you expect in a hotel room and serviced apartment are provided. Soap, shampoo, hair dryer, ironing facilities, quality linen and towels as well stocked fridge and pantry and full kitchen are provided.

The Stables are at the rear of a large block (for North Fitzroy) and share the rear court yard with the main house where we live, but otherwise have independent access.

The Fridge is stocked with chocolate, cheese, milk, yoghurt, eggs and bacon. All new quality utensils, plates, cups, glasses, bowls, fry-pans, trays and saucepans. Condiments, pop corn and pancake mix provided within the price. Lavazza coffee and T2 teas included. Some food basics (pasta, tuna, rice, pasta sauce, soup, canned goods, cereals, sauces) are available for you to prepare meals allowing late night and hungry travelers something healthy to eat.

The stables are private and secure and have their own private access from the street. As we also live on the property, many of our guests have told us how reassuring it is to know that a helping hand is close-by if needed. We thoroughly clean the Stables prior to every stay.

A porta-cot with sheets and blanket is also available as is a child-proof gate for the stairs.

The stables are suited to both leisurely as well as business stays. We are experienced travellers and have experienced the good, the bad and the ugly.

The Space

The apartment was originally stables for horses that serviced the Victorian home located on the same property and with which it shares the rear garden.

A ground floor area with full kitchen and an adjoining living area including HDTV, DVD, Cable TV, WiFi, coffee table, couches and desk. Upstairs is a large double bedroom with good natural light, new quality queen size bed, expensive linen & pillows including quilt, electric blanket, bed side tables/lights and second TV.

All kitchen items, linen, towels and basic toiletries are quality items and included within the price. The separate bathroom is located off the bedroom on the 2nd level. Please note, the toilet is located on the ground level as a powder room.

Falconer Street is a classic wide street with ample unrestricted car parking right out the front. For cyclists, the Stables have on-site and secure undercover storage for bikes.

More than the usual extras are provided to ensure your stay is as hassle free and comfortable as possible.

As we live at the front of the property, we are typically available to assist you or provide advice, but will respect your privacy and leave you to enjoy the Stables.

The Location

Possibly North Fitzroy's best location with a mix of accessibility and a beautifully peaceful neighbourhood within walking distance of Edinburgh Gardens, Queens Parade and St George's Road shops and cafés. Park within 100m as is Rushall train station. Close to the Old Colonialists nursing home, Merri Creek, Yarra and Capital City bike trails connecting the inner city with outer suburbs in all directions.

Quality food and coffee within 200m which is one of the best attractions of North Fitzroy. Friendly and peaceful location with minimal traffic. 5 minutes to Smith and Brunswick Streets food, cafés and shops.

We have compiled a detailed tour guide outlining all the best food, coffee, restaurants, bike paths, shopping, food sources and public transport within the area. We will email this to you upon booking giving you plenty of time to plan your stay and maximise your time away.

Excellent accessibility to Melbourne's sporting precinct (MCG, AAMI Stadium, Melbourne Park) via the train (5 stops) and tram systems as well as the CBD and Etihad Stadium. We are very central to shops, public transport and some of the best food available in inner Melbourne. Queens Parade and St Georges Rd shops are within walking distance with Smith and Brunswick Streets being less than a 5 minute drive away. Rushall train station (South Morang line) is 150m away.

If you need an inexpensive hire car, Flexi-car have a car pod within 300m of the Stables and you should consider signing up with them. This works well.

The Capital City and Merri Creek Bike trails are 120m away at Rushall train station (Sth Morang line). This intersects with almost every other bike path in the inner city, right on your doorstep.

By train, the MCG is 5 stops away (12 mins), Flinders Street is 6 stops (15 mins) and Southern Cross Station (Etihad Stadium) is 7 stops away. No. 86 tram to the City is 400m away and no. 112 tram is 800m away. 504 bus service 75m away. Two rechargeable MyKi transport cards are provided for you to use.

Eastern Freeway approx 1.5km away and the airport is approximately 25 minutes away in off peak times.

Coming from the airport, come down the Tullamarine freeway, exit left at Brunswick Rd and go ALL the way to the end. Don't deviate. Brunswick Road becomes Holden Street which then becomes Rushall Crescent. Falconer Street is first on your right directly opposite Rushall train station.

This was perfect for us as we were visiting relatives in North Fitzroy. The Stables had everything we could wish for included which made our stay really easy. Nick sent us a detailed guide to the accommodation and the local neighbourhood which made life easy for us. The Stables are very clean, really comfortable and we slept very well. This was so much better than a hotel room and was our second stay at the Stables. We recommend it to our friend and parents who have also stayed and loved it.

The North Fitzroy Stables were brilliant I stayed there while on an extended stay in Melbourne. The location was great, a short drive or walk to the heart of Brunswick and smith street, yet the place was in a very quite street, so the normal issues with inner city living just weren't an issue. The accommodation was very clean and well looked after, with a proper kitchen, and the fridge and kitchen cupboards were stocked better than you'd expect in any normal B&B. Nick and Georgina were extremely friendly hosts, who went out of their way to make sure everything was ok and I was looked after, couldn't ask for better hosts! If you're after a nice one bedroom place to stay in the heart of Melbourne, I'd highly recommend staying here:-)

What a Gem

What a gem! I arrived on a cold night and found a toasty corner of North Fitzroy waiting for me. Nick and Georgina are wonderful hosts and very attentive and non-obtrusive at the same time. The place is stocked with food and drink which made breakfast preparations easy. So thoughtful! The bed was firm and comfortable. It even has electric blankets! I slept diagonally on the bed sans husband and children. Wifi was a snap, finding the keys even easier in the lockbox, and the location was whisper quiet. Perfect for a long weekend of work and rest. Thanks so much for a fantastic time. I will be back. It will be my little pied a terre for the next time I am in town without husband and children!

Excellent Value

Excellent value! The Stables was immaculate and exactly as described. The bungalow was comfortable and cozy. Top quality items throughout, from the bedding and linens to the very generous food items that far exceed what is required for a complete breakfast. Everything in the stables was in proper working order (WIFI, heating, appliances, kitchen, etc) and communication prior to arrival and during stay was easy. Nick and Georgina were very responsive and literally a text message or door knock away. The Stables felt very homey with separate bedroom (upstairs) and living area & well equipped kitchen (lower level). Tons of natural light and air. View to a beautiful maintained garden. We had independent entrance to the apartment which was nice. The neighborhood is great and provided for a very Australian experience. There are plenty of great restaurants nearby (Nick recommendations were fabulous). Something worth highlighting is public transportation: bus, train, tram are a short walk away. The train to the city is literally a 2 minute walk away. This allowed for easy access to the city (~20 min ride). Also, street parking was very easy. The location was perfect. The toilet is in the lower level while bedroom is upstairs, but not a problem for us as there was proper lighting during the evening to go downstairs (sensor activated). Georgina & Nick made our visit to Melbourne a very special one. They are caring and generous, and their apartment was the perfect choice for our visit. Our stay at the Stables was fantastic. We hope to visit again soon!

Beautiful, peaceful, tranquil place

Beautiful apartment, private and peaceful. Perfectly located near beautiful gardens, public transport and great cafes. Superbly fitted out with everything you could possibly want, Nick & Georgina have really thought of everything. The detail they have gone to is more than anyone could expect. They are gracious hosts who are relaxed and super friendly and only happy to help, but did leave us to enjoy the space in private. The Stables were homely, really clean and unbelievably comfortable. Plenty of sun light, a/c (thank you) and a stocked fridge and pantry. We really can't recommend this enough. Thanks so much

Beautiful space, homely and well thought out

A brilliant place with everything you could wish for provided. Spotlessly clean, the space is like a small 2 level house with every imaginable feature provided. It's peaceful, with beautiful linen, plenty of food and treats and extremely welcoming and helpful hosts. I felt very secure and safe and the location is great as its so quiet for the inner city and has public transport within a 2 minute walk. Great cafes and food all around. The photos probably don't do it justice. I stayed for 2 weeks and loved it.
