Absolutely beautiful home, the pictures do not do it justice. Two adults and four kids ages 19 months to 10 were very comfortable (home is very kid safe) in this gorgeous lake front home for Spring break. The lake is literally right there, no neighbors close by. The marina is your only neighbor and there is not much traffic from it. The bedrooms, bathrooms & closets are large. The views from all the windows in the house are amazing. Everything you need to cook with is equipped in the kitchen. There were plenty of towels. The couch is the biggest couch I have ever seen. My husband and I, and our four children were comfortable, all on it watching movies. Bob, the owner, was kind enough to let us borrow his extra life jackets. Loved fishing off the dock every morning and evening [actually caught a lot of fish (catfish, bream, bass)]. We also rented a boat one afternoon from the marina next door. Already inquired about coming back in the summer! And that is a big deal for us because we always rent at a different location. YES! That is how much we all loved this spot…
We spent five days here during Fall Break for our children. This was a great location - central to many fun activities and the dock/lake were perfect for our kayaks!! The house was clean, plenty of room, pretty views of the lake, well stocked kitchen, and several spaces for us to play games together as a family. The flowers and fruit basket were special touches when we arrived. Thanks for a fun vacation spot and for sharing your home!
This was our second visit to this house but I assure you it will be our last. We gave it one star for the layout and and the view, zero for the cleanliness and deficiencies. Outside: lawn (and weeds), left to grow almost two feet before, after several phone calls, emails, and visits to his front door, Bob finally had someone mow it. The guy who mowed it didn't finish it and was supposed to come back the next day (per Bob's email), but never did show up. Cobwebs all over the porches and boat dock along with very large ants. Gas BBQ grille starter broken, grills filthy and base so greasy it actually caught on fire when we tried to use it. Overhead fan blades caked with dirt and bird dropping all over upstairs deck and chairs.
Indoors: Drapes old and musty, TV's have cable but only basic channels and both are the old small tube types, pots and pans scratched and missing various basic sizes, carving knives are so dull they would have trouble cutting butter, dishwasher utensil tray has a big hole on one side and is unusable. Screen door off porch ripped, carpet frayed, upstairs toilet seat stained, Wi-Fi unit old and needs to be reset several times a day,
We wanted to clean up the house and asked Bob for a vacuum cleaner, mop, and pail. He did drop it off the next day but the bagless vacuum was filled with dirt, hair and who knows what, the mop was a sponge type which reeked, and was filthy along with the dirty pail, which we had to clean before we could use.
My wife and I felt so uncomfortable and dirty living there so although we booked for three weeks, we left after two. We felt that Bob should give us some sort of rebate but after I gave him a heads up of the problems, he stopped communicating with us. Old is one thing, filth is another. We took pictures of all the problem areas.
This is the second time we've rented from Bob over the past few years. A great home for two couples and couldn't ask for a better lake location. In a no-wake, quiet cove even though you are looking out across at a marina. Loved sitting on the back deck watching the world go by!! Bob is very good to deal with and very attentive. Location is convenient to downtown.
We have stayed at On Golden Pond twice and we have loved it both times. It is very close to Hiawassee and right on Lake Rabun...we can't wait to go back.
First off, we were greeted by the gracious host/owner Bob. As Bob is extremely knowledgeable about the area, he gave us a tour of the beautiful property and a quick run down of the surrounding areas. The morning views of the lake, from the property, are to die for on both levels (upper and lower).
Hands down, this crown jewel of the area.
