A comfortable, spacious and elegant family home in a quiet area near Echo Point.
About Kate Wallace
Kate and Robert both grew up in Sydney but have lived in the Blue Mountains and the nearby area most of the time since the 1980s. We love it here and think the Blue Mountains are one of the world's really special places. We have both lived elsewhere, on a small holding in the south of New Zealand and on Bruny Island in Tasmania but we have returned to the mountains because we feel this is the best place to be.
Kate Wallace purchased this House in 2015
Why Kate Wallace chose Katoomba
We chose Kookaburra Cottage because it is a lovely house in a perfect position close to Echo Point but peaceful and with a delightful aspect. It has the feel of a 1950s comfortable family home with room to relax and beautiful picture windows which capture the view across the escarpment. It is a very well built house, warm in winter and cool in summer, facing north east, the sunniest and most cheerful aspect. The enclosed and private back garden is a special delight.
What makes this House unique
Many people remember family holidays in the Blue Mountains with affection and nostalgia and we want to transport them back to a time when life was simpler and less hurried. Kookaburra Cottage is the sort of house where you can spend a week or two if you wish and feel relaxed and at home. Our guests often comment that they haven't felt so peaceful for many years.

Comfortable, spacious home with everything you need and that old world charm.
The snow was an added bonus and made the experience even more memorable.
Thank you very much, Ross. We are very glad that you enjoyed your stay and the snow. You certainly arrived in time for some real mountains weather.
Very lovely stay!!!
We were very happy with this place. Comfortable beds, very clean and we appreciated all the little details such as organic milk and access to a compost bin. My elderly Dad loved sitting in the sun/lounge room and looking out at the trees and loved how beautifully it was furnished. Kate was always very quick to respond if I had any queries - very happy with our stay here. Many thanks!
Thank you very much. We really appreciate your lovely review and we're particularly happy to know that your father was able to relax and enjoy himself. Do come back again some time. Spring and autumn are lovely times up here.
We had a great time. What a special home way from home.
Thank you, Elena. We are very glad that you enjoyed your holiday so much and hope to see you again.
My family loved our 3 night stay. The house is in a great location and is completely warm and cosy. Kookaburra cottage has everything you could want (plus more!). I would very highly recommend it.
Thank you very much for taking the trouble to write this lovely review. We loved having you as guests and hope that you will return before too long.
Beautiful and cozy cottage
We came at the coldest time of the year but we still enjoyed our stay in Kookaburra Cottage so much. At day time, we walked to the Echo Point, the Three Sisters and the chocolate company which are all within walking distance from the cottage, and we could easily take a local bus there to visit the Scenic World and Katoomba falls, etc. My parents and my kids all loved this beautiful and cozy cottage and we loved spending our evenings here very much. My kids also enjoyed playing in the garden under the sunshine despite it was very cold. Thanks the cottage owner for giving me prompt response every time I asked about the cottage, the directions, etc., and for providing everything we needed in the cottage. Highly recommended for families and couples!
Thank you this lovely review, Elsie. Yes, it was very cold when you came to stay but I'm very glad you loved the cottage and you stayed warm there. I hope you will return some time when the weather is not so cold and windy.
Fantastic weekend at Kookaburra Cottage!
What an absolutely beautiful cottage & pristine condition! We loved everything about it.... it's ideal location (we walked to the three sisters), the comfort and ambiance of the home and the peacefulness. There were six of us & when we weren't out and about, we just enjoyed sitting around in the living room watching a movie & doing one of the jigsaw puzzles..... totally relaxing. The beds were all comfortable (with electric blankets) & beautiful linen & furnishings. The photos do not do this property justice, it was far more than we were expecting. Thank you Kate for sharing your lovely property with us & for all the little extras you provided. We would love to return when next visiting the mountains. I could definitely recommend Kookaburra Cottage to others.
Thank you, June. You are most welcome. We are very glad that you enjoyed your stay so much despite the lack of sunshine that weekend. We would be delighted to see you again whenever you come back to the mountains.
