Clean, Comfortable, Creative Accommodation with a Difference!
About Kiera Poelsma
Hi there :) I'm a freelance artist, gardener and student. I enjoy cinema, making art, reading, drawing, building, dreaming, thinking outside the square, the winter fire, a pot of tea, spending time outside. I have a kitty cat who thinks he's the Fonz. We live a simple happy life in Hepburn.
Kiera Poelsma purchased this Cottage in 2006
Why Kiera Poelsma chose Hepburn
When I came to this property, it was derelict, full of rubbish with a resident family of birds. A little old miner's cottage, with a checkered history. Rumours it was once home to a Joss House are supported by Chinese coins and broken crockery found whenever I dig up the garden. Breakneck Gorge, which is to the back of the property, was named back when the football oval was a race track. One of the horses bolted & plunged its jockey over the edge & into history. A dozen years & a lot of work has seen this property, still known locally as 'Chum's place' transform into Vera's Apartment, creative & stand out guest accommodation. If you appreciate history, diversity & the arts, see you at Vera's :)
What makes this Cottage unique
Both the feel & style of Vera's is Unique. No frilly doilies or salmon pink walls here! Just a relaxed, creative & comfortable vibe with a funky & quirky fit out. On check in, a couple from Melbourne once remarked 'We were in a shop & mentioned to the retail assistant we were visiting Hepburn & she said "Are you staying at Vera's?" and we laughed & answered "Yes, we are!". She said "There's only 2 places to stay in Hepburn. Vera's is one of them"'.' On check out, another couple mentioned they were both architects from Sydney & that they LOVED the style & fit out. "This is by far the best BnB we've stayed in" Why not book accommodation with a difference... experience something unique. Experience Vera's!!

Very small, rip off at the edge of town.
Where we were directed to park wasnt lit AT ALL, so we nearly drove into the ditch in the middle of the drive way. Not mentioned at all. The place was smaller than a shoe box, felt a bit mislead. The shower was so small, there’s no room to move. The bathroom is in the kitchen by the way.
We could hear the people next door, so we didn’t feel we had a great deal of privacy. The decor was quirky and old, looks like someone raided a charity shop. The important things were fine ie modern new facilities but the rest was yuck. The bed mattress was old and uncomfortable and had huge dip in the middle. Only plus was that the cleanliness.
Edit: Got home to find an email from the owner accusing us of stealing a cushion and charging me $25. What B.S. Not worth it.
Great place to stay with it’s quirky character.
Cosy place with invented style. Use of recycled timbers to add charm. Don’t be put off by the photo of the bed because it’s warm and comfy. Hope to return for a longer stay next time. Kangaroos greeted us on the morning of day two outside on vacant land next door. Peaceful and charming town.
Perfect for a short stay....very comfortable
Cute little place to stay
Was very clean, cute and perfect for what we wanted
Cute, quirky getaway.
Beautiful home, immaculately presented. Thanks for having us!
Perfect couple's retreat
The apartment was the perfect size for my partner and I, and we found the pricing very competitive for the area. We also loved that everything was only 10-15 minutes away - the lavender farm, Mill Markets, and the Daylesford town centre. A lovely retreat for those looking for a cosy time away.
So lovely to host you and find you were comfy and that you enjoyed the quirky Vera’s vibe :) Take care
