MIDDLE PARK, MELBOURNE AND MORE
Aviary Walk is located less than 4 kilometers from the city in Middle Park, a premier Melbourne suburb often referred to as “Melbourne’s Riviera”.
Less than two kilometers long and one wide, Middle Park is bordered by Melbourne’s famous and historic tourist suburbs of Albert Park to the north and St.Kilda to the south. It sits between Port Phillip Bay and Middle Park beach and Albert Park, Melbourne’s premier sports and recreational park with its scenic lake.
Middle Park is renowned for its wide, tree lined streets and some of Melbourne’s best preserved Victorian and Edwardian architecture which are protected under strict heritage conservation. The first thing you will notice about Middle Park is the quiet, tranquil atmosphere, the lack of traffic and the absence of high rise.
The apartment is conveniently located right in the heart of Middle Park only a short walk to the Middle Park Shopping Village with its friendly, village vibe. There you will find a different cafe or restaurant for every day of the week. The Middle Park Village includes the renowned Middle Park Hotel, a supermarket, gourmet food store, clothing boutiques, hairdressers, homewares stores, newsagent, post office, laundry, dry cleaner, pharmacy, doctor, gymnasium and more.
?
Literally, walk out the front door and around the corner and you will be at Middle Park Beach where you can walk or jog along the foreshore, swim or just relax on the sandy beach. From Middle Park beach you will see boats sail by and the famous St.Kilda Pier. At the pier you can see little penguins daily at dusk or take stunning photographs of Melbourne’s skyline at sunset. Walk there and enjoy the view and a gelato.
Walk the opposite way and you will arrive at Albert Park. Albert Park is the home of the Australian Formula One Grand Prix each year in March. It is also the location of the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) where you can take a dip, slide or splash in one of eight different pools or play squash, basketball, table tennis or badminton. In Albert Park you can have a hit of tennis or golf at the nearby driving range or 18 hole golf course. There is hardly a sport that is not played in Albert Park.
For gourmet foods and bargain shopping the South Melbourne Market and the regular weekend Farmers Markets are only minutes away. There is a choice of several nearby shopping strips including Victoria Avenue in Albert Park, Bay Street in Port Melbourne and Clarendon Street in South Melbourne.
Middle Park has many safe, flat, dedicated bike paths so you can easily ride to nearby St. Kilda where you can see St.Kilda beach and pier, Luna Park, the Palais Theatre or stop at Acland Street for cakes. Complimentary bikes are provided for our guests’ enjoyment.
Easily accessible by bike or tram are many nearby major Melbourne tourist attractions including the Royal Botanical Gardens, the Shrine of Remembrance, Government House, the Yarra River and the St. Kilda Road Arts Precinct. The Arts precinct is the home of the Victorian Arts Centre, Hamer Hall, Federation Square and the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV). At the NGV in Federation Square there is an outstanding gallery of Australian and indigenous art. It’s free and it is a must see. Any visit to Melbourne city is not complete without seeing the graffiti in the laneways like Hosiery Lane, taking a walk through the Royal or Block Arcades or having a fabulous coffee in one of the many laneway cafés. Also in the city, Parliament House, the Town Hall, City Square, the Bourke Street Mall with the Myers and David Jones department stores and the Southbank area are all well worth visiting. As is the Victoria Market in the city, Melbourne Zoo in Parkville, Melbourne Museum and cafes in Carlton and fashion shopping and crowd gazing in Chapel Street, South Yarra.
Out of town try to get to the Dandenong Ranges to see the magnificent Australian bush or the native animals at Healesville Sanctuary and the wineries of the Yarra Valley. Try to include a visit to a beach resort or a drive along the Great Ocean Road. It is well worth it. We can provide great accommodation at a special discounted rate at Portsea on the Mornington Peninsula and at Torquay on the surf coast.
Local annual attractions include the Australian Open Tennis in January, the St. Kilda Festival in February, the Australian Grand Prix in March, Australian Football League games from April to September, horse racing during the Spring Carnival in October and November. December in Melbourne is all about Christmas shopping.
All this is why Middle Park and Melbourne is such a great place to visit.
CAR PARKING AND TRANSPORT
If you are driving free unrestricted car parking is always available right outside the door.
Less than 4 kilometers from the city, Middle Park is well served by Melbourne’s premier tourist tram route the No. 96 Light Rail or the No. 12 Tram. It is only a short walk to the tram stops and they depart roughly every ten minutes. By tram St.Kilda is only about 5 minutes and the city 20 minutes away. Myki public transport cards are provided for your use and convenience. Please just top up any credit used.
