About Andrew Donaldson
Andy and I are dinky di Aussies. We live in Perth, Western Australia and have always loved Tasmania for its rolling hills and green countryside. Such a contrast to our much hotter and often dry landscapes over here in the West. Andy is a recently retired architect and I am a newly retired teacher. We enjoy travelling and have a particular interest in beautiful buildings and interior design. I am also a qualified interior designer and love choosing colours, furniture and accessories to produce the most pleasing décor possible. Prior to retiring we owned a property in France for quite a few years, which was very old in the southern Mediterranean town of Pézenas, right in the heart of the old circular village. We ran this property as short stay accommodation and loved feeling that we were semi residents of the town. It spurred me into improving my school French as well, although I must admit I was never very fluent! This adventure, which proved to be extremely successful, gave us the confidence to more recently purchase our properties in Tasmania and to run them as an equally successful business. It's much easier and quicker to travel backwards and forwards from Perth to Tasmania, than it was to make the long journey over to France on a regular basis. Something we like to do to ensure our properties are carefully maintained to keep them as beautiful as we want them to be for our guests. We have a wonderful management group in Tasmania, with whom we are in constant contact and who take equal pride in presenting our apartments to the highest standard and keeping all the amenities fully supplied and in perfect working condition. When you book your apartment with us, you will be communicating with Andy or me, and we will ensure you have the best possible stay. We are very proud of our apartments and love to read the wonderful reviews and private messages we receive from our guests who often say they have found our apartments exceed their expectation.

Why Andrew Donaldson chose Grindelwald
The apartments stood out to us immediately because of their stunning location, very modern exteriors and generous accommodation. We had been looking at properties all over Tasmania for a couple of years for a place which had the 'Wow' factor. On seeing the real estate advertisement on the Internet for this apartment we flew straight over from Perth to Launceston to see if it was as good as it looked in the advertisement. It was late winter when we arrived and we were instantly hooked, and made our purchase. Why... because the views are to die for from floor to ceiling windows of... beautiful rolling green hills in the distance, a panoramic view of the Tamar River, and vineyards in the foreground. Added to this it is within the famous Tamar River Winery grounds (owned by Brown Brothers) with their Cellar Door only meters away. What was there not to love! The apartment was in excellent condition but in need of a little modernisation and new furnishings. Andy being an architect could see that by renovating the kitchen we would lift the whole standard of the apartment, so plans were put into motion immediately. I had great fun sourcing all the new appliances, furnishings, linens and accessories. We were in our element and everything was achieved very quickly with the help of a local kitchen renovation firm and local suppliers. Walls were repainted, everything was new from beds to kitchen utensils. During this process we lived in the apartment and were enthralled by the spectacular scenery in its ever changing moods throughout the day. Of course we enjoyed exploring the local vineyards and attractions whenever we had a moment as well. So much to see and do, including little visits from the resident kookaburra which became quite friendly. Shops are nearby yet the feeling of being in the countryside among the bush, so high up on the ridge, is a magical experience. We love to stay whenever we can, and we are delighted that our guests do too.

Large apartment with a spectacular view!
We stayed for three nights at Tamar Ridge apartments and found the accommodation clean, spacious and quiet. The couch was too small to be comfortable and the bed was a little hard, but these were minor inconveniences. It was great value for money and a great location.
The apartments are located on the side of the spectacular Tamar Ridge among tall Tasmanian gums. It is on one of the world's most prestigious Wine Routes and is nestled in the grounds of the famous Brown Brothers' Tamar Ridge Winery.
There are many sights to see and the area is renowned for its food, wine and arts festivals. Of particular interest is the MONA FOMA - MOFO festival which is to become a permanent fixture in January.
