About the property

For those who remember 'the way it used to be' this cottage will bring back fond memories of days on the bay. One of the original block houses from the '50's, this cottage features old iron beds with comfortable quilts, a boat-shaped fireplace, a sidebaord full of fiesta ware and a vintage pink tiled bathroom. The pier is just right for fishing and crabbing and kids will enjoy the tree fort across the street.

From this quiet out of the way street you would never guess that Gulf access is just a two minute drive away. The Bon Secour Wildlife preserve access offers free parking and a boardwalk over the snow white dunes. Not as crowded as the beaches up in town this pristine area is great for shelling, surf fishing, walking and sunning.

Golfer's Paradise: Who could ask for more than a beach house and top of the line golf courses! The Peninsula Golf Club is located just four miles East. It features 18 holes, a pro shop, and restaurant. In addition you will find tennis courts and a swim fitness center. If you want to change things up a bit try the 36 holes of Pure Palmer Golf at Craft Farms, Cotton Creek, and Cypress Bend just a 15 minute drive away. Want more? Play Kiva Dunes or the Golf Club of the Wharf; both are just five miles away.

Shopping: Ten miles north of Gulf Shores in Foley, Alabama the Tanger Outlet Center features 120 name brand shopping options for the bargain hunter. Brooks Brothers, Calvin Klein, Osh Kosh, SAS, Gap, Banana Republic, Anne Klein, and more.

Once you are finished there try the numerous antique stores in and around the area. Gulf Shores and Orange Beach have numerous shopping venues for those looking for special items to take home as a reminder of their days by the sea.

Recreation and Special Events: The City of Gulf Shores has a fantastic recreation center with daily, weekly, or monthly rates. It features an indoor temperature controlled swimming pool, basketball courts, fitness room, indoor track, ping pong and pool tables, water aerobics, yoga and other fitness classes. In the winter the city's Special Events Department sponsors an outstanding series of performances. Information can be found at the city website.

History buffs will love historic Ft. Morgan just 11 miles west When you are finished there catch the ferry to Dauphin Island to see its sister Ft. Gaines or visit the Dauphin Island Sea Lab.

Not Much for Money

  • 1 of 5

Upon arriving to the cottage we soon found several things disappointing. The enterior was outdated and lacked upgrades. Cooking was a challenge with a stove that would stop working. The kitchen faucet didn't work properly. It was almost impossible to sit out in the the screened in patio due to the screens were loose and falling off. The mosquitoes were terrible. Watching tv was fine if u don't mind watching with a lizard that lives in the tv cabinet. Some of the blinds didn't work properly and very dusty. Nothing like being on vacation and the property owner shows up and stays for hours. Enough was enough so we left early to head home Definitely would not stay there again!

Owner's Response: Thanks for choosing to stay with us and for your review. We did not know you were having these problems and will certainly check out the issues you mentioned and have them repaired right away. Most of our guests really enjoy this vintage venue and have been more than happy with its amenities. We have a policy of responding to issues within 24 hours of their report and even ask that guests give us a call after arrival to let us know if everything is to their liking and is what they expected. Anytime a guest reports an issue we address it promptly. We especially love getting feedback and suggestions while you are in residence so that we can provide the things you need to make your stay more enjoyable.

Quiet location, easy to get to. Well decorated and clean, screened in porch with a boardwalk leading to the private bay dock. We recommend Lantana for your Gulf Shores getaway experience.

Very nice with amazing view

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here after a last minute change in vacation direction due to the fires in Gatlinburg. We loved the house and the view of the bay. The house was very clean and we had everything we needed for our stay. We will definitely consider this house again for future stays.

Little Piece of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

I give Lantana Cottage TEN stars!! From the moment we pulled off the highway and drove up the little lane with the canopy of trees dripping Spanish moss and pulled into the driveway of Lantana Cottage I was smitten. Then we walked into the house and I "really" fell in love. My sister, brother-in-law and I vacation together and usually go for a beach house or condo but found this little home online and the fact that it is dog friendly...we decided to take a chance. I'm SO glad we did!!! I LOVE everything about this house and the location. It's near the end of a cul de sac and if you like peace and quiet and serenity this is the place for you. The house had everything we needed. We loved the open layout of the house and the furnishings are very welcoming and homey. We did a lot of cooking and every utensil, pots, pans, bowls, everything we needed was there. We spent a lot of time out on the deck and the pier admiring the pelicans, herons, sea gulls and watching for dolphins. One morning we were rewarded with dolphins swimming very close so my sister and I walked down the pier and one of them swam so close to us beside the pier... we were beyond thrilled. My dogs were very happy here also. I liked that they had a yard to run and play and boy did they run with their eyes shining and tails wagging. They must enjoy the fresh sea breeze as much as I do :o) I enjoyed sitting in the swing overlooking the bay listening to the bell hanging from the tree by the swing as it swayed in the sea breeze. I even liked the garage with the washer and dryer and half bath. The owner thoughtfully provided everything from fishing poles, crab traps, laundry detergent, you name it, it was in that garage. The house was very clean, the beds comfy, the couches and chairs comfy, the eclectic furnishings are charming....if I could move in and call this home I would do it in a heartbeat. The beach at Bon Secour is about a mile away and is beautiful but doesn't allow dogs. We found another beach a ways down the road but the flies were so bad we decided we'd rather be back at the cottage on the bay. Our time there flew by in a blink and we were sad to have to leave. We definitely will be back!! I highly recommend Lantana Cottage which was my idea of heaven on earth.

What a great bayside cottage.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed a lovely fall weekend at the cottage. The location is away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy areas (which suited us well) but easily accessible to Bon Secour park and the Fort Morgan. We spent our time at the cabin fishing and crabbing (the crabbing was good, the fishing was ok) and relaxing. We brought our 2 year old and he had a great time playing in the tree fort and going out on the pier to check the crab traps. The screened in porch was great for pinning him in but allowing outside time.

The amenities of the cabin were sufficient. The kitchen had enough to cook with, the beds were comfortable and well stocked with lines, and the cabin was a bit rustic but even more comfortable than it looks in the pictures.

This was a very well maintained property in a great location and I would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a homey place on the bay.

Third amazing stay at the Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This is my third time to stay at the cottage and it was just as wonderful as the previous two. Could not have asked for more perfect weather, the beach was not crowded, the bay was quiet, and the Blue chair was my favorite place to sit, read and relax. The Cottage is cozy and feels like home. It is far enough away from the main strip of Gulf Shores that it isn't noisy but close enough to go and enjoy. Ms. Martha and Ms. Linda always make my stay perfect. I will be back many more times in the future, it is my happy place. I highly recommend the Cottage to anyone wanting to escape, enjoy, and relax.
