About Craig Rudder
We live in Port Douglas. We bought apt 58 to be our winter escape and home away from Melbourne. We love the area so much we bought a house and decided to live here permanently. I'll be happy to answer any of your questions.
Why Craig Rudder chose Port Douglas
Port Douglas is unique holiday destination in Australia and probably in the world. Where is there another place that has a permanent population of only 3500 residents but can offer 82 places to eat. The Port Douglas Reef Club is ideally situated away from the night life of the main street but close to walk to Macrossan St, the Marina and of course the beach.
What makes this Apartment unique
There are some lovely holiday apartments in Port Douglas but none with such a lovely outlook into the canopy of the majestic Australian melaleuca trees where you hear the call of the birds and the murmur of the waves on the beach.

It was my first time using VRBO. I had arrived in Port Douglas unaware that Craig had been attempting to get a hold of me due to an issue that had arisen with the apartment I rented. When I arrived, it was clear that the apartment was in the process of being cleaned due to flooding that had occurred and I was initially dismayed by the sight. When I got a hold of Craig, he had already made arrangements for me to stay at another apartment nearby. As such, despite the weather, I was able to have an excellent family vacation with my daughter and her friend. Thank you Craig for taking care of us.
Resort perks with plenty of space
We had a great stay at Apartment 58 Reef Club. The location is great being easily accessible to town and the beach by foot but also access to the shuttle right outside. The extra space of an apartment made the stay very comfortable as we were not on top of each other like in a hotel room and the kitchen allowed us to really settle in for a few days with everything we needed. Craig the host was very welcoming and provided us with a lot of information to make the most of our time. The apartment/resort had a lovely pool and BBQ area and provided a lovely quiet escape with everything we needed.
Hi Michelle, thank you for this Review. We endeavour for our guests not only to have a comfortable stay but a great holiday.
We booked the unit direct with the owner (Stayz) - the room was beautifully furnished and its location within the resort is ideal (at the top / back so very quiet). Despite not using the main reception to collect keys all of the details on how to access the property / keys were very clear and effective.
Great access to the beach through Tide st from the rear of the property (about 200m) and a short stroll into town for dinner / convenience store and surf club. We probably utilised it more as an apartment than a resort but the price more than reflected this. The pool was ideal when required, it was perfectly heated and ideal for the kids. The steps into the pool were large enough for the youngest child who can't swim to play and move around on safely.
We still utilised the front of the resort for collections by buses / tours as needed so it really was a great mix.
Only rated it a 4/5 for quality because there obviously are some newer and prestigious resorts close by but they they are also in a completely different price bracket to this one and everything is relative.
Looking forward to staying here again.
Thank you for this review. We have recently had a change of managers for the building. At the end of this tourist system there will be substantial renovations and maintenance work undertaken. Several years ago we stayed in the Reef Club and thought it ideally situated and good value. We ended up buying a unit for our winter escape from the cold of Melbourne. The previous managers called it a "resort" which is misleading and I am hoping that the new managers will drop the word.
