we will return love the charm and charachtor very special oppotuninity of this chance to stay at a property of such signifacance it is a credit to the owners to share it
A pleasure to have you stay Phil. It is fantastic to have people who appreciate the old charm of "Cousin Jack's". There is special enjoyment when one discovers how people managed in 1880 period.
It is hard to get the balance of how much to modernize for comfort of guests, and how much to leave as a museum.
The house was quaint, clean and secluded. It was so perfect for our 2 small dogs who had a ball going to the beach. I'm buying some nights for my son and his family for his birthday!
Not far to drive to get there from Adelaide but plenty of off road to try out our 4wd. Thanks, a great break.
So glad the dogs had a good time along with you! You were an excellent guest and we hope you come again.
Disappointed , lack of communication and information.
Cousin Jacks Cottage itself is very charming. My issue is that we weren't told that we had to turn on the electricity at the power box ourselves, walk around the property to find the water meter virtually hidden in a corner and turn that on and also find the gas and turn that on.....no email about this was received by myself so after arriving at the cottage we had to call Darryl (the owner).
Also after speaking with Darryl regarding a later check out time days before staying at the property (which I absolutely appreciated he accepted ), explaining to him I needed a little longer to get organized in the mornings because I am cerebral palsy ......Darryl was great, explaining he understood as he also has mobility issues. Not once while chatting with him did he mention there were 3 large steps in side the cottage which can not be avoided at all. I was so angry and extremely disappointed that nothing was said to me .....it was very challenging and difficult for me to come and go within the cottage. If I was told there were steps when I was chatting to Darryl through email.....I would of still had a few days to find alternative suitable mobility impaired friendly accommodation . I am not impressed with the whole situation, the lack of communication and lack of information.....yet there was no problem taking my money.
When you advertise the cottage, the ad needs to be absolutely transparent on everything.....ie Not suitable for mobility impaired, all utilities to be turned on by guests etc.
Also regarding the blocks of wood under the bed legs.....that set up is so dangerous and I guarantee if it were inspected you would be fined, oc health and safety. I understand the bed legs need to be raised because of the floor but there is a proper way to do it.....you can buy proper bed/chair raisers at any disability shop.
A little underwhelmed.
The house itself is easy to find and close to town, but I don't think we would stay again. On arrival we had to find and turn on the water and gas for the property ourselves and I don't feel the house is in as good condition as the pictures portray.
Turning on the water, gas, and power is standard procedure when owners not in residence.
The Cottage is kept in the original style of 1880's Cornish miners. We have kept the original condition as much as possible, with the necessary modern facilities. Most love the experience of yesteryear!
The photos try to portray the atmosphere and the era.
This little cottage was so relaxing in a very quiet location. Just close enough to the moonta supermarket and a 5 minute drive to the beautiful beaches. The owners have done their best to keep the integrity of a very old miners cottage. A home well over 150 years old would be hard to display without some kind of crack in the wall or renovation needed. But I feel it adds character. And is kept as tidy as it can considering its age. A nicely stocked kitchen with everything we needed including an electric mixer! With beautiful leadlight through out and such a comfortable couch we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Thankyou very much for having us.

Thanks Megan. You were a 5 star guest and your enjoyment was so encouraging. It is always a conflict about how much to modernize and how much to leave it as a museum LOL.
My wife & I like it as a step back in time. So glad you had fun educating your boys! Does us good doesn't it?
Quiet and hassle free
We travel as a work crew and like to do our own cooking. The house is well appointed the kitchen has everything we needed it is clean tidy and easy to get acquainted with. Thank you for your hospitality.
Very glad you enjoyed your stay at our unique cottage.
