The Salty Dog Summer Stay is a spacious, bright, furnished apartment with all the comfort and amenities one may need to enjoy time in our seaside town. Perfectly located on Atlantic Avenue in the Old Garden Beach neighborhood, many of Rockport's shops, restaurants, and attractions are a short walk away. Old Garden Beach is a 5 minute stroll down the lane, the Headlands and Rockport Harbor are a 10 minute walk, and Bearskin Neck is a 13 minute walk.

The Salty Dog apartment encompasses the whole ground floor of our home. My wife, 2 girls, and I live in the other unit on the 2nd and 3rd floors.

The living area is furnished with a comfortable couch, 3 chairs, and a bench. Entertainment includes HD cable TV, DVD, WiFi, bluetooth stereo, board games, and books.

The Salty Dog has two bedrooms. One bedroom has two double beds and the other bedroom has a queen bed. We also provide a twin-sized folding cot.

The apartment has a full sized, eat in kitchen with seating for up 6 people. There is a stove, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, and coffee maker.

Guests can enjoy backyard space that includes a grill and picnic table, and a children’s play set (3 swings, slide, and monkey bars). There is also a front covered patio with rocking chairs.

There is off-street parking for 2 cars in our driveway.

We provide a complimentary resident beach pass that allows guests to park in the “resident only” parking lot at the popular Long Beach and Cape Hedge Beach.

About Justin Mierz

I’m dedicated to providing families and friends a comfortable, casual, friendly stay at our vacation rentals. I specialize in convenience, personalized service, and love and knowledge of our home, Rockport, Massachusetts. I welcome those wanting to vacation short or long term and take pride in the accommodations I offer.

I live with my wife, Marcie, and two daughters, Ava Mae (9 years old) and Sadie (6 years old) on Atlantic Avenue in Rockport. I spend most of my time operating two year-round vacation rentals in Rockport and raising two active girls. I appreciate being able to work at home so I, along with Marcie, can spend valuable quality time with our daughters and participate in their school, dance, and sports activities. Marcie also is a technical project manager in the field of software engineering for the NASDAQ OMX group.

I worked for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health in Boston for 13 years as an Environmental Analyst before resigning in 2013. I have a degree from East Carolina University in Environmental Health/Industrial Hygiene and a Master of Public Health from the University of Massachusetts. Before the state health department, I worked for the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston.

I drive a 1987 Volvo 240 to get me around town and dock a Boston Whaler in the harbor. I enjoy lobstering and sharing the catch since I dislike the taste. I love the thrill of catching a bluefish and can be found most late summer mornings on the water trying to catch the fierce fish.

My favorite food is pizza and I appreciate a good pie. We are fortunate in Rockport and Gloucester to have excellent pizza shops. Friday night is pizza night in the Mierz household. I will happily recommend places for guests to go! We also have great seafood restaurants in Rockport and Gloucester. I enjoy sharing my thoughts with guests, if wanted, about places guests may want to check out.

Why Justin Mierz chose Rockport

My great grandparents bought the house in the 1940s, and my step father and aunt grew up here. In 2005, Marcie and I were able to purchase the property from the family. We slowly made major renovations to restore and preserve the house's natural character. We take great pride in their home and are fortunate to be the third generation to raise their family in such a special place.

What makes this apartment unique

Location. We are minutes from Old Garden Beach, Bearskin Neck, Headlands, Rockport Harbor, Shalin Liu Performance Center, and downtown's shops, galleries, and restaurants.

I stayed at this house with a few friends for a recent wedding. We had a wonderful time and the house was perfect for us. Justin, the owner is very friendly and was super helpful throughout the whole renting processes. The house itself was very clean, big enough to fit a pretty large party, and very welcoming. It was an extremely hot weekend (high 90's the whole time) and the AC's kept us nice and cool throughout our visit. The back yard was very big and a great place to play catch or grill. The ocean was a 5 minute walk away and was a great pre-wedding activity for us! I highly recommend a stay here...we are planning to do so again next summer!

Lovely apartment in a perfect location. Even a winter stay was great! Justin is very accommodating, just a wonderful host. The apartment was nice and clean - which is huge with me - and did not disappoint. I would highly recommend staying here.

Very nice location with great accommodations!

The Salty Dog was the perfect rental for our group. It is set in on a quiet road with a short walk right to the ocean with great views. Everything we needed was a short drive away from the location, which was a major plus. Justin was a nice easy going guy and he has the rental set up with all you would need if it were your own home. Very inviting and pleasant. I would highly recommend anyone looking to stay in the area to highly consider staying at the Salty Dog!!
