Woodcutter's cottage - come to enjoy the bush, peace & quiet

ABOUT THE COTTAGE
This renovated timber cottage is an original mill cottage from the 1920's situated in the Dwellingup Heritage Precinct. It now has a modern kitchen, in addition to the original wood stove/oven, and a modern bathroom/laundry.

COVID Enhanced Cleaning Practises are in place. We are following the recommended disinfecting guidelines from the Health Department and have educated our cleaner in these practises.

KITCHEN: There is a 6 seater dining table and chairs in the kitchen area. The kitchen is extremely well equipped including dishwasher, microwave, electric kettle, toaster, sandwich maker, Nepresso coffeee pod machine and a great selection of cooking utensils. The pantry contains bare essentials including tea, coffee, sugar, salt and pepper and oil. To minimize food contamination and being observant of Health Standards, we provide some individual sachets of jam, and peanut butter, honey and a tube of vegemite. Please use with discretion and supply cannot be guaranteed if items are used before being able to replenish.

BATHROOM / LAUNDRY: The large modern bathroom also houses the washing machine & dryer. Washing powder is provided. There is a 2nd toilet separate to the main bathroom.

LOUNGE: A wood- fired heater in the lounge area makes winter very cozy in addition to reverse cycle air conditioning for either cooling or heating. Seating comprises a 3 - 4 seater lounge and 2 single lounge chairs. Extra chairs from the kitchen or bedroom can be used if required. A TV and DVD player are available with a range of DVD's. There are some games available for use also.

BEDROOMS: Two bedrooms have queen size beds and the 3rd bedroom has 2 single beds. Bedroom 3 has its own cooling airconditioning unit and an oil heater for winter. The others have ducted reverse cycle airconditioning and ceiling fans and all bedroom windows are screened to allow opening without risk of flies or mosquitoes. Each QS room has a tall boy chest of drawers and back bedroom has a blanket storage box.

BED LINEN, TOWELS and TEATOWELS are provided at no extra charge

FRONT VERANDAH: From the north facing front verandah, you can sit and look across to a small area of virgin bush and watch and listen to the many birds (including splendid fairy wrens, robins, honeyeaters, kookaburras) which visit the garden and surrounding area. It is the perfect spot to unwind and relax. Our 2 birdbaths in the front garden attract many birds who love to drink and bathe in the morning and later afternoon.

The property is fully enclosed and the back yard is fairly large, ideal for young children to run around in. The wooden shed in the backyard is available for storing bikes if required and is kept locked. A key for the padlock is on the key ring which you will have access to.

The cottage is 200 metres from the State forest where there are many walking trails and access to mountain bike riding tracks. It is approx. 5 mins walk to the centre of town.

Our cottage is only 10 minutes drive from Nanga Bush Camp at Lane Poole Reserve, which is popular for weddings. The Baden Powell area within Lane Poole Reserve has a terrific swimming area, also very suitable for kayaking /canoeing.

ABOUT THE TOWN
Dwellingup is a thriving timber mill town with a great community spirit, located approximately 75 mins from Perth city (~100km south east of Perth) and attracts many visitors interested in mountain bike riding, hiking and canoeing, as well as those interested in the art /craft scene. The Bibbulmum and Munda Biddi trails pass through Dwellingup. Lane Poole Reserve and the Murray River are only 8km away (10 minute drive from cottage) and is a popular swimming, paddling and canoeing area, with easy access into the water.

Dwellingup is now the home to many world class mountain bike trails, to suit all abilities. The Murry River trails were built in 2020, with more trails added since then around town.
Trees Adventures is also located in Lane Poole Reserve for those interested in ziplining.

There are also many designated 4x4 tracks nearby for the 4WD enthusiast.

Dwellingup has a range of cafes to suit all tastes, a restaurant and the Dwellingup Hotel (which is open every evening for meals and do takeaway pizzas).

Dwellingup has become an artisans destination with Lost Eden Creative Gallery, and several art and craft centres, silversmith and a gift shop. The local IGA has a good range of essential items and bake very nice bread rolls daily.

Forest Discovery Centre also has products from local artisans available for sale and there is a very interesting educational display and several short walking trails through the bush from the centre. Many varieties of wildflowers can be seen near the trails during the wildflower season.

Bike and canoe/kayak hire is available in town from Dwellingup Adventures.

There are 2 local orchards (Vergones' and Caraholly Orchard) which have fruit and vegetables for sale over weekends all year round, but Vergones' is also open during the week in summer.

The Hotham Valley Steam Train runs from Dwellingup all year round on Sundays. The actual steam train runs only during the cooler months from May til October and a diesel engine runs the remainder of the year. Extra services run during school holidays.

The Wine Tree Cidery is located 1 km from town, and is definitely worth a visit for tastings of their cider, ginger beer and lemonade (in season), &/or lunch (open on weekends only). Bookings essential.

a nice little getaway
A cozy, neat cottage, bringing back memories of the olden days. Everything needed was there and more. The upkeep of the garden was outstanding in the area. We enjoyed sitting on the front veranda. Very enjoyable.

Quiet relaxing
Had a great stay we enjoyed the quiet still amazed by the night sky .....we don't see clear sky's like this at home ...the town or is it a village not sure ...it had everything we could need and we made use of the community bar /restaurant ...it was a short walk down to from the property. No WiFi so a walk to the information center was not a problem. We spent a lot of time sitting on the veranda.

About the host

Host profile image
We are a retired professional couple who love the outdoors and keeping active. We are also fairly new grandparents with 2 cherished grandchildren. We both grew up in the southwest of WA and although we really love the ocean and water based activities close to where we live in Perth, we also fairly recently started mountain bike riding for pleasure.

Our enjoyment of the bush and mountain bike riding enticed us to purchase this lovely timber cottage in Dwellingup.

We decided to share our cottage so that others can take advantage of the bush and all that Dwellingup offers and we hope that you will enjoy it as much as we do. We love spending time in Dwellingup, making the most of the bush, birdlife, local flora and the peace and tranquilty. We love the fact that Dwellingup is a community minded town, with many regular events and activities.

What makes this property unique

Although the cottage was built in the 1920's, the inside has been renovated, so there is a modern kitchen (along with the old wood stove) and bathroom. It is set up to provide comfort and all essential items, plus a few. We have set it up for us as our home away from home.
Having 2 toilets is always a benefit when a number of guests are staying.

Dwellingup can be cold in winter and hot in summer. This will not be a problem in our cottage as we have reverse cycle airconditioning in the main part of the cottage and split system cooling A/C and oil heater in the back bedroom. There is also a heater in the bathroom. The wood fired heater provides a lovely ambiance in winter.

The outlook from our verandah is very relaxing and peaceful. A great place to unwind and de-stress.
For bird lovers, in our garden you will have the opportunity to see a variety of birds including splendid and variegated fairy wrens, willy wag tails, fan tails, many honey eater varieties, red breasted and white breasted robins to name a few. Many of these love our birdbaths in the front garden.

Our cottage is located very close to the Dwellingup State Forest and numerous walking and mountain bike riding trails.
Easy walking distance (5 minutes) into the centre of town and all amenities and a 10 minute drive to Lane Poole Reserve & Nanga (which is popular for weddings).
