This stunning Riverside Holiday Home is located on the eastern banks of the beautiful River Shannon in the scenic town of Ballina, County Tipperary & looks across the river to historic Killaloe in County Clare and the mountains beyond making it the perfect vacation getaway location. Our beautiful comfortable modern architecturally designed home is finished to a five star level & is available for rental throughout the year. It will appeal to couples and families seeking peace, tranquility, comfort set in beautiful safe location. It has been designed in an open plan style. We have used high ceilings, large skylights & lots of glass to allow in as much light as possible and bring the magnificent river & mountain views right into the home. It is fitted throughout with all the modern conveniences you could want including satellite TV and also has hi-speed wireless Internet for those who feel the need to keep in touch with the modern world. The house sleeps up to 8 adults in comfort and but can sleep up to 10 if needed. We have cot/crib for babies as well as a high chair. The house is naturally warm and has gas central heating for those chilly winter mornings. The rate we quote includes all utilities, linens and taxes, we do not charge extra.

The mature secure gardens feature a Liscannor stone patio outside the kitchen and living rooms allowing the large doors to be opened out on sunny days bringing the gardens and views into the home. A stone path makes its ways through the grass to a large wooden deck looking down onto the river below where a large BBQ allows for outdoor cooking & dinning. The garden and decking have outdoor lighting and an outdoor power supply.

Local amenities and activities include shops, supermarkets, restaurants, pubs, river cruising, fishing, sailing, canoing, walking, hiking, cycling, boat hire, golfing and much more. The purpose built tourist office is located on the historic 13 arch bridge that's links Ballina & Killaloe. It houses the tourist office, local library and the newly developed Brian Ború Centre. Every Sunday morning a local farmers market offering all sorts of local produce from food to gifts takes place 'between the waters' opposite the tourist office and should not be missed. Ballina has many good restaurants and pubs including the exceptional 'Cherrytree restaurant'. Killaloe has a network of charming narrow streets, flanked by old shops & houses, that climb up the steep hillside & look down over the 13th century cathedral. Water sports are the key to the popularity of Ballina & Killaloe. Boats of all kinds from rowing boats to cabin cruisers are available for hire and water-skiing has long been popular. Short tours of the River Shannon and Lough Derg are available from the Ballina side aboard the 50-seater passenger boat Spirit of Killaloe. During July the Brian Boru Festival brings traditional music and a variety of entertainment, inside and outside, to the towns for a week. Towards the end of July the Killaloe International Music Festival centered on the historic cathedral, concentrates on the classics and is growing in reputation around the world. Every September, Killaloe is the venue for the European Pike Angling Championships. The historic towns of Killaloe & Ballina offer an exceptionally beautiful riverside setting and access to Ireland’s greatest waterway. The River Shannon & Erne system is a popular cruising, boating & angling destination extending from Donegal in the northwest of the country, with canal extensions to Galway in the west, Dublin in the east and Waterford in the south all the way to Limerick where it enters the Atlantic Ocean at Foynes where a historic seaplane museum tells the story of transatlantic air travel and the invention of Irish coffee.

Our property is located just 30 minutes from Shannon airport, 20 minutes from Limerick, 1 hour from Galway, 1 hour 45 minutes from Dublin Airport, it is an ideal base for exploring Ireland and it's Celtic heritage.

About David Gaughan

This our personal holiday home. We built this property in 2003 to a very high standard and visit it regularly from our main base in Dublin whenever time allows. It is our escape from city life. We feel that the home's unique location and design offer something special and different to the discerning traveller. We have rented property all over the world and know what we like. We have put our experiences into the property, such as the unique touches you find in a home as opposed to your standard generic holiday rental and we do not charge extra for utilities and linen, it's all included in your quote.

We found it so easy to book this property. We arrived late in the evening and the directions given took us right to the door. Immediately felt at home, there was games and TV and videos for the kids plus a games room full of toys for the younger ones (4 Kids!). The house was Fabulous, spacious and welcoming. Great sized bedrooms with quality linens and loads of bathrooms. I loved the beautiful fully functioning kitchen and we relaxed outside and watched the sun set on the deck over a glass of wine.

The following days were spent visiting all the wonderful sights and attractions and we thought this property was such a perfect base from which to set off and return to. We had lunch most days on the road, but it was great to arrive home in the evening and prepare dinner as the kids played outside and my older teenagers walked to the local village for ice-cream. All very safe. Loved to sit and watch the boats move up and down the Shannon from the fabulous deck. Worst part was having to leave. We will be back…

The south west facing garden is ideal for families with young children. It has a BBQ area on waterside decking, Liscannor stone patio and large grass area and is completely enclosed and secure, whilst still affording amazing views over the river towards the setting sun on the mountains across in County Clare. Please note the marina behind the property is privately owned and access is restricted to boat owners.

An AMAZING property in an AMAZING location

From the start of our inquiry to checking out and beyond, the Owner David and Property Manager Eamon could not have been more helpful. When we arrived Eamon was on site to give us the house keys and provide us with all local information required. It took me to concentrate on what he was saying as the views at the back of the house were breathtakingly beautiful!!

The house was stunning. The quality of furnishings was of a very high standard, the beds and bedding so comfortable it was hard to get up in the morning. En suite accommodation and ample towels was a great comfort.

We were a party of 7 adults and the large house accommodated us very easily. We so enjoyed the big dining room table where we ate hearty Irish food and enjoyed the craic. The back garden was beautiful even covered in snow and sitting inside with the log fire going it was a site to behold. the washing machine and tumble dryer was also very handy, as was bringing my mother who couldn't help washing and cooking for us all.

Ballina is a lovely little town as is Killaloe across the River Shannon and is very well placed to drive from Shannon airport. it has very quaint Irish pubs, restaurants and shops, all making you feel so welcome. The local hotel allowed us to print of our boarding passes which was really appreciated and the local Priest gave a very interesting mass, I so loved how he included the children in the service.

We were there with my parents to celebrate my fathers 80th birthday and visited Terryglass to see our great grand-parents grave, home (or what is left of the 18th Century cottage) village and Irish relatives - A very moving experience.

We would love to return again to this property in the summer months, so David, watch out for our next booking!!!!!

Great House and Good Location

This house was perfect for our needs during the first half of our Ireland trip. It’s a very nice place, and the view from the back patio is great. It has a full kitchen so you can cook your own meals if you want to, but it’s also very close to several good dining options. For us it was a good base for heading in all directions over several days to see the sights that we wanted to see in the Southern part of Ireland. The check in and check out processes were very easy, And the person that manages the property was easily reachable to answer any questions that we had.

Perfect family house!

My extended family (6 adults and two toddlers) stayed in this cozy home for three nights and I wish we could have stayed longer! It had everything we needed- perfect kitchen, big dining table, plenty of space, parking for two cars in the driveway, travel crib for my son, beautiful view, a few toys, and warm fire. Definitely recommend!

Beautiful River View

We had a great four day stay at this well-equipped river side home. The views from each level were beautiful to wake up to. The house was light, bright, clean, and nicely renovated.

We were a party of six and enjoyed the open living space and the extra den. We were able to spread out, and were impressed with the DVD selection and video games. We appreciated the en-suite baths for each upstairs bedroom and the many modern amenities. We were there over our US Thanksgiving holiday and still managed to cook a nice holiday dinner and sit around the large dining room table. This home is even better than the photos!

Great family home

Our family stayed here for four nights while we toured Ireland. The house was perfect for our needs and we enjoyed the back garden. Plenty of restaurants and grocery stores very close by. We were greeted when we arrived and check in was easy. We had a walk through which explained how everything worked. I would highly recommend this location for touring the western areas of Ireland. Easy to reach from the airport. We had rental cars. Thanks for a great family celebration.

Lovely Holiday

We rented Derg House for a month. The location was perfect and allowed for near and far exploration. The view from the deck was gorgeous. The house is spacious, yet cozy. When our children joined us for week four there was plenty of room. All the amenities are there including wifi and washer/dryer. The owners provide plenty of useful information about the house and the area. One small criticism. We cooked most nights and the kitchen is not as well equipped as I would like. In all other respects I would highly recommend Derg House.

The beautifully located self catering vacation holiday home rental is on the Ballina (Tipperary) side of the river Shannon where it joins beautiful Lough Derg, one of the largest river & lake waterways in northern Europe with over 350 miles of lakes & rivers you can cruise on. The historic bridge joins Ballina with it twin heritage town of Killaloe (Clare) on the opposite side of this mighty river Shannon. This house is an ideal base to explore the local area & the rest of Ireland from. The local area has many high quality restaurants & public houses (pub) to greet you after a hard days play on the water, hiking & climbing in the near by mountains that flank the twin towns from both sides, biking the many byways, fishing the river or golfing on the near by greens. Brian Boro's Fort, Dingle, Killarney, King John's Castle, Bunratty Castle, the Ring of Kerry, the Burren, Connameara, Ennis, Lahinch, Liscannor, Limerick, Galway are all near by. Cork and Dublin are a short car journey away.
