SHIAWA-SEA, a classic, family-owned cottage, with cedar shake-look siding and a sand-colored, standing-seam, metal roof, is 2 blocks from the Atlantic Ocean in a quiet, coastal neighborhood. Your stay @ Shiawa-Sea will be the perfect get-away for couples traveling together and small families (including your pet). A lower level (LL) bedroom/bath unit with a full kitchen, family room and home office, is available for an additional fee.

You first enter the expansive, cobalt blue, carpeted screened porch, through a hand-crafted, mahogany screen door with South Carolina's state flag logo (palmetto/moon), to relax in the Pawleys Island hammock, enjoy appetizers/beverages in the original Bentwood-style furniture dining area and begin your stay on the Island. Cottage-style features include ceiling fans throughout.

You then step into the entry room, through the ocean blue, hardwood door, with glass block side windows. Another cottage-style feature is stucco plaster walls throughout.

The bedrooms, with queen-size beds and ocean blue or nautical quilts, have glass block-look awning and leaded glass sliding windows, which open to capture the ocean roar and breeze, and cool the casual living space. The Cottage has central heat and air conditioning for the non-optimal seasons.

The open family-kitchen, has a 50 inch flat screen, HD TV mounted above the gas log fireplace. All floors are maple hardwood with chevron, fish, seashell, sailboat or daisy accent rugs. The original kitchen cabinets (circa 1947) are white-painted solid wood, the countertops are classic white Formica. An ocean blue, custom painted, French door refrigerator with bottom-mount freezer and a cobalt blue, hand-pottered, whale- accented ceramic tile back splash, will enhance your culinary experience. A gas grill, located on the walkway to the hot tub, is available for outdoor cooking. An umbrella table and chairs, on the front deck, are available for al fresco dining.

The hot tub, which is maintained at 102 degrees, is perfect for enjoying the afternoon sun and watching the sunset. The outdoor shower room near the hot tub, has hot and cold water, allowing for year-round use. You have use of the year-round maintained, unheated pool, which is on our adjacent, coastal property.

South Carolina's moderate climate allows for year-round outdoor activities with beach days extending into December. The ocean temperature moderates in mid-April with 'good ole' summertime to follow. Enjoy the lazy days of summer on 'Main Street', our wide, sandy beach, just a 2 block walk away. In late Fall/Holiday-time/Winter, you will find the sitting area, near the gas log fireplace, to be a perfect spot to enjoy hot & cold beverages after a brisk walk/run on the beach. Also, the outdoor firepit awaits you to roast our succulent, salty local oysters.

We know you will enjoy walks on the beach to the world-famous Windjammer, for seafood, burgers, tropical drinks and live music. Also, you can take a short walk to Breach Inlet for dolphin/sunset-watching and dining at the Boathouse. We are confident you will enjoy your stay with us, where we have worked, raised children, enjoyed coastal living and our Island lifestyle for 37 (and counting!) years.

Quaint Cottage Close to the Beach

My family of four very much enjoyed our stay at Shiawa-Sea. It was just the right size for us, very clean, full of character, and well taken care of. We did a lot of our living on the large screened front porch, and especially enjoyed the hammock. The neighborhood was quiet. The beach was a quick two-block walk away, and so much less crowded than down by the pier. It was great to have the outdoor shower and the outdoor hose to clean off ourselves and our beach gear before heading back indoors. We were so happy to find a place we could take our dog, and that said, there was no animal odor at all in the house. It was a perfect home away from home and we would happily stay here again. Every question I had was answered quickly by the owner. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Great location! Not toddler proof! No pool

The place is in an ideal location 2 blocks from the beach & the hot tub was wonderful! Although the decor is really cute and beachy it's FULL of breakable nick knacks everywhere which was not ideal with small children - especially toddlers - or really any kids under 3. The photos show a pool - but it only has a hot tub - or a pool to use that's off location. We did have a wonderful time and would go back when our kids are older as to not break the nick knacks!! :)

Owner's Response: We prefer the term home decor.... We understand, toddler-proofing and returning items to their original location, may be necessary. If an item is broken, please advise us. A deduction from your security deposit is unlikely. Yes, the unheated pool/pool area for Guest-use, is on our adjacent property. Thank you so much!

Wonderful place!

We have stayed here during the month of November for the last 5 years and have enjoyed the house very much. It meets all our needs and is close to every thing a person may want. Hopefully we will continue renting each year.

Just right!

We stayed at this property for three nights. It was just what we needed. The house what perfect for two couples. We enjoyed having the outdoor shower and hot tub. The location was also very nice, very close to the beach. The owner was very responsive to our requests, even brought us a wine opener right away! The covered porch was also a nice highlight. Highly recommend this property for a relaxing stay.

Perfect location, every amenity, so close to the beach!

We loved our stay at this clean, inviting beautiful cottage! Full of character and charm, this comfortable home offers everything you could want for a relaxing stay at the beach. Close to Charleston, shopping and restaurants, yet situated in a beautiful neighborhood filled with large trees and gorgeous homes...all options are at your convenience. I would definitely stay here again! Owners couldn't be nicer or more responsive. Thanks for a wonderful getaway!
