Digs Lodgings is owned and operated by the Cohen family. We have always loved discovering the great outdoors and the many adventures on offer, as well as spending quality time together as a family. After many years of competing in Ironman and triathlon, Larry discovered the exciting world of mountain biking. He enjoyed it so much, he got the rest of the family involved and now we are all hooked.
In early 2017 Larry went on a mates MTB trip to Derby, TAS to ride Blue Tier and Blue Derby. He fell in love with the amazing trails and quaint laid-back town. Not long thereafter the Cohen’s decided to buy an old miners cottage and, after a healthy renovation, Derby Digs Cottage was born. The name “Digs” means lodgings or living quarters, as well as a play on the fact that Derby was an old mining town.
In mid-2018 we completed the building of a second dwelling on Derby Digs Land called “Derby Digs Barn”. Built in the style of an American Quaker barn, it comfortably sleeps 8 and also enjoy stunning views of the MTB tracks and Ringarooma River.
Before the paint was dry on Derby Digs Cottage the MTB fraternity announced the establishment of Maydena Mountain Bike Park in Maydena, Tasmania. Things quickly progressed and what started out as a plan for a cottage in Derby soon became a vision to provide short term rentals to cater to Mountain Bikers and their families – and the brand “Digs Lodgings” was established.
The Digs Lodgings property portfolio also includes Schoolmasters Digs in Maydena. As the name suggests Schoolmasters which used to the Schoolmasters residence, of the primary school which is now the home of the Maydena Bike Park. It sleeps 12 comfortably in 4 bedrooms and is located adjacent to the base for the Maydena MTB Park. Maydena Digs Cottage is a very cozy and quaint Cottage just 300m from the Maydena Bike Park.
