About the property

Lakefront Mtn Cabin, 4 Bedrooms + 2 Convertible beds, 2.5+ Baths (Sleeps 8-12)

Waters Edge is a luxurious, new (finished July '07) custom built log cabin on the shore of beautiful, sparkling Watauga Lake. With 106 miles of shoreline and fabulous coves and islands to explore, use the canoe and kayak provided or bring your own boat and keep it at your very own private dock that comes with the cabin. Rental boats are also available at Fish Springs Marina, with a $10.00 discount for guests of Waters Edge.

If you have to stay in touch with the office, don't fret. Hook up to the wireless network high speed internet, plus make unlimited long distance calls within the continental U.S.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES GALORE!!!: There are plenty of activities close by including horseback riding, biking, mountain biking, white water rafting, snow skiing and tubing, sledding, ice skating, hiking (including the Appalachian Trail just 15 minutes away), fishing, golfing, shopping/strolling in Boone/Blowing Rock, or sightseeing and other activities at many outdoor parks anywhere from 10 minutes to 45-60 minutes away. Grandfather Mountain, Chimney Rock and the Blue Ridge Parkway are a few of the more well known destinations, but there are plenty more to be discovered. Bring your bikes and ride on Sink Valley Road right in front of Waters Edge, or transport them to biking trails in the area, including one near the Mast General Store outside of Boone, North Carolina and the Virginia Creeper Trail out of Abbingdon, Virginia to the north. And if none of that interests you, just sit back on one of the four decks and take in the beautiful scenery of the lake and mountains. Or turn on your favorite music on the outside speakers.

NOT SO OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES: For those who are not into outdoor activities, there are plenty of other activities. The Butler Museum tells the story of Butler, The Town that Wouldn't Drown! The town used to be at what is now the bottom of Watauga Lake. Old structures, signs and roads are explored by avid scuba divers. In Boone, NC near Appalachian State University and in Blowing Rock, NC, there are plenty of shops with arts, pottery, clothing and collectibles. There are also quite a few excellent restaurants. For bigger city shoppers, Johnson City, TN is not far away. Before you get to Johnson City is Elizabethton which has its own set of smaller town shops, restaurants and even an oldies car show downtown on the weekend nights in the warmer months and a drive-in movie theater!

YOUR VACATION ESCAPE: Escape to Waters Edge for a true retreat in the mountains of Tennessee and nearby North Carolina! The lake and national forest are at your doorstep. This lake home is truly waterfront with its own dock in the backyard. Bring your own boat or rent one nearby. Keep it at the dock which is just steps from the cabin down a winding sidewalk. Join our group of guests who say Waters Edge is the best cabin on Watauga Lake, and keep comin' back!

Fall colors abound around Waters Edge and in the vicinity. Panoramic views are found in any direction you drive.

During the winter, there are 4 ski slopes within a 40 to 50-minute drive. Enjoy the challenge and bustle of the slopes during the day, then escape to your own private mountain lake home. You will easily be able to unwind and relax in front of the home theater system, stone fireplace, Jacuzzi, or fire ring by the lake.

The calendar fills up quickly and well in advance. Make your reservation today and come escape and relax at WATERS EDGE!!!

About Scott Russell

My wife and I are environmental consultants in Florida who love to escape to the Appalachian mountains. Good quality lake water is important to us in our profession and our free time. Those are prime reasons why we chose to build on the shores of Watauga Lake - the mountains (elevation of 2000 feet at our home) and absolutely great water quality. We enjoy it all at Waters Edge - all outdoor activities, relaxing in the cabin, cooking with family and friends, and enjoying the mountains. When we leave Waters Edge, we are saddened but already planning our next trip back.

We have made Waters Edge a truly premier cabin for us and our guests. We have carefully planned and selected everything you will need to enjoy your stay. We have it cleaned and maintained meticulously to keep it in that premier shape. We are sure you will notice it and it will add to your enjoyment.

Scott Russell purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Scott Russell chose Butler

We chose Watauga Lake out of twelve lakes we were looking at in the southeast because of its elevation, its great water quality, and lack of crowding. Sixty percent of the watershed is occupied by the Cherokee National Forest and will never be developed. There are no weekend or summertime boat jams on Watauga. We also wanted mountains and views of them from the cabin. On Watauga we got it all! It is the perfect vacation lake home for year round enjoyment. There are indoor and outdoor activities at the home or close by during all four seasons. Our home is in the country, but convenient to the cities. Once you experience our lake home, no others will do!

What makes this cabin unique

Guests will truly enjoy being directly on the lake with their own private yard and boat dock with a swim ladder. They will also enjoy the fact that it is an easy drive in and out - no steep, white knuckle roads! The views of the lake and mountains are outstanding. Often at night, you will hear nothing - that is NOTHING!!! Peaceful. Or crank up the stereo inside and out, grill out, toast marshmallows at the fire ring by the dock and life is good! There are too many unique features to mention all of them - the fully equipped gourmet kitchen, home theater, Jacuzzi, fireplace, outdoor shower, canoe, kayak, pool table, game table, 4 decks and a balcony ....... And all in excellent, well-maintained condition. Come see why many of our guests have said it is the nicest cabin on Watauga Lake!

To clarify, the iron and board are in the Laundry Room, not the Kitchen. There is a fully equipped gourmet kitchen on the Main Level with everything we could think of that you will need. There is also a Kitchenette/Wet Bar on the Lower Level with a microwave oven, additional coffee maker and full refrigerator. Both refrigerators have ice makers and the one on the Main Level also dispenses cool water. On the Main Level is a stone fireplace with gas logs, widescreen TV with home theater system, CD/DVD players, stereo tuner, and controls for outdoor speakers on 3 of the 4 decks. There is also an LCD TV and CD/DVD player on the Lower Level in the Family Room. The pool and game tables are also here. Life vests, canoe, and kayak with paddles are provided. You have your own private dock in your backyard with a swim ladder and plenty of room to tie up the canoe, kayak, your own boat, or a rental boat if you decide to get one. Next to the dock is a fire ring and bench.

Tranquility in Tennessee

  • 5 of 5

Our family just enjoyed a wonderful week at Water's Edge. The home is well designed for a family vacation with three living areas, a large well-equipped kitchen and dining area and ample porches. We put our boat in at the nearby RV park and kept it docked at the house all week. The lake is truly beautiful. My husband, brother-in-law and nephew fished the lake while my sister-in-law and I walked our dogs on the rural roads and the nearby Virginia Creeper Trail. We toured Boone and Blowing Rock and caught a movie in Johnson City. The house is conveniently located so all were within about a 20-30 minute drive. Or you could spend the whole time relaxing at the house. Couldn't have asked for a more relaxing week! The owners are great to deal with; very responsive.

Owner's Response: We really appreciate this feedback! We work very hard to keep our cabin in excellent, luxurious condition for our guests. It speaks well of a few of the activities at our home, on the lake, and in the surrounding area. There are even more activities on the lake and within 30 to 60 minutes. We do try our best to accommodate our guests to insure they thoroughly enjoy their time at Waters Edge!

Spacious lakefront property on quiet end of the lake

  • 5 of 5

Our annual family vacation was lots of fun. We shared the house with my sister’s family. We kayaked, swam, and hiked several days. Deck access from bedrooms and living areas with great views from every window. We shared cooking responsibilities in the large kitchen, and slept well on comfortable beds every night. It was a wonderful week away from it all, and I highly recommend this house.

Great family get away

  • 5 of 5

We were very fortunate to book this home for our family to spend time together over the holidays. We were near enough to Beech and Sugar for some snow skiing for some of our grandchildren to learn.

The home is in great condition and the three floors made it great for a group of 12 to spread out. The owner was responsive as was the local support person. I would love to book it again during motorcycle and Kayak season. Matt B Tallahassee, Florida

Wonderful Week At a Beautiful Lake

  • 5 of 5

We just got home after spending a great week at Water's Edge. First let me say that you will not find a more picturesque lake no matter where you go. The mountain views are spectacular and, after renting a pontoon boat, the sunset cruises were outstanding. The water is very clean and clear. My only complaint was that makes for tough fishing and I didn't catch anything. However, it is everything you would want for swimming, tubing and water sports.

The cabin is a log cabin with knotty pine ceilings and interior walls. It is well furnished and the kitchen is well stocked with most utensils that you would need. There are refrigerators on the main floor and in the lower floor game room that both have ice makers.

The great room on the main floor, the game room on the second floor and the decks on both floors provided plenty of room for the 6 adults and 4 ten to fourteen year old kids to congregate and enjoy each others company.

We ran into two small problems during the week and Scott, the owner, was very responsive and had people come over in a timely manner to correct the problems to our satisfaction. Scott was very easy to work with and very helpful. You can tell that he and his wife are very proud of their beautiful cabin and want their guests to feel the same.

The lake is rather remote so don't expect great restaurants or crazy nightlife but if you are looking to get away and relax and do some hikes along the many nearby mountain trails then you can't go wrong with the beautiful Water's Edge on gorgeous Watauga Lake.

Owner's Response: We were very pleased to have this group as our guests and love to hear feed back like this! On the issue of restaurants, there are actually several fantastic restaurants within 10 to 30 minutes away. There is an authentic Italian restaurant 10 minutes away, with the owner/chef direct from Italy - La Cucina - with food to die for! There is an authentic Thai restaurant - Monsoons - even closer and just as good, with the owner/chef directly from Thailand. Then there is Captains Table, 15 minutes away with excellent seafood cuisine and views of the lake and mountains that remind me of the Grand Titons in Wyoming. Finally, 30 minutes away, is an excellent German restaurant Freiberg's - in Johnson City, 20 minutes away, there is a fantastic continental restaurant - Subas- with food and desserts that are out of this world, and Shirleys for fabulous country cooking and entertainment 7 - 8 minutes away. In Boone, Blowing Rock, Elizabethton, and Johnson City, about 30 to 40 minutes away, there are even more restaurants with excellent food!

Wonderful house on the lake!

  • 5 of 5

The house was absolutely spectacular. Plenty of room and everyone had their own sleeping space. We appreciate being able to bring our dog, she just loved swimming in the lake. We loved having access to a canoe and kayak. The detailed instructions you had for everything in the house was so great to have. The house had everything we needed! Thanks again for a wonderful stay.

Fabulous vacation at Water's Edge!

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of staying in the lovely Water’s Edge cabin on our recent trip to Tennessee. The “cabin” was absolutely beautiful! It is located in a very peaceful and quiet cove on the lake. It was a perfect spot to ‘explore’ the surrounding area—either by canoe or by car—or just sit and relax and enjoy the beautiful view of the lake and the surrounding countryside!

The cabin was tastefully furnished—high quality, yet very comfortable and homey. The kitchen (and the whole cabin, for that matter!) was equipped with everything you could possibly need or want! Many of the basic necessities were thoughtfully stocked for vacationer’s use and convenience. No detail was overlooked! The owners were very helpful and prompt in providing feedback to any questions we had, as well as suggestions for site-seeing, dining, or things to do in the area. Very clear and detailed instructions were provided on how to operate anything within the home, which made everything so user-friendly!

We truly enjoyed our stay in the beautiful Water’s Edge home—we didn’t want to leave! We hope to have the pleasure of returning again soon! Special Thank you to Scott and Michele for allowing us to share your wonderful home!

(BTW…We even had a resident Crested Kingfisher that would entertain us daily, by showing his hunting and diving expertise, right at the edge of the dock! )
