Guestbook comments from the manager

This was the most perfect place for our family to stay and prepare for our son's wedding. We had a wonderful time and we were completely comfortable in your home. From my 87 year old mother taking over the "butler's quarters" - Mike & I having the bedroom next to her (just so I could keep an ear open for her during the night); to our 3 grandchildren taking over the upper bedroom and turning it into a dormitory; to our son/spouse, daughter/spouse and my sister each having the privacy of their own room.

Beautiful Grand Home in Prime Duluth Neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

Booked this for a Mother/Daughter weekend for a group of sisters and sisters-in-law and our daughters - 13 of us altogether. There was plenty of room - most people even had their own separate sleeping spot due to the extra futons and trundle beds in the home. The home is well appointed with nice linens and everything you need for cooking and eating together. There are many living areas - living room, sunroom, dining room, basement recreation room so that people could gather in small groups when they wanted to or all gather together. One thing to be aware of is how to find the home - it is on a short dead end so that when you turn into the street, there are only 2 driveways and the driveway to the right is for Hawthorne Manor. A few of our party went right past the turn because it does not look like a street. This makes it even more private! This is a lovingly cared for, elegant home - so you will feel that when you stay here. And as an original Duluthian who grew up in one of these and loves these homes, my hope is you will feel the same and treat it accordingly if you stay here! :) Two points to be aware of if you are not a reader of fine print: 1) the stairs up to the 3rd level are steep so I would only put folks with good legs and ability to get up those stairs, 2) be prepared to launder your towels on the last day of your stay or to be charged. I did not think that was any issue and was prepared for it, so no problem for us whatsoever. I also want to thank the owner for the prompt return of my deposit and working with me on this stay - she is very responsive!

Beautiful well appointed home

  • 5 of 5

Hawthorne Manor is a beautiful home and well supplied with everything we needed. Totally enjoyed hikiing on trails behind the home several times daily. We are a group of women with small children and had plenty of room in the home. There were some rooms we didn't even use.

The kiddos had plenty of space to explore. We would definately come back again. Thank you letting us stay in your home

Incredible!

  • 5 of 5

This house was amazing! It was enormous. There were so many rooms we had to wander the place for half an hour to find them all. We kept discovering new nooks throughout the weekend. "Look! There's a bathroom down here!" It was nuts.

The house itself is just cool. It's historic and there's reading you can do in the guest book on the original owners complete with photos. Because the house is so old, there's all kinds of little historic features like a laundry shoot and original hardwood floors etc.

We had a group of fourteen for a graduation weekend. The house was perfect for entertaining. The kitchen had everything we needed. Serving dishes, two crock pots, wine glasses. There's two refrigerators in the house so we had plenty of room for the platters of sandwich meat and cheese.

Our favorite place was the sun room. Beautiful and such a great spot to sit and chat by the fire. There's also a piano.

The owner was extremely welcoming and was a pleasure to work with.

Absolutely plan to do the creek walk. It was gorgeous.

We will definitely stay here again. Do not spend money on a hotel. You'll pay the same for this house and you'll get so much more value and be much more comfortable.

This house was amazing!

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have asked for a better house and location. It was close to everything we did. The rooms were spacious. We could all have a space to retreat to. We also enjoyed the walking path. A quiet neighborhood with access to a ton of nature. We look forward to our next visit!
