We Enjoy Sharing Our Refuge, our Vacation Home - Our Cabin in the Wild.

Though we love our life in the city, the therapeutic quality of nature is fact, and the soulful benefits are immense. Henry David Thoreau went to the woods because he “wished to live deliberately” and “to suck out all the marrow of life.” Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote that the outdoors brings eternal youth. We find that this place eludes the tic-toc of time and replenishes our blood with life. May you find your moment of tranquility among the ripples of the river, as you explore this land of the amazing forest.

West Virginia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) completed the official trout stockings of the Williams River and the Cranberry River for 2017!

2017 is here, and we are making our personal plans for staying at the cabin in the spring, summer, and fall. Looking forward to the spring wild flowers and the rushing waters, lush green mountain summer days as time seems to stop, and vibrant autumn color on the hills. We want to hike further, picnic twice as often, and catch more trout if that is possible. Please choose your time slots early as our little cabin is becoming a little more well known. Our many blessings and thanks to all those last year that celebrated their anniversaries at our cabin. We look forward to hearing from you.

Dona and David

Designed by an architect and built by the owners in 2009. This stunning mountain cabin is a luxurious and complete cozy get-away. It is perfect for a couple, but will also please a small outdoor-loving, active family that ventures out into the surrounding Monongahela National Forest to picnic, bike, hike, fish, hunt, kayak, photograph and explore. Take all of your toys.

The Williams River is across the field in front of the cabin-150' away. The Cranberry River is short drive over Red Oak mountain into its watershed - 9 miles. The Williams River is more than 25 mile long.

The screened-in front porch with the rocking chairs is a great place to watch the sunrise with your favorite cup of coffee or tea, and the one you love. Or, let your love one sleep in and you enjoy the glory of the dawn, as you refresh your thoughts and mind.

Frequently, there are deer sharing the morning with you as they cross the field. We love to grill many of our meals on the gas grill. The kitchen has plenty of pots, pans, dishes, cork screw, skewers, some spices, etc. Sheets and towels are provided. There is Dishwasher soap.

Guestbook comments from the owner

David and Dona,

We wanted to thank you again for letting us stay at your cabin. We had a wonderful trip and the weather was terrific. We arrived at your cabin Friday araound 4:00pm. We ended up doing some sightseeing on the way taking advantage of the sunny day on Friday. Your cabin is fantastic. The living room floor with the stone fireplace is beautiful. The deer head makes it a perfect cabin in the woods. Although we sort of expected a fish or two on the wall instead of a deer. The kitchen had everything we needed for preparing our meals. The bathroom tile looks great around the tub. You guys did a wonderful job throuoghout the whole place. We took Saturday and went to the Cranberry campgrounds and explored a little, then we went to the falls of hills creek and did the trails there, which were very nice trails and the river was nice to walk beside with the waterfalls. We then ventured down to the New River Gorge Bridge. That is an impressive structure. we went through the state park buildiing and watched the movie about the bridge and was taught a brief history of how it was made. We ended the evening with dinner on the grill and your neighbor had put on a spotlight and apparently put food on the ground because when we went in the hot tub about 8:00 we sat and watched deer come from the hills and go and eat whatever he threw around his yard. It was very nice to see them and then to top it off it was a perfectly clear night to see an incredible amount of stars that we never get to see from our hometown. sunday we got up and explored behind your cabin up and down the Williams river for a few hours before we left around noon. we stopped at a few more spots on the way home to take a few more pics since it was another sunny, blue sky day. It was a great weekend, Thanks again.

Great cabin

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our stay at your cabin. We have stayed at several mountain cabins and your hot tub and grill were by far the best of any cabin that we have stayed at. The location was beautiful, and the cabin was very well appointed and well cared for. We brought our mountain bikes and cross county skis and were able to use both. We biked up the Williams River road up to the Scenic Highway. The last four miles of the road were snow covered, but bikable. On Friday we drove up to the scenic highway and skied a few miles on one of the fire roads. On the way home on Sunday we stopped at the Falls of Hills Creek and the Cranberry Glades, both were spectacular with 4-6 of snow. Thanks for a great weekend getaway!

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying at our cabin. It was our joy to have you as guests in our home in the ancient Appalachians. You are the wholehearted vibrant enthusiasts that the mountains beckon while the season is still raw. They awaken from winter slumber to enjoy the grandeur of the relationship and your genteel company. We appreciate you.

This place was so lovely. Excellent for a romantic getaway in the heart of nature.

  • 5 of 5

When I said to my husband, I want to go where it’s quiet, no city lights, no people around... he found this gem. The stars and the fireflies danced all night and we enjoyed so much peace and quiet. Right on the edge of a national forest, a perfect quiet retreat. No cell service. And that was a blessing. Off the grid with luxury. Did not want to come back to the real world.

Lovely cottage. Very nice, quiet location. Close to river, hiking/biking trails. Very relaxing.

  • 5 of 5

Cottage was very clean, compact with everything we needed. Screened in porch was lovely, hot tub on the deck along with grill and rope lighting for a perfect atmosphere! Great place to get away to the quiet. No TV but a nice selection of movies. Beds were very comfortable. Spiral staircase was a great space saver! Bathroom was nice with a jaccuzi tub. Fireplace and AC kept it very comfy inside. Kitchen had everything we needed. Nice selection of cooking pans, utensils and storage containers for leftovers. Had a Dishwasher, too. Washer and Dryer were a nice bonus. Rustic charm, tastefully decorated around a woodsy, fishing theme. Short walk to the river. Nice large mowed lawn to play outdoor games, toss ball, throw frizbee. Enjoyed seeing deer, squirrels and listening to the many birds! Very relaxing and peaceful setting!

Great Anniversary Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the cabin was wonderful! The cabin is beautiful, we loved everything about it. When we got there, there was about 3 inches of snow and windy, didn't get a chance to use the hot tub. We did get a chance to use the grill and enjoyed a great steak and shrimp dinner. The cabin had everything you could possibly ask for. We took a hike and checked out the beautiful river. The mountains were beautiful! You have to be careful on the back roads and down the river road, they go from being good and clear to bad very quick! We were luck enough to get to see a bald eagle fly down the river very close to us. In the evening at the cabin, there were deer that came out and were playing, running all around the field. The last night of our stay, the skys cleared and we got to see the spectacular stars. Thankyou David and Dona for the stay at your beautiful cabin, we hope to be able to repeat our stay in the summer or fall.

Cozy, comfortable, worth it.

  • 4 of 5

We came for a long weekend and completely fell in love with the area! We spent most of our days hiking trails in the Cranberry Wilderness Area and was just blown away by the beauty. The cabin was a short jaunt to the area and the Williams River Road was a nice relaxing drive to and from every day. Staying in your cabin gave us a chance to relax after a day of hiking, the hot tub was awesome and the grill came in very handy. Our last day was rained out but we didn't mind just gave us a chance to catch up on movies and rest our sore bones. This was an excellent place to escape the craziness of city life and really connect with people and nature. We will definitely try to find the time to come back someday.

Our lovely little cabin is remotely located alongside the Williams River well inside the Monongahela National Forest. The HomeAway Map does not accurately show the location as the cabin is about 6 miles further into the forest. MapQuest will display the correct location. Williams River Road follows the Williams River for about 28 miles. The Google Property Marker on the Google Map for this listing is short of the actual location by about 5 or 6 miles. The cabin is 2.8 miles on up river from what locals refer to as the 'Low Water Bridge', which is a Forest Route that crosses the Williams River and goes up over Red Oak Mountain and down to the Cranberry River. This is a good marker. The cabin is 18 miles from the Highlands Scenic Highway (State Route 150). The Highlands Sceninc Highway and the Williams River Road intersect 18 miles up-river above the cabin.

It is a beautiful drive along the Williams anytime during the year. The forest has lush summer greens, vibrant color in Autumn, great trout fishing and excellent hunting all around our cabin, our rivers, and our mountains - All to share with you.
