Why Randall Phillips chose Kona Coast

We fell in love with the house and property the moment we saw it 7 years ago. Yes, the view of Kona and the coastline is the best that we saw in our two years of house hunting. But what struck us was the sense of serenity and calm this property and location afforded us. We immediately felt that we were 'home'. Part of the appeal to us also was the location right in the midst of the Kona Coffee Belt and the fact that the property had been a working coffee estate.

What makes this cottage unique

All of the pieces by themselves are incredible: the incredible view from every window, the infinity edge solar heated salt water pool, the hot tub, the holistic fitness center, a completely green solar electric powered house, the two acres in award winning coffee, the sights and sounds of the country, the fresh air. Put them all together and you have a true luxury estate to relax in - when you are not too busy exploring all that the Big Island has to offer!

Our location right in the midst of the Kona Coffee Belt and the fact that the property is a working coffee farm sets us apart from many other vacation rentals. We have just added a roasting shack and now can roast coffee in-house in a custom made artisanal drum coffee roaster. We can offer to our guests our own private label 100% Kona Estate Certified Coffee grown and roasted right here on the property. We supply the finest coffee making equipment in the unit to compliment our award winning coffee.

Perfect tranquil vacation spot

  • 5 of 5

We loved Kope Cottage! The cottage is stocked with all sorts of little things that make it perfect - kitchen seasonings, beach towels, beach chairs, a cooler for day trips, a grill on the lanai. It's even more spacious than the pictures make it appear. Waking up and having coffee overlooking the ocean every day was heaven. Having a fridge, 2-burner cooktop, and toaster oven provided us with more than enough to cook every breakfast, most lunches, and a couple dinners. The farm is amazing - check out the fresh fruit trees and ask Randy and Atsumi about the coffee operation! The coffee is fantastic, as well. The location is definitely out of town - it's about 15-20 minutes of driving to get to most shops and restaurants - but that's exactly what we were looking for. No tourists, no loud nightlife, just peace and quiet and stars at night. We can't wait to make a return visit!

Perfect Home Base

  • 5 of 5

Charming cottage, beautiful views, kind and gracious hosts, and Kona coffee grown right in front of you! This was exactly what we were looking for! Convenient for sightseeing and trips to town, yet a relaxing place to watch the sunset, recharge, and enjoy morning coffee on the lanai before our next day's adventure. Thoughtful touches, such as a small cooler, snorkeling gear, beach chairs and towels, and even the offer to shop for a few groceries for a possible late arrival, are just a few of the touches that made us feel welcome. Wish we could have stayed longer!

As advertised, a very charming spot

  • 5 of 5

Kope Cottage is lovely. we didn't use the pool, if someone else is staying at Vista Cottage, it feels intrusive because you're right in front of their windows. not a big deal as we were out and about most of the day. sitting on the lanai for breakfast, watching the many varieties of birds visiting the papaya trees and the hypnotic view of the ocean was a delight. thoughtful details like butter in the fridge, an initial carafe of coffee and apple bananas, thank you Atsumi and Randy. we brought coffee home, to watch it being roasted and bagged was another bonus. a walk down and up the 21% grade road by the property was cardio for the day. well done!

Sunshine, privacy, tropical vegetation and gracious hosts.

  • 5 of 5

This property is well cared for and nicely landscaped. We stayed in Kope cottage at one end of property which has a private lanai and affords a beautiful view of the Kona coastline. The pool was a perfect alternative to the ocean on some days. Randy and Atsumi were available if we had any questions and will share their coffee knowledge if you are interested. This location is somewhat cooler and less populated than the Kona coast, although you can drive down to any location easily. The charming small village of Holualoha was nearby with a good restaurant and art galleries and shops. We would definitely consider returning.

Home away from home - except that it is in paradise!

  • 5 of 5

All that we expected and more...Kope Cottage is a lovely space for two. It has all the necessities. Randy and Atsumi are wonderful hosts. We arrived late so they made sure that we had things waiting in the fridge for breakfast. The guide to the Island they produced was invaluable. As first time visitors to Kona, it gave us insights to places that are not in most guidebooks. of all...we had the opportunity to drink some of the best coffee we have tasted...and it is grown on the property! We also were able to get a tutorial on the roasting process that Randy and Atsumi use for their beans. For anyone who enjoys exceptional coffee and appreciates all that goes into growing, harvesting and roasting the beans, a stay at Kona Estates is a must. Yes, we will return. Mahalo and Aloha

Very clean simple property with gorgeous view

  • 4 of 5

This is a very simple and well kept little cottage. Everything you need for a nice quiet rest is there. The coffee made by the owners is the best I have tasted on the island and their coffee machine and accompanying grinder in the cottage is perfectly set up to make excellent brew. In fact, all the machines work well, from the washer/dryer to the microwave. We enjoyed sitting on the little patio watching the sun go down over the harbor everyday and sleeping well in the very cool air of the higher elevation at night. Very comfortable.
