Wildwood Farm near Goose Rocks Beach

Welcome to Wildwood Farm! This is a wonderful, rustic retreat for families and those curious folks or individuals who are seeking an outdoor nature experience. This property is known in Kennebunkport as Wildwood Farm on Arundel Road (formerly Lester Wildes Road). This is an eleven acre parcel with a Greek revival farmhouse - part of the oldest dairy farm in Kennebunkport. We have a flock of chickens and an excellent mouser - Agamenticus. Our home is an elegant and rustic farmhouse that sleeps 6 (4 double bedrooms with full sized beds). There is a fire pit, gourmet kitchen, heirloom tomatoes, fresh eggs, bikes, two ponds and a beautiful walk to conservation trails. The house is full of antiques worn by time and original contemporary art, a wood stove and fireplace are at your disposal. We can recommend the best restaurants, day trips, beaches, wine shops, antique shopping, outlets, spa and bike trail. Also, lobster/crab/champagne can be delivered and cooked for an additional fee.

If you are looking for an idiosyncratic experience of Kennebunkport we have suggestions for that too. We are locals and can also recommend great fishing, boating, swimming, sunbathing, and beaches for children. There are craft fairs, a trolley museum, farmers market, local artists and artisans to visit and new friends to be made.

Extra services like cooking, cleaning etc. will be quoted per request. It's our goal to make your stay terrific.

Check in is 5 - 9pm. Check out is promptly at 11:00 a.m.

This antique home has plaster walls, hardwood floors and a new kitchen. Please, no shoes, smoking or pets (including lap/purse dogs). Children of all ages are always welcome. Please no extra people or events.

What To Do:

Compost. Pail is on the counter and it can be emptied behind the garden in the compost pile. Compost is ANY organic matter (seafood, shells, bones, leftover food of any sort).

Returnables. Returnables should be bagged separately and can go outside by the black building.

Kitchen - There are products under the sink to clean the stove, tile, and marble counter. Please do not leave this til the end of the week for the cleaning staff. Dish towels and silverware are in the dining room. Please don’t leave the cleaning staff your dirty dishes or a grease-covered stove.

Floors - There is a brand new vacuum cleaner, broom, and dust pan. Please exercise these. The floors are easily ruined by sand, dirt, grass, etc.

Eating - Please feed your children at the table or outside on the picnic tables.

Bathrooms - All wet towels should go on the clothes line - not on furniture. Please use the outdoor shower to rinse off beach sand and dirt before going in the house.

Laundry - Spills, stains, dirty laundry can be taken care of by you. All products are under the sink. If you spill things on the bedding, please spot treat and clean it up.

If you need cleaning assistance during your stay please Let us know and we’ll arrange to have someone come in during your stay to clean at an additional charge.

Feel free to feed the chickens but if you feed them from the house they will poop on the steps. This can be remedied with the hose outside.

Closing Windows and Turning Lights off at night = NO MOSQUITOS!

White clothing in the woods (socks, anything) will guarantee ticks. Ticks like grass that is over 8 inches tall or overhanging foliage.

Beatiful farmhouse was the perfect retreat for our family-Highly recommend!

  • 5 of 5

If your family lives a hectic life this farmhouse is the perfect retreat. We spent a week here in August 2016 and were thrilled the minute we drove up the driveway. Before we even went inside the house, we peeked in on the chickens we quickly nicknamed Ryan Lochte and Simone Biles (clearly, it was Olympics time). They provided delicious eggs and endless entertainment for all of us.

The house is even prettier than the pictures. It is beautifully maintained, freshly painted and allows in a ton of sunlight. With the windows and doors open the breeze was always refreshing and we were comfortable. (Fans in the upstairs bedrooms were a nice bonus and we never missed our home A/C.) We were thrilled with how well stocked the house is... every bedroom has plenty of blankets and pillows, with extra sheets. There are towels for the bathrooms. And the kitchen has every implement you need if you cook. Bonus: lots of little pantry staples that make vacationing in a home so much easier... no need for buying oil or sugar or flour at the store. (We rent a home in another state and we have to bring/buy everything I've mentioned... it is a huge help to have all of this there, and in great working shape.)

The home sits on a stunning piece of property... the pictures don't do it justice. We loved sitting around the fire pit and just relaxing-- we felt no rush to go out because being at home was lovely. A sweet, outdoor kitty became a part of the family (in spite of my allergy). There is a short bike ride to a conservation area that has easy hiking trails (not challenging for real hikers, but great for small kids or a nice nature walk). Goose Rocks beach is a 10 minute drive and it is stunning. When the tide is out it is great for walking or even riding bikes on the beach. The center of Kennebunkport is also about a 10 minute drive with cute shops and restaurants.

Wildwood farm is a great central location... this was a first family trip to Maine and we easily visited Portland, Ogunquit (a must), and Freeport.

I had a few questions about the area/home while we were visiting and emails/texts to the owner were quickly returned. We had a few nice text chats! I don't know if we will be able to get back to Maine anytime soon but if we do we will absolutely stay here again. Even though we generally love staying at the beach, it was so nice to have a "country" home . I highly recommend if you have kids of any age, or are traveling with older relatives who can do stairs.

Unacceptable behavior of the property owner

  • 1 of 5

The main “highlight” of our stay was the “hospitality” demonstrated by the owner of the house.

The check-out time was 11am and we vacated the house timely. We took all our things outside to load into our cars. At about 11:30am, when we were ready to drive away, the owner called me on the phone screaming profanities “You people are terrible, you cannot be on my property anymore. You need to pack your .....and get the ...... (4 letter word) out of there. I’m paying my cleaning crew by the hour”. There was no cleaning crew on the grounds at the time of her call. We were not preventing anyone from entering the grounds.

Below are just some of the additional details that contributed to our dissatisfaction and frustration.

1. The contract said that the check-in time was at 4pm. 3 days prior to arrival, the owner emailed that check-in time is actually at 5pm. This was extremely inconvenient for us, since we had a function to attend in town and this messed up our plans.

2. A week prior to arriving, we emailed the owner regarding the number of bicycles. She indicated that there were 2 adult bicycles. So, we did not take adult bikes, and only took kids’ bikes. When we arrived there was only one bicycle. The owner indicated that 3 days ago someone took the bicycle and never returned it. So, if we needed a bicycle, we should rent one from the store in town. The rent was ~$20/half a day. This was an expense that we were not counting on and it could have been prevented, had the owner told us ahead of time of this issue.

3. When we arrived at the property in the evening, it was very cold in the house. The house is old, and the bedroom window frames have large gaps. The heat was not working, and the caretaker did not want to turn the heat on for us. After several phone calls to the owner, the heat was turned on for us.

4. The dishwasher machine is old and leaking. We were told to either do the dishes by hand or constantly wipe the floor to make sure it’s not ruined.

5. There are notes throughout the house with absolutely ridiculous rules, including “you should feed your children only in the designated areas”, “do not leave any dishes in the sink”, etc. The owner was emailing us every other day reminding us of the rules. At some point I thought there are cameras throughout the house.

6. The washer had mold in it. It was really disgusting, so I ended up handwashing all our clothes, which was not something I envisioned I would have to do on my vacation.

Amazing farm house in beautiful Kennebunkport

  • 5 of 5

This house has something special you don't find often. The light, the atmosphere together with the farm-y feeling made this house a perfect spot for our relaxing, family vacation with our three kids (incl our 3 months old baby boy!). Everything is arranged for in the house. The location near the beach, Kennebunk and Kennebunkport is perfect as well.

A wonderful family home, filled with charm

  • 5 of 5

For anyone who loves to wake up and walk outside to check whether there are fresh eggs for breakfast, and who appreciates charm in a home, in which every room is decorated with an eye for style and attention to comfort, this is a wonderful retreat. We thoroughly enjoyed our week on Wildwood Farm. We made the most of our days, exploring places nearby (from the Farmers Market in Kennebunk to Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunkport) and farther away (Portland, Portsmouth where we went to a musical in Prescott Park (Arts Festival), Glen Ellis Falls and Mount Washington which were perhaps a bit too ambitious given the distance)... And at the end of each day, we returned to the perfect home base. We made wonderful dinners (and late lunches and breakfasts) in the very well stocked kitchen (excellent pans and utensils). On the odd evening we enjoyed a family (Netflix) movie but primarily we just took the time to breathe in the great atmosphere of the house. There is a very relaxed garden, with a picnic table for family dinners and easy chairs out back; we sadly did not spend as much time there as we had hoped to in the evenings (chased away by mosquitos)! Overall - Wildwood Farm is a real gem.

The PERFECT vacation home!!

  • 5 of 5

We could not have been more pleased with this beautiful home and property!! My husband and I stayed with our two little boys (2.5 and 9 months) and it worked out so well. They loved playing on the lawn, picking apples off the trees, running after the chickens, and the box of toys that the owner had so thoughtfully left as well. While we didn't get to meet Denise, she was so wonderful to go out of her way to find baby items that we needed and had them at the house when we arrived. The kitchen was fully stocked, in the true sense of the word, complete with cast iron skillets, Le Creuset Dutch ovens, a Viking range, plenty of kitchen tools, even almost every baking pan you could think of, and all of your essential spices, oils, etc. All of the beautiful windows let in so much natural light so it's a pleasure to be indoors and outdoors! My husband was a big fan of the outdoor fire pit :). And I couldn't forget to mention the spectacular eggs and heirloom tomatoes! We did not want to leave!! As my 2.5 year old put it "I like this house mommy!"

One thing to consider if you have littles is that because it is an older home you can hear everything through the walls between rooms, which made for more waking that would have been ideal, but everything else about it totally made up for that!

You will love this place! It was honestly one of the most peaceful places I've ever been and we made so many wonderful memories. Hopefully we can return someday! Thank you for sharing your home Denise :)!

Bucolic Maine vacation

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Wildwood farm during the last week of August with my husband, our three little boys, my parents and my grandma. It was our last summer hurrah and we could not have imagined a more perfect spot to spend that last week at.

As we arrived the owner came to greet us and handed us some fresh heirloom tomatoes from the garden - which were enjoyed tremendously later that day. Both the house and the grounds are beautiful, well maintained and addressed the needs of every family member. The boys were able to run outside, play badminton and chase the chickens (whose eggs we were welcomed to eat and so we did very happily). My parents and us enjoyed going into town or just relaxing in or around the house with the book and my grandmother found the whole place to be like a fairy land. I could write a lot more praising this property and its tasteful owners, but I will stop here and hope you decide to go and try it out for yourselves.
