Photos and Description of this Mahaffey holiday cabin

Bedroom 1, Bathroom 1, Sleeps 6

The cabin is nestled in a small peaceful community of vacation cabins located in a mature growth forest along the scenic West Branch of the Susquehanna river. You must cross a circa 1873 covered bridge to get to the cabin. The cabin is just 20-30 feet from the river which affords many recreational activities such as tubing, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, or just sitting in a folding chair in the river enjoying the babbling water. There is a screened in porch riverside with a covered deck porch cabin side. Gas grill, fire pit, picnic table, lawn chairs are all available for your use. The cabin inside includes four rooms (about 1000 sq ft), namely a fully equipped kitchen, full bathroom, large front room with satellite TV,DVD, WiFi, home phone (814-277-6149)and fireplace, and large bedroom which sleeps up to 6 comfortably. The cabin is accented with rustic barn wood, has hardwood floors, and has been modernized for your enjoyment. Although the cabin has a modern feel you will be away from the rat race as cell phone coverage is limited.

We are a couple nearing retirement who enjoy the simple pleasures of life. Although many people feel that country life can be boring we truly enjoy it and know there are many from the city that want to escape to a simpler life even if just for a short time.

Why Karen Howard chose Pennsylvania

We have enjoyed living in the region of central Pennsylvania known as the PA Wilds for most of our lives and would like to share the beauty and serenity of the area with others. There is just nothing like a peaceful rustic cabin nestled in the forest next to a scenic river to give a person the sense that life can be enjoyed apart from the rat race.

The cabin is right next to a scenic river, it is in a mature hardwoods forest, area is very quiet and peaceful whether you sit by the flowing river or warming campfire, circa 1873 McGees Mills Covered Bridge must be crossed to get to cabin, screened in porch riverside is delightful,

A super cozy cottage with relaxation inducing surroundings

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had a two night stay at Olde Owls Nest early this October for a little break from work. This was perfect. We enjoyed the peaceful porches, the chairs overlooking the babbling riffles of the river, the firepit in the evening and the gas fireplace that kept the cottage toasty warm during our stay.

The second night a screech owl came by for a while and demonstrated why this place is the Olde Owls Nest. He gave us a half hour concert while we cooked hot dogs over the fire. What could be better.

The cottage is well maintained, clean and fully equipped for a comfortable visit.

Thanks for sharing your house with us.

Owner's Response: We are glad you enjoyed your stay at the Olde Owls Nest. You are absolutely right about the relaxing environment that is afforded by a babbling river in a beautiful mature forest enhanced by a campfire. You are the first ones that we know of to have been entertained by an actual owl at the Olde Owls Nest. Thanks for the kind review.

We had a restful and relaxing long weekend. The cabin was well appointed and immaculate. The location allows short drives to nice towns for PA sightseeing. Thank you for excellent hospitality.

Loved it. We are in the shade and the river outside. Love that we can get to our church camp in a few minutes. This was our 3 year there.

Great cabin for a family getaway

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at this cabin for a week and we enjoyed it very much. The cabin was very clean and it was just feet away from the river where we went fishing and swimming. We would definitely recommend this place to other people and would stay here again.

Perfect Quiet Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved the cabin! We went for our honeymoon and had a wonderful time. It was quiet, peaceful, and even better than we'd hoped it would be! If you want a relaxing get away, this is it! We talk often of our stay there and how great the cabin was!

Property was clean and well kept. All the amenities worked well. The screened in porch was a great place to sit and listen to the river. The outdoor grill and fire ring were nice for cooking and relaxing outside Can't wait to come back!
