Nestled in the quite fishing town of Hau’ula, this 1 bedroom is the perfect getaway for a couple. This newly remodeled rental, with it’s own private yard and beach has everything you need. It’s a 5 minute drive to the Polynesian Culture center and a 15 minute drive to the heart of North Shore where the big waves are. But in front our our place is all reef where you can snorkel right outside the door. This is where the locals come for the weekend to get away from it all.
This is the side of the island for sunrises. Chances are you can take a beach walk in the morning and only see a soul or two.
We are local kamaaina. We are not investors from outside the islands. We can give you lots of local tips and help you plan a wonderful vacation. Find out where the best beaches are, spectacular hiking trails to waterfalls, local art and crafts shows, nearest farmer's market to buy fresh fruits and vegetables, the best restaurants where locals eat.
There’s lots of local farms nearby selling fresh organic fruits and vegetables, Tiki carvers on the road selling their craft and a world renowned golf course (Turtle Bay Resort) only minutes away.
Masa manages a popular restaurant in town.

The space was adequate for the two of us but its actually looks smaller than the pictures convey. Although the hosts and property manager were aware of our arrival date, it was disappointing to walk into the muggy space and to plug in and turn on all appliances (refrigerator, tv and air conditioner). A nice welcome touch would have been to have these appliances turned on already (not the television).
Although there was a property manager that you can contact, we were not able to reach him via cell phone. We did not realize until towards the end of our stay that he actually resided in the front house. We had to contact the owner via email and because of her job, responses took a day to be answered. There was an ant problem along the window sill and kitchen sink area. The window sill problem was addressed a day later after I notified the owner and I didn't even bother reporting the kitchen sink problem as it would take yet another day to be addressed. The two bowls that were provided; one had a crack in it and I cut my finger on it. It would have been appreciated to have adequate supplies for the two of us instead of "just enough". We needed access to the washer and dryer (which we were informed was available to us) but the door was locked and we had to wait for the property manager to be contacted to open the door. A day later the door was open and we were able to do one load. When we went to do another load the next night, there was laundry in the wash and dryer (which was already done but had not been removed) and to be respectful, we did not want to touch someone else's laundry.
The last time we needed to use the laundry facilities, the front entrance gate was locked and we were not able to get into the yard to access the laundry facilities. When we tried the property manager, he answered and was not pleased that he was being troubled. Sadly my understanding of a property manager who states that he is kama'aina (local) did not display the aloha spirit we were looking for. Apologies if our menial requests put you out.
The best thing going for this place is the backyard view, but there is no access to the beach from there. There is access to the waters for snorkeling (and yes there were honu (turtles) in the area which was a nice touch, and even though you have that small backyard to sit and and lounge, the access to the waters is shared by other properties. We wanted to LOVE this place but it fell short
We had a great stay! The first day was a little more "country" than we expected with some ants and a cockroach, but when we contacted the property manager, he came right over with spray. He explained that since a hurricane had just passed by the night before, nature was going crazy and he assured us it wasn't normal. We had no issues the rest of the stay and appreciated his responsiveness. The location is great, and made it easy for us to enjoy the island from a different point of view than our previous week stay in Waikiki. The owner made some great food recommendations, definitely pay attention when she sends them over. We loved the outdoor shower and just looking out over the ocean. Although it's not beachfront, there are lots of little beaches minutes away down the street. There were plenty of beach towels which was great, but I didn't see the other things like kayaks that were supposedly available for our use. It was fine though, we wouldn't have had time anyway, and the surf was kicked up from the storm. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend staying here for sure.
We had an awesome time at the beach house! The property was great and very cozy. We would highly recommend staying here.
My fiancé and I loved our stay here. We will definitely be coming back. It was clean and comfortable. There is lots of places near by to explore. We love to cook so it was nice to stay in, enjoy the beach, and have a kitchen with all the utensils already. Overall good experience!
LOVED this little place! Conveniently located. Quiet. Loved the view! I would go back here anytime!
My wife and I traveled to Oahu for a relative's wedding, and we were so lucky that we found this hidden gem. After an extra long day of travel, we arrived to the house in the late afternoon. As soon as we walked in the door and set down our bags my wife disappeared. I quickly found her standing out on the terraced rock wall watching the waves crash and feeling the cool ocean breeze on her face. It was love at first sight for us both!
The house is perfectly set up for a couple who plan to be on the move. The place was extremely clean and updated on the inside, but we ended up spending the majority of our free time at the house out back sitting in the hammock or watching the waves crash from the sand level. And don't even get me started on our love of the outdoor shower. I don't think we ever even turned on the shower inside, because who would pass up the chance to watch the ocean and enjoy the warm sun from a private outdoor shower?
Aside from the wedding, we went on quite a few excursions (ziplining, hiking, swimming, exploring, sampling the local food) and our little house was the perfect place to come back to. The kitchenette has everything a traveler could want (sink, fridge, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, utensils, etc.) and there is a barbecue too. We made good use of our kitchenette turning our leftover lunches and dinners into new breakfast inventions. (My wife is early to rise and insists on eating first thing, even if on vacation and the sun is not yet up.)
We cannot wait to return to this wonderful property and enjoy our beautiful, private slice of ocean once again.
To address the complaints of other reviewers, the house is not actually beach front. It is ocean front though and the backyard terraces down to the ocean. Up top you have the backyard with grass, private outdoor shower, hammock and lounge chairs, then you share the next level down (sand area) with the bungalow next door. There are more lounge chairs down there (and occasionally some crabs sunning). Then there are more steps down to the rocky coastline. We spent time on all levels. Another complaint was that you have to walk around the building to access the back yard. It is seriously 10 feet from the door to the back yard, and the path is clear and wide. No problem for us! Keep in mind, little eccentricities are part of a house's character. Instead of complaining about them, embrace them! Go with the flow, you are on vacation and the ocean is RIGHT THERE!!!
