3 Bed Cottage In Coja Close To Amenities, Quiet Area
- english, portuguese
About Jane Gill
I moved to Portugal 10 years ago where I met my partner who quickly taught me how to speak Portuguese. I love the area around Arganil and Coja which is why I live here and why I am sure holiday makers will feel the same.
Jane Gill purchased this House in 2007
Why Jane Gill chose Arganil
The unique charm of a country cottage on the edge of a pretty market town was always going to be a favourite property for holiday makers and this has proved to be the case over the last 4 years with many repeat visits by people from all over the world.
What makes this House unique
The house is in an excellent position for exploring the beautiful surrounding countryside. Closer to home the river beach is just 200ms where you can while away the hours swimming or hire a canoe for messing about on the river!

Characterful? Or just old and in need of modernisation?
To each their own opinion..... for me it was the latter. Very dark and musty in some parts of the house and very uncomfortable beds. In its favour, it’s very close to the local river beach.
Most of the guests staying at the house this year have said how much they liked the house and how they appreciate that it has been kept in the old Portuguese style. The kitchen is in the old wine cellar with the original stone walls and dark wooden beams and can appear a little dark on entry from the bright sun shine but there are plenty of lights to compensate and it is a lovely cool atmosphere in the heat of the summer which would be spoilt by rendering the walls and painting them white therefore losing the old character!
Ann and her husband only used the downstairs bedroom and are the first guests to complain about an uncomfortable bed and I do appreciate that some people like a harder bed and some like a softer bed.
The river beach is just a short distance from the house and so is the centre of the town making Santa Clara an ideal place to stay for a summer holiday for people who like a house with character and old charm.
Charming house full of character
Our family of four had a great time in Coja. The house has a good layout, plenty of space including two outside terraces overlooking the river. Everything was clean, working and full of character which for us is the most important aspect. Just a few minutes from a lovely river beach with cafes. The town is also nearby, no need to drive, everything extremely pleasant. The neighbours were very nice and welcoming too. There is a road behind the house, but traffic noise not a problem as it is not busy. This is not a 5 star residence but it is homely, cheerful, comfortable, clean and relaxing and we felt it was very good value. The river beach is one of the best in the area although the house is also a good base to explore further afield. We had a marvellous holiday.
Fabulous holiday home
We had a fabulous stay in Jane's house in Coja. It's right on the river front so perfect location. The house is spacious, comfortable and clean. I'd highly recommend and hope to return. Thank you.
So pleased to have you stay and look forward to welcoming you back in the future!
The surrounding countryside is very beautiful with lots of quaint, ancient villages to explore, wide rivers with crystal clear waters where you can fish or hire canoes and pedalos and lush green forests where you can tramp the dirt tracks. The rivers have lots of river beaches waiting to be discovered, some are very popular and maintained by the local councils where others, less well known, are dotted along the banks. You could have one all to yourself!
