About Pauline Vincent

We were looking for a stone house for ourselves but then fell in love with Les Granges which was much larger than we had anticipated. We spent 6 months in the UK and 6 months in France renovating Les Granges of which we are the very proud owners. We are on hand to point you in the right direction if needed and can recommend trips, restaurants and activities to ensure you make the most of your stay while keeping out of your way.

Pauline Vincent purchased this cottage in 1989

Why Pauline Vincent chose Margueron

We are tucked in a small corner of the Gironde that borders the Dordogne and are in the heart of rural France yet well placed for international airports and TGV. The people here are open and friendly, local wine and cuisine among the best in France. Ste Foy La Grande is a beautiful town, totally charming in looks and atmosphere, and with all the facilities and luxuries you could need whilst on holiday in the region. The ancient centre is filled with little boutiques, timeless cafes and fine restaurants where lunch lasts hours due to the astonishing array of gourmet dishes that arrive at your table, complete with the perfect wine to accompany each course. Those wishing to return home with some special recipes under their belt will be wonderfully happy staying in self catering Ste Foy La Grande accommodation, as recipes and tips are always easy to come by, and the finest of fresh ingredients are easily sought. The vast market that rolls into town every Saturday is the best in the department, and is filled with fantastically fresh local produce. The river banks provide a marvellous route for walking, cycling and horse riding from Les Granges, but the region is a maze of marked trails, so finding new routes is always a delight from Les Granges. There is also an excellent golf course just 15 minutes from Les Granges, at Chateau des Vigiers, which is a stunning 18 hole course in the Gironde countryside, set among the famous vineyards of the region. Wine tours and wine tasting events are excellent in the region, and are readily available; perfect for amateur wine lovers and connoisseurs alike.

What makes this cottage unique

It is difficult to say why we love this area but there is something relaxing and calming about the property. The old thick stone walls and high ceilings keep the rooms cool in summer. The restaurants and people are so welcoming and you feel really at home here. Effortless relaxation seems to come easy here.

A wonderful vacation in a relaxing atmosphere

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in Clematite very much. The apartment, the pool - everything was very clean, well maintained and had all we needed. And Mike and Pauline were very kind and helpful.

This is the perfect place to relax enjoying the sun and a large pool. And we had a very interesting trip to la Vézère, the river of prehistoric man.

We will certainly recommend this property to our friends and relatives.

Lovely Gites in the Dordogne

  • 5 of 5

A tranquil location in the beautiful rolling hills of the Dordogne, south of Ste Foy. Mike and Pauline have taken a run down complex of old stone buildings and breathed new life into them, creating 5 gites full of charm and character. The quality of the workmanship and the standard of facilities is excellent. Cosy and warm on a cold day and cool in the heat. It is an easy drive to Ste Foy- which has a new Leclerc supermarket with a superb restaurant. There are wonderful walks and drives to the Bastide towns and not too far down to The Garonne. We stayed longer than planned and really enjoyed the whole experience. Our thanks to Mike and Pauline who were so helpful and welcoming

Dordogne, France

Two weeks in August

  • 4 of 5

We had a very relaxing time here. The accommodation was spacious, very comfortable and fully equipped for all our needs. The outdoor space was perfect as it caught the sun all day, as did the wonderful, good sized salt water pool, both of which were furnished with plenty of parasols. Our hosts were unintrusive, yet always there if you needed anything.

gîte campanule

  • 5 of 5

Ste. Foy la Grande has a full range of banks, shops and supermarkets as well as a superb Saturday morning market. The square and surrounding streets are taken over by a fabulous market that draws crowds from miles around. Enjoy shopping for oysters, home-cured sausages, fresh fish, prepared meats and curios. Throughout the whole summer the town is home to evening concerts, night markets and events. Close by is kayaking, horse-riding, golf, tennis and go-karting. The town of Bergerac is just a few miles along the River Dordogne from a holiday rental at Les Granges. Bergerac is the largest town in the local area, and is a wonderfully picturesque place to spend a day, roaming the shop filled streets of the ancient centre, taking in one of the gourmet restaurants or hunting for the best wines produced in Aquitaine. The wine heritage of Bergerac is unsurpassed, with a great range of museums and cellars on show.

Visiting the local vineyards and tasting the wine is a must also. Various tours can be arranged to suit your needs.

Visit the famous chateau where Josphine Baker lived which is now a museum.

For a simply meal try the Restaurant Rapide in Ste. Foy. Finer dining nearby at Les Maillets where you can sit outside with views over the vines and enjoy the finest steak around or try one of their many other local dishes. Further afield try Le Camelia a family run restaurant with excellent cuisine all a short drive away.

A 'must do' is to go to the famous re-enactment of the Battle of Castillon (100 years war) where you can watch the famous battle, enjoy a drink or some food as part of the experience.

The Dordogne River, on which the town stands, is always a treat for holiday makers and locals alike. The blissfully clean and clear waters of the Dordogne offer a perfect retreat from the heat of the midday sun, whether you sit in the shade along the banks, fishing rod in hand (permits are very easy to obtain from any of the local tabacs), slowly strolling along the shaded banks, stopping at some of the little river beaches and having a swim, or simply paddling slowly along the river’s gently flowing course in a rental canoe.
