The open kitchen has a home-sized oven/range and double door refrigerator/freezer. Go up the three canteloupe-colored steps to the office with its glass-topped desk, if you must work. The end of this main deck and the aft deck provides views of the world-class yachts underway within the marina and the Atlantic beyond. You could spend all afternoon out here, day after day or choose instead a different deck every day, sharing the relaxing sunshine with a delicate blue heron or a curious pelicans, and even an occasional manatee.
THE KEY WEST HARBOR MARINA...Guests on board the M/V Coconuts enjoy full membership privileges at the Key West Harbour Marina including dining at the gourmet restaurant and lounging below, at the marina's big harbor front infinity pool. My daughter opted out of her high school senior week beach trip and requested a unique family and friend experience. Wow, did the M/V Coconuts Provide!!! We had 5 kids, 2x19, 1x18, 1x16, and 1x12 years old, plus Mom and Dad. The charm and the funky vibe of the boat wowed the entire crew. We own a tiny lake house in NY and I appreciated the thought that went into the compact storage and availability of all needs for preparing supper for 7. Ray was responsive and helpful, and Key West was a wonderful way to begin our vacation. Great A/C for July and the most comfortable bed in the master suite! The pullout worked great for our 12 year old (who cuddled with Dad when I woke early to sit on the deck off the kitchen). Thank you for the gorgeous thunderstorm to lull us to sleep, and the feeling of being a guest in a friend's home. I love that my teenagers and tweener missed it when we took our next leg of our trip to South Beach, Miami. I know I did! M/V Coconuts rules!
I contacted SleepAfloat about significant problems with our stay. I received an email stating: “Your message has been passed on to our operations director, and we will get back with you.”
I received a response 6 days later, which came in the form of an unsigned email from "SA Management." The response included false claims and multiple threats against me.
"SA Management" claimed that my email to them contained "threats" and "incomplete and deliberately omitted information."
Read the following, then draw your own conclusions:
Upon arrival on MV Coconuts, I detected significant mold contamination. I took photographs to document the medically hazardous conditions and sent the photos and a description to the agent at SleepAfloat.
In particular, the filter for the HVAV return was completely blocked by what appeared to be months, or even years' worth of dust and debris. Clearly, this system had been neglected.
SleepAfloat's local contact is to be commended for his heroic effort to make the vessel safe. He spent four hours cleaning the vessel.
However, mold remediation cannot be accomplished with household cleaning products and a consumer-grade vacuum cleaner. In fact, a consumer-grade vacuum cleaner only makes matter worse by spreading the mycotoxins throughout the enclosing space via its exhaust. Remediation requires the removal of all contaminated material, especially cloth and paper, and the services of trained technicians using specialized equipment.
From Wikipedia: "The purpose of cleanup is to eliminate mold and remove contaminated materials. Killing mold with a biocide is insufficient, since chemicals and proteins causing reactions in humans remain in dead mold."
The conditions aboard MV Coconuts were not solely the results of the previous night's guests and their dog. Mycotoxin contamination typically occurs over a period of time. As the photos of the HVAC filter demonstrated, the cleanliness of MV Coconuts had been neglected for months.
I suffered an allergic reaction to the conditions aboard MV Coconuts. My symptoms did not abate until I reached Miami International Airport for my return trip home. This confirms the presence of mycotoxins aboard MV Coconuts.
No paying guest should ever be subjected to such conditions, nor should a paying guest be depended upon to investigate and offer solutions to unhealthy and medically hazardous accommodations.
The boat is perfect clean. Can't beat the view everything about our stay was amazing. Will come back for sure. My 9 year enjoyed it so much he wants to live on a boat now
Definitely a cool factor staying onboard for overnights. Fairly rustic and a bit overpriced. The lower level bedroom does not have a tv and the large AC unit is directly overhead on deck. Real loud.
Everything was wonderful!!! Loved the sunsets and the boat was big enough to cook meals in.
The rooms were cozy and did not feel like we were on a boat.
I have recommended this boat to others and will continue to do so and we plan to stay on it again in the future, make it our annual vacation spot!
We had an amazing time on MV Coconuts! I would highly recommend it to anyone and would go back in a heartbeat!
