The Best — Loved This Home in Astoria!
We spent 10 weeks in this awesome home. This allowed us to spend precious time with our first grandchild, being available to help while not being too much on top of new parents. This home also allowed us to explore all corners of New York City as it is convenient to the subway. This was the perfect “base of operations.” Everything was conveniently located nearby and our Host was always wonderfully thoughtful and responsive. We had a few other couples (friends and relatives) come to visit us for short times during our stay and they all loved it. The home was spacious and perfect to make all of us very comfortable and we always felt COVID safe. We even hosted a few small get togethers and the kitchen was perfect for entertaining. This home is full of light and has lovely art. Everything we needed was provided, right down to a yoga mat and a blanket for a picnic when requested. The place is very quiet and had wonderful views of the Hell Gate bridge and trains in the distance. Truly Christina could not have done anything more to make us feel happy and glad to be here. We will always treasure memories of this home and this stay. It is the best! Thank you so much, Christina!

An Astoria gem and a rock star host
We spent 2 months in this beautifully remodeled, modern and fully equipped 2 bedroom home. The kitchen is filled with everything an aspiring chef would dream of, including an amazing induction stove, a Gaggenau oven and a sizeable fridge. All the rooms are spacious and fill with natural light. The master bedroom is large and the second bedroom is very good, all with super comfy beds and pillows. The bathrooms are newly remodeled. With the warmer weather we were able to enjoy the BBQ and back patio as well as the front garden where you can sit in a swing chair and admire the view of the famous Hell’s Gate bridge while sipping your favorite wine. Located in a fabulous spot in Astoria just a few blocks of Astoria restaurant heaven and the Astoria park and the East riverfront. Walking distance to supermarkets, pharmacy, wine stores and any other first necessity shops, even Costco !

Stylish, Comfortable first floor of house
Owner Christina was a pleasure to work with, and her house reflects her warmth. The two-floor apartment is spacious, with three baths and two beautifully done bedrooms. The kitchen is extremely well supplied and well-designed. I prepared a full Christmas dinner with all the counter space and appliances needed. The location is safe and easy walking distance to the Ditmars area amenities. The neighborhood is pleasant for walking around and very quiet. We never had any problems parking near the house, and quality food delivery choices were abundant, even during the pandemic. We’ve stayed in several nice apts in Astoria, but this is our clear favorite!

The lap of refined luxury
Bathed in sustainable soft furnishings and the latest technologies, we were surrounded by the love and energy that lingered from the efforts the owner had gone to in order to provide an amazing, relaxing, comfortable, and responsible space for us to enjoy our New York Holiday.

Great location, good accommodation, poor communication
While this was a great Queens location from which to explore all of NYC, and the accommodation was large enough for 2 couples to share, we were disappointed by the lack of communication from the owner, which resulted in us not being able to gain access to the unit, by the disruptive noise from upstairs (kids racing and jumping at 6am), and by the inadequate provisioning of the unit, which we rented for 10 days. This includes no hair dryer, inadequate toilet paper, lack of kitchen paper towels, no sealed soap, and inadequate basic kitchen provisions like black pepper, sweetener, sauces etc. Overall a decent experience.

I am a chef and a designer with a great passion for a great many things! From baking cakes and cooking for family, friends and clients to finding properties that need attention and renovating, restoring and designing beautiful cozy welcoming homes. I care deeply about our environment and children and animals. I adore my little family. I am a grandmother, I practice yoga (I have Yoga mats and props for 2 here!) I have found that I have a real gift of hospitality and I love entertaining and making our guests very cozy and welcome. I am a perfectionist and am detail oriented, so making my guests stay incredible and assisting in travel arrangements, reservations, recommendations from massages after a long day walking to where to eat or where to go for a run is my pleasure. I love all seasons, they have something to offer. I am a passionate person and I love all things aesthetically pleasing. We have loved renting our other home and have had extraordinary experiences and we are excited by the opportunity to show our guests our favorite place in New York...Astoria Queens where I spent many of my childhood years.

Why they chose this property

Oh this property has magic! There is no obstruction of light from the back to the front of the house which is unusual in an urban area. The back of the house has a small urban garden and gate (alley beyond) with low rise homes around so the sun streams in! The front faces the Hellgate bridge. I have loved restoring this old home. This was the sight of the housing for Steinway Piano company and these homes were built in the 1920's. I left the facade the same but the interior was completely gutted to make way for a bright and modern space, decorated in a mixed aesthetic. Everything is sparkling new and lovely. I chose this home when looking to buy last year because of the light, the proximity to the subway and the park, the ease to walk to restaurants and local bars, and there is wonderful food shopping. And, of course the easy ten minute drive into Manhattan and the five minute drive to La Guardia and 30 to Kennedy airport. I love it here.

What makes this property unique

I fell in love with this home and area because it still has the feeling of old worldliness. As I walk up the streets I see grape vines, basil and tomato plants growing from even the smallest patch of green. In Summer there are roses in every garden! We use Astoria Park daily, playing tennis, or running on the track, or just hanging out on the great lawn watching the sunset over the NYC skyline - it's all wonderful. The new Astoria Ferry landing brings us to Manhattan in 20 minutes passing under the great bridges and costs $2.75 and from lower manhattan we transfer to the ferries out to the NYC Beaches! This home is centrally located to access the airports, Long Island, Westchester, Manhattan, Brooklyn and New Jersey! The water front is wonderful to enjoy, and there is no shortage of wonderful things to do! We have a swing in the front garden to watch the sunsets over the Hellgate Bridge. The kitchen has a sliding door onto a deck where you can have breakfast and plan your days activities. There is a garden with herbs growing for your meals. We have a custom extra long sofa to curl up on after a long day. The master en suite shower is like a spa. We have the finest linens and towels to make you feel special and cozy. The floors in the house were brought in from Maine and are made of red birch, milled for us and finished with natural oil. We used only non VOC finishes in our home to keep this space clean and pure. There are A/C split systems in each room for custom comfort. This home and this neighborhood are deeply connected to the hustle and bustle and excitement of New York City but it feels like a little hamlet tucked away that after long days has a pleasant and elegant warmth to come home to. Every comfort has been arranged, and there is a local housekeeper that can come in if needed. Let me know if you have any further questions.
