This romantic apartment is on the second floor of a home built in the 1890's. Relax on the front porch at the entrance or enjoy the private deck on the second floor. Light abounds with quaint little coves for reading. In the fall the foliage of the trees is visible from all windows, the winter brings sparkle when the snowflakes fall and the wavy glass glistens as the street light provides illumination. Truly a beautiful sight. Summertime you can open the windows and listen to the bustle of Hanover Street as springtime blossoms everywhere. If you're looking for a place to get away and at the same time have the amenities such as restaurants and shopping this is a gem.
The flat is only 5 blocks from the square of Carlisle. On the square May through November, Wednesdays the farmers bring their produce and the community comes together. The square consists of Carlisle's old and new Courthouses and 2 historical churches that both George Washington and Benjamin Franklin were present at one time or another. There are bakeries, gift shops, theater and many more attractions all year around.
My husband and I have a love for the architecture of older structures including old Victorian properties. We acquired both 558 (Glass Gable North) and 560 (Glass Gable South) south Hanover Street in the spring of 2000. At the time my husband was serving on active duty in the Navy and he had been assigned to work at the Naval Support Activity, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. We first discovered 560 South Hanover Street when we were looking to purchase a home. We immediately saw a lot of potential for 560. After getting 560 under contract for purchase, the owner of 560 also offered to sell us the adjoining property, 558 South Hanover Street. Within a 30 day period we had acquired both properties and we starting working on remodeling both properties. We lived in 560 until 2004 when we moved into the Carriage House which we had just completely remodeled on the rear of the 560 property. We still live in the Carriage House today. We started renting out 560 in 2008 and by that time we had starting referring to the property as the Glass Gable. Based on the glass that was installed on the front gable that adorns both 558 and 560 South Hanover Street. We have met some very interesting and outstanding people since we started offering the Glass Gable s a short term rental.

We enjoy old Victorians! We invite you to experience the feel and ambiance of staying in a Victorian that has been updated to provide those amenities such as running water that we have all come to except as a given for any home. This property is located less than 30 miles from Gettysburg, 180 miles from New York City, 120 miles from Washington DC, less than 80 miles from Baltimore and its inner harbor, and 30 to 35 miles away from Hershey, Pennsylvania the home of Hershey Chocolate and of course, Hershey Park. The Glass Gable is convenient to many areas of interest within a two to three hour drive.
As mentioned above, the Glass Gable has a great central location to many areas of interest.
Everything about this rental was easy. The home was even prettier than the pictures. The beds were comfortable, even the pull out sofa with inflatable air mattress. The kitchen was clean and had what we needed with a nice big round table off the living room. Each room had back-up heaters (temps were in the teens) and we were comfortably warm. Holiday decorations were pretty & fun. Meeting the owner upon arrival was a treat. Vinnies, Faysand Wendy's restaurants were closely walkable. The tap water was fine. We enjoyed being able to have the adjoining door to the main house on the other side opened for us. It was very similar to our apartment but included a larger kitchen, dining room, & living room where we all spent most of our time. There were lots of chairs, sofas and cozy nooks. It would be great to visit here in the summer with the large and well-equipped back yard. We highly recommend both sides of this property. On our side, we easily slept 2 couples and 2 singles. (I double bed, 1 double pull out sofa, 1 room with twin beds, & a small room with a single bed.) My only caution is that there are lots of stairs which could be a challenge for some. The unit is on the 2nd & 3rd floor. There are good rails and the stairs are well-lit. I hope you give this gem a try. It is perfect for a group. Enjoyed by all!
Loved staying here. Convienently located near Dickinson College and town of Carlise.
Great place located close to downtown Carlisle and the Carlisle fairgrounds (we always come in for Corvettes At Carlisle in August). Well maintained and clean. Lots of towels, and the kitchen has all the dinnerware and appliances necessary for a comfortable stay. Not as big as Glass Gable South, and only has one bedroom on the main level. Still four people fit comfortably as we used the living room as a bedroom to complement the two upstairs.
There are restaurants near by and a few within walking distance (including a Dairy Queen), as well as access to the highway to easily get you into Harrisburg.
Definitely would recommend checking out this property for your next visit to Carlisle. I think this marks our fifth year staying at one or the other Glass Gable units, and we'll keep coming back.
The Glass Gable was just what we needed. We had planned a trip with lots of traveling and needed a home base in a central location. Diana provided just what we needed, comfortable beds, a kitchen for quick meals, and we even used the grill! She also provided a high chair and a baby gate to keep our kids from falling down the stairs. It was cozy and clean. We enjoyed our stay there.

We really enjoyed staying here during our Thanksgiving vacation! It is a beautiful home and the owners are very nice- even opened the door on Thanksgiving evening for us when we locked ourselves out! Highly recommended!
Some of the above mentioned amenities are a little over 15 minutes away but all within 30 to 60 minutes. For example Hershey Park and Outlets are about 35 miles away. Gettysburg Historical Battlefield is approx. 30 minutes. Ski Roundtop is about 25 minutes driving time and Whitetail is approx. 1 hour driving time south on Interstate 81.
