About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6 - 7)

Cheery cottage (vacation home) with 2 master suites (with attached baths), one on each level, and additional guest room and bath on main level. (Great opportunity for reunions with additional rental next door under same owner - see vrbo #3495242ha).

Sip beverages and enjoy alfresco dining on the covered porch or catch the last of the sunset on the patio with a cool drink while grilling dinner on the gas grill. Or take the night off and go out for a great meal at one of the local restaurants.

Nap in the backyard in a shaded garden hammock or relax with a good book. Open living space describes the kitchen, dining and living space on upper level. Lower level provides an additional living space with TV, desk, and small dining table. Bar refrigerator and coffee maker are also available for sleepy guests in lower level master suite.

Televisions (3), DVD, VHS, stereo unit with CD and IPod player are included. Electric fireplace on both levels can warm up a chilly evening for skiers to relax and lounge with hot chocolate and a good movie and leave you rejuvenated for another day on the slopes. Nubs Nob and Boyne Highlands are less than 10 minutes away and Boyne Mountain is a 25 minute ride away in Boyne Falls.

In the warm months, go to the beach, get in a boat, take a walk along the Bluff with beautiful views of the Bay or along the water past beaches and marinas. Ride a bike, play golf or tennis, sightsee or shop 'til you drop in the unique stores you will find in Harbor Springs and Petoskey (across the Bay). Take the ferry (30 minutes away) to Mackinac Island for the day and see the Fort and Arch Rock, among other sights. Rent a horse or take a carriage ride while on the Island.

This house is a short walk to town. Skiing slopes (2) are within 10 minutes of the house. You can reach northern Mi by flights to Pellston Airport (closest airport and 25 min. away), or Traverse City - 1.5 hrs. away, or Lansing Mi Airport - 3.75 hrs away. Flights to Detroit are cheaper but drive will take longer.

This home is cozy and comfy and lends itself to gatherings of all sorts. A great getaway for families, or couples/friends, a respite for one or a romantic retreat for two. There's always plenty to do 'up north' and the opportunity to do nothing if the mood strikes.

Keywords: Newly renovated, nicely appointed, casual, all seasons vacation home (cottage) with all the amenities and yard. A restful getaway located on Little Traverse Bay near beaches, golf, shops, skiing, playground, boating, art shows, festivals and activities for all seasons. Perfect for families and friends. Sleeps 7. Two master suites each with attached bath, (1) guest suite and additional bath and laundry space. Open kitchen with all conveniences, dining and living space. Additional living space on lower level. Large outdoor front porch (24'x12') and backyard patio with gas grill. TVs, cable and wifi included. About Barbara Arnold

I grew up spending all my summers in this area since I was 9 yrs. old. I brought my children here for their summers and I hope someday they will do the same when they have children. I love the area in any and all seasons as there is something to be had for everyone regardless of talents, hobbies or interests.

Barbara Arnold purchased this house in 2009

Why Barbara Arnold chose Northern Michigan

I chose this area because of my fond memories but also because of its' universal appeal to others, and the opportunity for year round activities.

Skiing, boating, golfing and tennis are all nearby and the slopes are less than 10 minutes away.

What makes this house unique

I love enjoying the company of friends for beverages and a grilled dinner on the patio. I appreciate napping in the shaded garden hammock in the backyard or just relaxing in an adirondack chair late in the day. Gathering on the porch to recounts day's activities is a ritual.

Relaxing in front of the fireplace after a day on the nearby slopes of Nubs Nob or Boyne Highlands is warm and restful. Catching a movie in the comfort of this home seems to work for the weary skier.

Heading downtown to watch the sailboat races or the yachts arriving on the waterfront or sit by the Bay is a pleasure of mine. Walking the boardwalk down to the beach and sitting and swimming in the afternoon is the best.

Rainy days do not deter me - with book in hand I head to the covered porch and relax. Sometimes the games will emerge when others also congregate on the spacious porch.

I enjoy walking or riding my bike along the Bluff looking at the spectacular views of the Bay and boating on the Bay is even better. Jumping into the clear clean waters of Lake Michigan is a joy.

I always find myself rested and renewed as I head home from this nest up north.

Great house in a great location

  • 5 of 5

Despite a slight issue with the entrance on our arrival date we had a wonderful repeat experience. Barb quickly addressed our issue and the rest of our stay went as expected. This was our second year at the house for a ski weekend and the location is great for access to Boyne Highlands and Nubs Nob. We look forward to our next trip up.

A Perfect Cottage in an Idylic Lake Harbor Town

  • 5 of 5

Having rented a number of HBO properties in the United States and in England and Wales, where we have family, our expectations run high when we seek a nice place to stay. Barbara's cottage fulfilled our every desire, excellent location, just a mile from an amazing 26-mile paved bike trail, mere blocks down a hill to the harbor/beach, and the same distance from the charming shops of Harbor Springs.

The cottage had more than enough room for my husband and I, in fact we could have had another couple stay in the house too because the lower level has a huge bedroom, (king bed and another bed) a full bath and large room for watching TV. We primarily used the upstairs, the living room with its comfy chairs, and pleasant kitchen fully stocked with everything you need, even staples you're invited to use. How wonderful not to have to stock up on things like olive oil, which you never need a lot of, and usually don't use and leave behind, or cart home. There also were other essentials for cooking, too many to name.

I'm picky about beds and Barbara assured me that the mattresses in the cottage were comfy. She was completely correct--the master bedroom, which is so lovely and opens up onto a patio in the backyard, seems to have a foam-type of mattress, which was wonderful. The double twins in the other upstairs bedroom were more conventional mattresses but equally as nice.

The bathrooms are all well lit and have plenty of storage and towels galore.

This marvelous cottage was immaculate, so well maintained and clean. The front porch is another plus, picture pretty with plenty of space to relax in comfort. I also liked the plants around the house, flowers and hostas, which made the property feel much like home.

Barbara's cottage is sheer perfection, a perfect spot to relax in a community we plan on returning to again and again. Try as I might, I can't come up with one thing that we would have wanted improved in the cottage. It truly was a home away from home for us, and one offered at a very reasonable price.

Finally, Barbara gets high marks for communication. She promptly replied to my e-mails and was made herself available if any problems should arise. We only had one problem. We wished we'd stayed longer!
