My husband and I are native Alexandrians and have owned this home for many years. We purchased it so my mother could move from her 3 story townhouse to one level living. She enjoyed many years there before moving in with my sister.
Recently we decided it was the perfect spot for vacationers as it is in a wonderful, quiet community; yet is within walking distance of everything.
I actually grew up in the neighborhood, attended the local elementary school and now our grandson is attending the same school.
We live just a short 5 minute drive from the house and can make ourselves available if there is a problem.
Betty Mallon--- firstname.lastname@example.org purchased this bungalow in 1988
I know how many people visit the Washington DC area each year, and I wanted to provide a more home-like setting for people who don't like the bustle of hotels. Old Town Alexandria and Del Ray are right on the doorstep of this cute bungalow, and with DC just a short distance away, I thought it was the perfect pied a terre!
This is a single family detached home so you don't have go worry about your noise level of coming or going as there is no unit above, below or beside you. You have your own washer and dryer and yard to use for outdoor grilling and dining. There is plenty of room to stretch out in this little home, and the privacy it affords, allows visitors to really 'live' in the DC area. Walking to shops and restaurants, theater, boating, metro and the like are just the icing on the cake.
This was a perfect choice for our family. Alexandria is a nice city to stay while visiting Washington D.C. The property was exactly as described and the pictures are accurate. The property owners have set this property up to accommodate families and afford privacy in a nice home. Thank you Mike and Betty.
We came to town for a wedding and some site seeing. The house is adorable and was perfect for us. I was amazed that they provided so much including extra toilet paper, paper towels and coffee. The beds were very comfortable and the sheets just lovely. It had a nice little yard too. The neighborhood was safe and friendly. Anything we needed was close. I definitely recommend this place and I would stay here again.
We came to the DC area with our kids for Spring Break. This property was absolutely perfect! It was a wonderful size for our family of five. We couldn't have asked for anything better. The neighborhood is quiet and the house has everything you would need. The location is only about a half a mile from the Metro. Easily walk able, so we hardly used our car! Old Town Alexandria has some great shopping and restaurants. I would highly recommend this property!
Our family travels a lot & we always stay in a rental home. This was our best experience yet! Betty was wonderful & really made an effort to make it perfect for us!
The house feels bigger on the inside than you would expect & is very convenient to everything but quiet at nice and felt super safe. The beds are comfortable and all of the linens are so nice. They thought of everything: well appointed kitchen, bathroom accessories etc.
The best part for us was how easy it was to travel with our small children. There was a nice crib with good bedding, a high chair & a whole closet full of toys! There are several playgrounds nearby & a nice backyard with chairs & a grill.
I can't inagine ever staying anywhere else again when we come to the area!
We stayed with our two young children for a couple months at this lovely rental while on an extended stay to the area. The house has everything you need for a comfortable stay--kitchen supplies, food staples, extra linens, toiletries and bandaids (very handy with our toddler), a large backyard, fast internet, washer and dryer, and even some games for kids. The owners thought of everything--there are even several large umbrellas if it happens to rain which are very convenient for the walk to the metro and while sightseeing.
The location is great with an easy walk to the metro through an adorable and safe neighborhood. Parking is very easy to come by too if you drive though; we almost always parked directly in front of the house. There are tons of great restaurants within walking distance on Mount Vernon Avenue to suit nearly every taste. Old Town Alexandria is just a bit longer of a walk.
We cannot say enough wonderful things about the owners who accommodated us for a longer stay of a couple months. They were very flexible when our dates changed a bit at the end and we needed to stay a little longer. They were very responsive and hospitable--they even asked us if there was anything else we needed for the kitchen and supplied a muffin tin and more serving bowls.
This rental must be one of the best ways to stay in the area--much more comfortable and personal than a hotel with plenty of indoor and outdoor space. We will absolutely recommend this house to our family and friends as well as stay here again ourselves if the opportunity arises. We can't recommend this place highly enough!
My husband and two teenage daughters recently enjoyed our stay in this home. Not only was it well appointed but it was extremely clean with a well stocked linen closet. Nothing was overlooked including the scented candle! It was within an easy 15 walk to the Metro. We also used a local cab company and they arrived both times within 10 minutes. Everything was modern, tasteful and it worked! I would much rather stay in a home like this than a hotel room. I also appreciated how quiet it was. If our travels bring us back around the Washington area I would book this home again!
Our Guest Cottage sits right between two very desirable parts of the historic City of Alexandria. Within a 15 to 20 minute walk, one can enjoy numerous, excellent restaurants, shops, antique stores, grocery stores, pharmacies, cleaners and two Metro stops. Movie theaters, malls, public tennis courts and community recreation center are all within a 10 minute drive.
From the Braddock Road Metro and the King Street Metro, you can be in Washington, DC, Arlington, VA or Maryland in just minutes. The Metro also takes you directly to Reagan National Airport.
The home sits on a quiet one-way residential street that has tons of free parking if you do have an automobile. There are two bedrooms and one bath. Built in 1926, the home's bath is fairly original with a deep, cast iron tub with a shower ring. Because of its depth, it can be somewhat of a challenge to anyone with mobility restrictions. The kitchen is fully equipped with fridge, stove, toaster oven, blender and microwave. There is no dishwasher however. Additionally, there is a gas grill for warm weather grilling. The washer and dryer are housed in the basement.
The house has a TV and has internet access as well. Enjoy all the historic sights of Alexandria, George Washington's Estate of Mt. Vernon, Woodlawn, Gunston Manor, Arlington Cemetery and the endless choices of free museums in Washington, DC.
