Located in the rolling hills of Tennessee on the NC line, just a 20 min. drive from downtown Boone, lies one of the most beautiful farms in the area. This 1940 farmhouse is simple and rustic, inviting guests to relax and appreciate the wonders of nature. Complete with white clad iron tub, porch swing, and vermont wood stove, the home contains many features that reflect its cozy charm. A bubbling spring, chirping frogs, gold fish pond, cow fields, personal hiking trails, and delightful wild flowers surround the property. Just steps away is a large barn where guests can entertain, complete with bar, and a stage for those who wish to invite entertainment or put on your own show. Red Tail golf course is just 5 mins. We also have an RV Hookup!
Red Tail Golf Course is only 5 Minutes away and a number of antique stores are dotted throughout the area, as well as the many tourist activities available in the heart of the High Country. Home of Appalachian State University, the campus offers many cultural, athletic and educational activities. Downtown Boone is a bustling small town with nightclubs, great restaurants and quaint shops. Grandfather Mountain is just 30 minutes away along with the towns of Banner Elk and Foscoe, with many opportunties to ski and engage in other winter sports. Dont forget the Blue ridge Parkway which offers endless views and hiking trails......Many more things to do....This property can also serve as a wonderful camping retreat, or a getaway for someone seeking peace and quiet to meditate, write, create etc. Wedding packages available. We also have an RV hookup!
We love this property and have stayed here twice. However, our last stay winter 2016/17 was really disappointing. The house was filthy, we actually spent one entire day cleaning (we went out and bought cleaning supplies) before our extended families came in. Really disappointed at the state of disrepair and especially dirtiness. The charm of this place is that it's a really rustic farmhouse with no frills (no phone, central heat, cable, ac) tucked between mountain ridges into it's own little hollow. Basically you go back in time - super cool and really relaxing - on an incredible piece of land, >100 acres! However while our first visit was a little lacking on cleanliness, our last visit was truly bad. The windows were literally filled with dead and dying flies (piles of them in every window), really dirty bathroom with 3 towels for a party of 7, dirty kitchen with no towels and mouse traps with dead mice in them under the beds and furniture. We actually had a family member bring up a vacuum (the onsite old Roomba Robot vacuum didn't cut it) and mopped the floors several times before the water stopped turning black, not to mention wiping everything down and rewashing all the dishes and entire kitchen. Bedrooms and sheets were questionable at best and blankets were definitely not washed in a very long time. I hate to write this because this is a super cool place with incredible potential, but it's truly a shame when the owners have let it get so very dirty. We were embarrassed since we had brought in out of town guests and even our young children commented about how dirty it was on this visit. Really wish the owners would clean it up and keep it in better care - rustic simplicity of an old imperfect farmhouse IS perfect but basic cleanliness for a rental is an utmost necessity and expected. Not sure we'll be back for some time...
Our 3rd visit. We will be back. The snow was an added bonus for the kids!
Great time had by our whole family. Wonderful experience for all. Our four year-old loved the kids' upstairs bedroom, toys, and exploring the property. We loved hanging out on the porch and seeing the vintage items in the house. Can't wait to do this again next summer!
My wife, our dog, and I went to stay on the farm for 2 nights. We had a great time, and never needed to leave the property once we hiked everything in we needed. We did take a little drive into Mountain City and then explored the local lake, but we could have done without that, as it was nice, but nothing out of the ordinary for the area. The business rental details were easy to handle, the property was as advertised, and the house and rest of the property were clean and well-maintained. There was plenty of open space for us and Maggie to enjoy, and we took advantage of the gorgeous weather to just hike and hang around the property, play some horseshoes (we only saw two horseshoes to play with), and generally just relax and forget about life back in Raleigh. You are only a few hundred yards off of the road, but you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. There was very little civilization noise. We absolutely loved it!!
The house is rustic, and has no cable service, but there are some DVDs. (We had so much fun that we did not miss the TV at all.) The downstairs queen-sized bed was pretty weak. The mattress sloped toward the middle and I would say that the crappy bed was the worst thing about the stay. I find that has been the case in several of the rentals where we have visited lately. I am not expecting a five-star bed, but the mattress and box springs have seen better days, and should be replaced. The small fish pond way out back was great to hang around, and it had some of the biggest Koi I have ever seen. The fence that runs around a good portion of the field is electrified at times during the year, so pay attention and read the informational notes the owners have left for you.
Other than the bed, the only other issue was a lack of hand soap in the bathroom and kitchen. I was not expecting a complete toiletry set, and I always bring my own shampoo and body wash when staying away at a cabin or home, but no hand soap was a definite surprise. It was nothing we did not work around, and it was, overall, a minor issue for us.
We are happy we stayed at White Fence Farm. We are a couple in the 40-50 year old range, are in good shape, active, with an energetic 12 year old Rat Terrier. We would go back to the farm again, no question about it, especially if there was a new mattress set! (I LOVE my sleep!)

Simply put, this place was a slice of heaven. Tranquil, welcoming, comfortable. The farmhouse was simple, rustic, perfect for anyone looking to get away. There was no cellular service available which was another welcomed reason to disconnect. The grounds were impeccable, inviting and oh-so-spacious. I visited at the peak of the leaves changing color and enjoyed daily hikes around the property with my dog. I just felt happy being there. I never left the property for the duration of my stay. Thank you White Fence Farm!
A charming turn of the century farmhouse filled with interesting antiques of it's time. Our children 8 and 3 enjoyed exploring all the items in the house and around the property. They especially liked the stereoscope with the old image photographs. We spent hours lazying around the wood burning stove, playing board games, hiking around the property and exploring the barn and fields. The beds were comfy, linens soft, kitchen ample enough for the creative chef. We dined in almost every night and I enjoyed cooking meals in the rustic kitchen looking out up the valley, thinking of all the people who preceded my tasks since 1880 when the farmhouse was built. Such a magical place. We will be back!
This quaint farmhouse is located at the end of a short gravel road, just 20 minutes from downtown Boone, NC, home of Appalachian State University. While the farm is easily accessed off of highway 421, it is completely private and the only sounds you will hear are frogs chirping and the wind blowing through the trees. The 105 acre property is a pristine mountain 'bowl', offering stunning views in all directions and surrounded by hiking and 4 wheeler trails that offer a beautiful, peaceful hideaway, second to none. Several writers have stayed at our retreat to experience REAL peaceful thought. We are only 5 minutes from Red Tail golf course and 20 minutes from Boone golf course. The farm has cattle, several creeks, a gold fish pond, a functional barn for entertaining, a stage (previous home to the 'Trade music Farm'), a tee box and golf hole, awesome hiking trails and amazing views ! Antiquing is a passion on this stretch of Hwy 421, you will come home with some deals! Winter tourists will enjoy skiing and ice skating in the area as well as snow shoeing right on our property. Ziplining is a few minutes away. Warmer weather visitors can venture out for white water trips or just floating down the New River. Plenty to do in this exciting area.
