About this property

BRECKENRIDGE WILDERNESS

"Wilderness" is a modern mountain retreat just three miles south of Breckenridge, in the Town of Blue River. Unlike many properties in the area, it is easily accessed from Highway 9 and only a five minute drive to Main Street dining/shopping and ski resort gondola parking.

Wilderness is a high efficiency, green design by Blu Homes (as featured in Dwell magazine) completed in 2009. The property is located on a quiet road, spaciouswith dramatic feature of its open floor plan, are the twenty foot ceilings, and walls of windows that truly bring nature into the main living space - and is complemented by the modern finish and furnishings found throughout.

Wilderness guests will enjoy a fully equipped chef's kitchen, complete with Bosch appliances and large prep island/breakfast bar. The custom dining table seats ten comfortably, and the breakfast bar seats four. Guests will love the outdoor space with ample seating and views of the spruce and aspen forest. The outdoor gas fireplace is a wonderful gathering spot year round, and an oversized hammock and kids sandbox are welcomed additions for the summer months.

Wilderness also offers a new outdoor spa or hot tub for our guests to work out the kinks of your ski or cycle day! The outdoor living space was not compromised by the addition, as an extension to the concrete patio was constructed to accommodate this new amenity.

Wilderness has three large bedrooms: master (one king), guest (one queen), bunk room (four twins), plus an open loft area with convertible sofa beds (two full). It offers one full bathroom located near the guest sleeping quarters (with full size HE washer/dryer) and an en suite bathroom in the master bedroom. Four adults and four children are comfortably accommodated in the bedrooms.

Wilderness is outfitted with two HD TVs, full premium cable channels, Xfinity DVR, and a Boston Acoustic sound system in the main living space. The loft area also has a desk with LCD monitor for connecting laptop if work is in order, and the entire home is served by high speed wireless Internet with Xfinity.

It's dramatic contemporary design, comfortable living spaces and convenient location, will make your stay at Wilderness a truly unique Breckenridge experience for the entire family.

Misleading professional pics
Online this property looks amazing, in reality it is not as clean as it should be. The dishwasher was broken upon arrival, dishes in the cupboard were dirty which we had to rewash by hand, the showerheads were old and dirty, the washer had mold stains on the rubber ring, the utensil drawers were disorganized, the back yard was full of dandelions not natural ground. We ended up cutting our trip short by one night (without any refund) bc the home owner couldn’t tell us why her alarm was going off, seriously concerned it was gas. More worrisome, she didn’t know what alarm we were referring to. Location is convenient, great trail behind the house with bear sightings.

Outstanding Getaway
My wife and I brought my mother and father in law for an extended weekend getaway this month. The property was exactly as advertised and exceeded our expectations. Clean, bright, open, and well appointed. We saw two fox during our stay and enjoyed an array of birds, as well. The owner was a true pleasure to interact with and always available. Location is perfect for exploring Breck, Dillon, Frisco, Vail, and beyond. We could not have had a better trip. Thank you so match for opening your home to us!

You will not be disappointed
We originally booked our stay in March of 2019 for a girls trip. We were so excited for a weekend getaway, relaxation, and some skiing. Unfortunately a big snow storm had different plans for us and canceled all of our flights. We were beyond disappointed that our weekend was canceled and we were out the money for our stay. However Sarah, the home owner, made the sting a little less by allowing us to rebook for another weekend during non-ski season (October). The house is exactly how it looks in the pictures, very clean, and the location is perfect, Secluded yet close enough to town. While we did not get the chance to ski we were able to see some snow and enjoy the hot tub. The only complaint other than our original booking being canceled (which was out of everyone’s control) is the beds are not overly comfortable, however that is nothing an extra glass of wine couldn’t fix. Over all we were very pleased with our stay and would love to return back for a ski weekend. Thank you Sarah for being so kind and allowing us to rebook and still get our trip in.

About the host

Host profile image
Sarah and I are proud parents of a five year old daughter, are avid skiers, hikers and enjoy Breckenridge and Summit County year round.

Why they chose this property

We love the proximity to Breck for sure (skiing, dining, nightlife, etc), and easy access from Hwy 9, but also it's relative isolation, and the natural beauty of the property.

Wilderness is an example of modern architecture that you don't find often in the area - it's simple, functional, efficient... and absolutely stunning.

Why don't they build them all this way?

What makes this property unique

Architecturally interesting home, adjacent to NFS land, with trail access.

Proximity to multiple top ski resorts (Breckenridge, Keystone, A-Basin, Copper, Vail, Beaver Creek)

Nature, views, wildlife (numerous fox, moose, elk and bear sitings in backyard).
