About this property

Coastal VIEWS with easy SURF ACCESS. Home with yard and spa...pets considered!

Ocean views and beach access in the much touted town. In the words of Sunset Magazine “The small surf town of Cayucos has remained miraculously immune to over-development for decades, despite its great wines to the east and white sandy beaches to the west”. Beach living surround by the rolling hills of country living.
Cross the road with the safety of a traffic light and access the minimally populated beach white sand beach, a surfing and boogie boarding hot spot for the locals (less than 2600 very friendly people). Multiple beach access points across the street or if you are feeling adventurous take the locals route through the large culvert directly across the street. Try the dog friendly beach directly to the south and walk to Morro Rock or take a Northward stroll to the pier. Beachgoers include kiteboarders, parasailers, boogie boarders as well as surfers. They share the ocean with frequently seen whales, dolphins, sea otters and tidal pool inhabitants. The coast hosts many species of sea birds including falcons, herons and pelicans; occasionally a bald eagle rests in the tree outside the master bedroom. Seasonally, monarch butterflies by the hundreds grace the eucalyptus behind the home. Fish the surf, build castles, fly kites or bask in the sun. Sunsets are a daily spectacle from the deck, dining room, family or living room… even the kitchen.
Cayucos is a special town devoid of the tourist trap feel. It hosts dining both formal and casual dining. Just 4 mile South is Morro Bay with “The Rock” with a full range of dining and shopping choices and a span of recreational options from deep sea fishing charters and whale watching to kayaking and paddle boarding. Locals enjoy the family owned and operated large theater with would beam ceilings and affordable snack options. Also available family owned grocers as well as traditional super markets
This home adjoins two very popular road bike routes: the coast route North or South on Highway One or up Old Creek for the serious athletes. Additionally, a popular neighborhood for walkers and runners as well as a hiking up the hill for meadow and ocean views. Bike trails are a couple of miles down the street if you prefer separation from cars. Walk a couple of blocks for the local dog park or continue on into town.
Day Trips:
• Northwest up the coast 24 miles to Hearst Castle and Cambria with quick trips up to the elephant seals (the docents are very informative and the seals the next best thing to a walrus) and moonstone beach.
• Northeast up Old Creek scenic drive 15 miles to the heart of wine tasting country.
• Southeast 18 miles to San Luis Obispo for old fashioned downtown shopping where you’ll meet the shop owners and your purchases will have even greater meaning. Not to be missed is the Thursday evening Farmers Market beyond stocking up on local produce, plan to eat at the many local food booths and enjoy the entertainment at every intersection.
• South 13 miles to spectacular views, hiking and mountain biking paradise of Montana de Oro State Park.
• Other area highlights include: Oceano Dunes, Pismo Beach, Monarch Butterfly grove, Avila Beach & aquarium, two California Missions, lighthouses, zoo, Paso Robles downtown park, a growing craft beer community, Great American Melodrama, Museums (including Children’s), water slides in Paso Roble and Lopez Lake and Lakes; Naciemento, San Antonio and Santa Margarita,
Community events include the January Bird Festival, incredible classic car shows, Cayucos Hometown Fourth of July Parade and Fireworks, Morro Bay October Harbor Fest, and the December Boat Parade and more events throughout the area including Jazz, Folk and Classical Music events as well as Open Studios featuring the large arts community. There is something for everyone, especially fun and relaxation!!
November 2016, a remodel replaced and updated lighting, kitchen, bathrooms, fixtures, faucets countertops, tile wood trim and flooring as well as fully redecorated. New linens, towels and completely restocked kitchen. Master has a king bed and large mirrored closet as well as nightstands and dresser, spare room has two twins or they can be joined and topped for a king size bed. Family/TV room adjacent to kitchen (kids can be close by but with a space of their own) has a queen murphy bed chest. Living room is beach living at its best with fine couches and nicely decorated space, great for enjoying each other’s company and that of friends. The views from living, dining and family rooms take your breath away. Fenced landscaped yard with patio furniture as well as a separate area for the spa.
Lots of extras including board games, beach towels and chairs, toys for beach and home, wine glasses, spices and condiments. Enjoy little niceties including a towel warming rack, farmhouse sink and I-Pod sound system.

Perfect Cayucos getaway!
We had such a great time at Jennifer’s lovely home. The walk to the beach is short even with little kids. The house was comfortable and clean and in a great location. And Jenifer went above and beyond as a host. We hope to come back!

Family Vacation
This is our 2nd stay in this home. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location is great and the view is, too. The house is well maintained and well stocked with items you typically need on vacation. The hostess is easy to communicate with. We look forwarded to returning again.

About the host

Host profile image
I've lived in San Luis Obispo County since 2001 and have benefited from all the area has to offer. I've experience nearly all the trails both on foot and with my Icelandic horses. I retired from a 30+ year career with the YMCA as the CEO in 2013. Originally, I lived on a ranch in Atascadero and only recently moved onto the Cayucos property. I served as the President of a local Rotary Club after my retirement and remain a member today. I've been not only checking experiences off my bucket list such as a trip to Iceland and raising a service dog puppy but am fortunate to add to the list as well. I have benefited from my own travels and the use of both timeshares and VRBO properties. I have enjoyed getting to know the owners of those properties, some of which have become friends. These experiences, coupled with my own grandmother's operation of a motel, inspired me to convert from "transition rental for relocating executives" to VRBO offerings. I am looking forward to making sure your experience is the best possible.

In addition to the Vacation Rental efforts, I offer personal coaching to individuals and to groups. Annually, a retreat experience is offered to boost those efforts for those clients. The property offered a local venue for the short time-framed retreats. I consider myself a whole life coach with equal focus on inspired living, best business practices, healthy living both physically and mental as well as a solid foundation of self and other's awareness. Inspired living comes easily at the beach! Who can resist a walk on the beach. Stress reactions seem to melt away. With the help of the environment, we can quickly move to the maters of the mind.

My love of animals benefits like minded guests who choose to travel with their dog as I trust your love included obedience and house training. I've fenced a small yard for your pets to enjoy alongside you.

Why they chose this property

When I was able to buy a rental property, I considered where else I might want to live. It doesn't get better than Cayucos: best weather of all the coastline in San Luis Obispo County, the most hours of sunshine, the most moderate temperature and the breeze is refreshing not challenging. The town of Cayucos is the last of the classic beach towns with friendly farmers and ranchers and a great stability in family life. At the time is was a hidden gem; recently discovered and promoted by Sunset Magazine.

The property offered an existing Vacation Rental license which is hard to come by. Its unique design with a full family home of 1750+ square foot upstairs and a 600 square foot apartment downstairs created an ideal arrangement to "have my cake and eat it too". The beach access is fabulous either by crossing the street at the light or the locals route through the creek underpass at the end of the driveway. Since dogs and horses are allowed on the beach, it could not have been more perfect for my use. The abundance of parking was also appealing.

The bus stop is just as easily accessed as I planned ahead for those years when driving was impractical. Located close to both Morro Bay and Cayucos meant my every need to could be met. The colleges insure that a culture of personal and professional growth was vibrant as well as enriching cultural experiences by both colleges.

The property ideally provides access to some of the best experiences the County has to offer. Craft breweries and premier wine tasting experiences await just 10 miles west after the scenic Old Creek Road drive. A romantic beach horseback ride can be arranged at either Cayucos or Morro State Beaches. Surfing, wind-surfing, paddle boarding, hang-gliding are all just steps away as well as surf fishing. Whale watching and deep sea fishing is less than 5 miles away. State Parks, hiking trails, Hearst Castle, San Luis Obispo Farmers Market and so much more are all 25 miles or less.

What makes this property unique

The location was ideal for visitor who wanted equal access to some of the best features of the County. Festivals and music events are abundant throughout the County from Renaissance to Scarecrow, from Mozart to the Blues; . The area is a mecca for artists as well the accompanying abundance of galleries and art shows.

Although a small zoo is a feature in the County (ideal for kids under 7 or those with less stamina) wildlife can be spotted from the deck of the house, in the tide-pools at the beach, soaring overhead (hawks, falcons and eagles), racing along the shoreline or grazing the hillsides. A trip to see the elephant seals North of San Simeon is a highlight for young and old. Crops are abundant from rows of grapes to rows of strawberries (most of the nations strawberries originate in South San Luis Obispo County and Santa Maria). Farm Stands dot the landscape featuring local citrus, avocados, heirloom tomatoes, honey, and a wide array of squash. "You pick" opportunities abound as you rediscover the "roots" of you food. Farm to table dining is a staple of the county as the mild climates provide for year round local sourcing.

There are many articles and titles awarded the area from "blue zone" to "happiest towns in America". A google search of San Luis Obispo will reveal a breadth of information. Cayucos has enjoyed notoriety as well for the sense of "a throwback beach town" to the "down home 4th of July Parade and festivities".

I'm happy to share my insights and experiences and at the same time provide the solitude you may be craving.
