5 minute walk from Lake Glenville, private home on 3 acres with wrap-around porch, soaring cathedral ceilings, stone fireplace, 4 bedrooms, including 2 master suites, and designer kitchen. Serene vistas of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Christmas tree farms, beautiful sunsets and natural flora and fauna.
I built The Farm in 2008, having purchased the three acres from my good neighbors down the hill. My late husband and I had spent summers at their cottage and wanted our own piece of this glorious, and peaceful countryside. When I'm not at The Farm, I live in Miami and am in practice as a Psychoanalyst. My Golden Retrievers can attest to the fact that this is dog country par excellance.
Gail Margoshes purchased this chateau / country house in 2008
The area of Lake Glenville, Highlands and Cashiers provide great boating, antiquing, hiking, photography, skiing, horseback riding and North Carolina country life. It's peacefulness and serenity is its most essential quality. Come and hear the silence of nature. You'll never want to leave.
We have been traveling to Glenville, NC for over 15 years. Every summer we rent a place and this by far was one of the most beautiful properties inside and out. It was warm and inviting and extremely comfortable for everyone. We loved cooking in the kitchen, sitting at the dining table and moving to the family room. We sat out on the wrap around porch every morning and every evening. We would watch our dogs run around the property having a blast. We were so sad to leave, but we know we will be back again. The owner is so sweet and wants nothing more then to make sure everyone is happy.
I'm not sure there will be enough room to write the review I have for this property and the owner! I have rented many homes before and never have I been as happy or comfortable I was at The Farm! From the moment you head up the driveway and see this magnificent home up the hill, you are in awe. My family and I went up for one of my daughters wedding and as luck would have it I was just minutes from the venue! The moment we walked in, we were instantly at home, the house is so gorgeously decorated, every room is perfect and you need nothing. The bedding is beautiful and comfortable and so are the towels. The cookware the dishes the furnishings, amazing! Wait till you sit on the porches!! That was the most enjoyable part of the day, having coffee on the porch with my family, watching the early morning fog burn off to the beautiful fall colors in the mountains, breath taking! The huge fireplace in the living room is the great centerpiece of the living area, and boy did we enjoy keeping the fire going all day! There was plenty of room for all of us and the layout is such that your family can all be together and not on top of each other. The grounds and the house are much more beautiful than the pictures of them. We walked the property and the views are something else! We saw deer a couple times and a bald eagle even made an appearance! It's in a perfect location to the lake and to Cashiers, just in case you feel like going out to lunch, dinner or even to get some shopping in! Being from Florida the fact that the driveway was easy to navigate was definitely a plus and plenty of parking space too! I just can't wait to book this magnificent home again. I'm sure anyone that stays at The Farm will be just as pleased as we were! It's been a great pleasure working with the owner and during your stay any problem at all is taken care of right away! I hope this review helps you enjoy your stay as much as we did!
This home owner has an amazing home. Everything you need for any stay. The home is stunning. We went for my son's wedding and loved our stay. The setting of this home is lovely. Very close to the lake as well as town. But still far enough to feel like you are lost in time. The home was decorated immaculate.
I would recommend this property to anyone.
We travel to North Carolina every other year for Thanksgiving week and most of the houses we stay at we rent through VRBO. The Farm is by far the loveliest, most comfortable and beautiful house we have stayed at! Everything from the first response from the owner to our departure was excellent. One thing we loved the most (besides the AMAZING kitchen!) was how easily accessible is the house. The location is great - we even spent a day in Gatlinburg, TN with plenty of time to return back home. A quick drive to Highlands and you will find a really lovely upscale town with great food and service. Since we stayed in Glenville during cold weather, we didn't get to enjoy the lake, but did enjoy a drive through the beautiful scenic roads around it. The house is perfectly appointed and extremely comfortable. It is the perfect place to just relax and fall back in love with nature and life! It is so peaceful, yet you don't feel so isolated from civilization as everything is very accessible. The beds are amazing! The house is a piece of art! The caretaker is very attentive and helped us with everything we needed. Gail, the owner, is a pleasure to work with. Please, do not think twice about renting this property. You will not regret it! We spent the most beautiful Thanksgiving week so far at The Farm and are very grateful we came across this rental.
Our extended family of 5 adults and 3 children spent a memorable week at this lovely house and inviting setting. It was an ideal place for the little ones to explore nature in a setting where they could explore and be easily supervised. The 5 year old loved learning to fish in the neighbors' pond. We set up badminton, croquet and had a marshmellow roast at the fire pit.
They ran around the porch like it was their cruise ship. Nearby is a small man made beach by Duke power. The tv was never even turned on!
The few problems we encountered were immediately addressed by the owner and local caretaker. We would highly recommend this convenient rental.
Great place to get away and unwind. House is superbly maintained and supplied with all the necessities. Just bring yourselves and some groceries (and perhaps a bottle or two of wine.) Nice grocery store in nearby Cashiers (Ingles) carries everything you could possibly need. The wrap around deck / porch is a nice feature. We took in a few nice sunsets from the front.
This was our first experience renting a vacation property through HomeAway so we were a bit apprehensive at first. We never spoke directly with the owner, Gail, but through promptly returned emails it wasn't long before she made us feel like old friends. You could almost sense she wished could be there herself to host us!
Glenville itself offers the lake, a cool hiking trail at the base of the lake down to High Falls (pretty steep but fun) and Happ's Place restaurant which we took a chance on and found to be surprisingly good. Other than that you'll need to travel just a few miles to Cashiers and Highlands for shopping and dining but it's an easy trip. Besides, the house is so nice you may not even want to leave it! We had beautiful weather every day so we were outside a lot but would have been quite comfortable if we had to stay inside.
We explored a few different waterfalls in the area (Whitewater Falls, Dry Falls (and some others I can't remember the name of) rented jet skis at Lakeside Marina on Lake Glenville and a tritoon boat from Signal Ridge Marina right next door. We were able to tube and water ski with the tritoon boat.
My Wife, daughter and sister - in - law enjoyed the boutiques in Cashiers and even more so over in Highlands. There's great golf in the area too. Most courses are private but there are a few open to the public. We were very well treated at Sapphire National, about 20 minutes from the house. We also enjoyed dinner at a tapas restaurant in Sapphire Valley called Table 64.
I forgot to say we even had our 2 miniature daschunds with us. Most the hiking trails and waterfalls allow pets on a leash. They had a blast hiking up and down the mountains! There's also a nice public park in Cashiers with perfect trails for dog walking. I'd recommend a sandwich from the Farmers Market there then grab a picnic table in the park. We were going to go back there our last night for live entertainment called "Groovin on the Green" but we were just too tired.
All said, it was a great trip. The house is fantastic and Gail is a wonderful, trustworthy person from whom to rent.
