Front Cabins, sleep 5-7 in beds plus pull out w/1 Bath, Lodge sleeps 7-12 1 Bath
I live in the Florida Keys but spent my childhood summers on Elk Lake and look forward all year to returning to Birch and Traverse bay region in the summer!
Debra purchased this Cabin in 2008
Why Debra chose Kewadin
These cabins reminded me of nearby Camp Maplehurst. The idea here is for multiple families to vacation together without having to share space for living all of the time, this spot will take you back to summer camp or the roadside individual cabins of the 50's and 60's.
What makes this Cabin unique
One of the best attributes of Birch Lake is its clear, sandy bottom, perfect for little ones to play in while also being all sports lake. It is also a shallow lake which tends to make it warmer for kids (and adults!) You can fish, water ski or just float in Birch Lake!

The property was very nice, directions to it should reference Tricks Way when looking for the property. It is a cabin, so when we arrived it wasn't the cleanest but the owner had a cleaning person come over and correct it. The lake is very clean and nice, good location to Elk Rapids and Torch lake. I will return.
We thank you for giving us the opportunity to address your concerns upon arrival. We do our best to make sure you stay is a pleasant one, and are happy to hear that you plan to return.
Love the lake and the other visitors that were there. Everyone was very nice.
The lake was perfect for the little ones. Close to Elk Rapids, short drive to Traverse City.
Thank you! So happy that you all had a great stay.
Quaint cabin on a nice peaceful lake.
We arrived to the yellow cabin and found that it was quite cozy. No frills, ie no tv and no internet connections on site. The weather did not cooperate with us during our stay but the gas fireplace kept the cabin warm enough even though the wind was crazy. We enjoyed some of the local restaurants in the area and would recommend the Harbor Cafe in Elk Rapids. The cabin itself was rustic like a cabin you would've stayed at as a kid at camp. The bathroom was a bit small but usable. A full or queen sized bed in one room and bunk beds in the other. Both separated by curtains not doors. The kitchen was small but usable. There is cookware, a fridge, and most importantly a coffee pot. The floors are all hardwood, our pooch was mostly ok with them. The outside deck and dock would've been great to use for summer with the canoe. All in all it was a nice place to stay just to get away and unwind. We'' hopefully make it back when the weather will let us enjoy much more.
The cabin is great and we loved the location.
We had a wonderful time with our grandkids and enjoyed every minute. The lodge is a fun place to stay and has plenty of room. We did not realize the housekeeping of the cabin is up to the previous renters. We were unfortunate in that the people before us did not clean. The kitchen and bathroom were very dirty and there was a pile of dirty laundry in front of the washer and wet clothes in the dryer. We were very careful to leave everything much cleaner and neater than how we found it. Good lesson for our grandkids but we did lose time the first day just cleaning and straightening. I wish we had been able to get in earlier in the day. The lake is great but I would recommend water shoes as the bottom is algae and zebra mussel coated. Unfortunately this is happening to many bodies of water around the area. We would highly recommend Trick's Retreat as a fun, quiet place for family fun.
I am so sorry to heat that the cabin was not cleaned upon your arrival. I wish you had called me as I would have gotten someone in there immediately to take care of that for you. We do have a cleaning crew, however some of our regulars chose to clean up prior to checking out. I will be sure to address this with the family that stayed prior to your visit. I hope that you will chose Tricks Retreat again and I assure you that you will not have to clean once you arrive.
Again, I do express my sincerest apology that the cabin did not exceed your expectations
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!
Our family absolutely adored this cabin! We have been to several rentals over the years in Northern Michigan and this far surpassed the others. The cabin is adorable, the beach is clear and shallow, and we loved feeling nestled in the woods. There are hammocks, canoes, boats and rafts the kids loved swimming out to. We have finally found our perfect spot to return every summer! Can't wait to book again.
Thank you for the 5 star review. I am so happy to see that you loved your stay at the cabins and hope to see you back next year
The property was beautiful
I look forward to coming back next year!
