Our family of six loves to travel, and when we discovered the vacation home option instead of hotels, we knew we wanted a rental property of our own to share with others. We hope our cottages enhance your vacation like so many homes have done for us. We love meeting and talking with people from all over, so please feel free to give us a call!- Audrey and Matt
Audrey and Matt purchased this house in 2012
We've always loved Old Town St. Charles because of its charm, fun atmosphere, and historic architecture. When we saw this little brick house for sale we thought it was just perfect and would be a way for us to enjoy the area even more and let other people experience it too.
With everything in walking distance, we love that we don't have to pile everyone into the car when we want to go eat, shop, or play. The many festivities and events happening all year round, give the whole family something to enjoy.
I was excited about renting the Old Town Guest House over Thanksgiving. My husband and I rented the River Town Guest House in July for our anniversary and were so charmed by the town and the many things to do, as well as the gorgeous and cozy carriage house itself, that we decided to bring the family back. We originally wanted to rent the River Town along with the Main Street house but they were booked for the Thanksgiving weekend. The Old Town Guest house was better than I could have ever imagined. So roomy yet cozy. Gorgeous. Very comfortable and classy. Extremely reasonably priced for the size of the place and all its amenities-including washer & dryer. So close in proximity to Main street. I had been concerned that since it did not have an oven I would not be able to cook as much as I wanted but I got along just fine with the crock pot and microwave and electric skillet. Seriously, who needs an oven?? It was so fun to be able to walk down the street to get to wherever we wanted. We were so charmed by the actors dressed up as Christmas characters and I had as much fun trying to run into all the characters as my grandchildren did. And what a unique way to learn the history of all the characters. Everyone loved the shopping, including the short drive to Bass Pro Shop-truly something for everyone. We also enjoyed chestnuts roasting on an open fire, renting a 4 person bicycle to ride along the riverfront, a 1/2 day jaunt to St Louis, morning walks on the Katy Trail, marshmallow roast at the Bike Stop, night life at Llywelyn's Pub, pizza at Frankie Tocco's, seeing Santa at the train depot, voting for our favorite gingerbread house, riding in a horse drawn carriage, the many groups of carolers and the short but sweet Christmas parade of characters. All the decorations & lights were so beautiful-and I LOVED seeing that the restaurants were not daunted by the chilly weather-their outdoor seating is still available this time of year-they all have outdoor heaters/fire pits. I had never been out of town for Thanksgiving in my entire life and was a little apprehensive about that. Not to worry- I already miss the place and would love to make it a Thanksgiving tradition-at least every few years if we can't return every year. In the meantime, I know St Charles will be a win any time of year. And I would not stay anywhere but one of the Guest House Company properties. What a very special set up. I wish there were 10 stars because that is what these properties deserve!
Let me start by saying that my husband and I both felt like the The Old Town Guest House had everything our home would have which made it extremely comfortable and relaxing during our stay. The house had plenty of room to enjoy and even though we spent lots of time on Main Street, we equally spent a lot of time in the house as well.
The house is charming and we really liked being able to walk out the back door, take a short walk through the alley and find ourselves in the middle of Main Street. In fact, we liked that the house was a street away from Main Street because when we wanted to go relax without all the foot track or busyness of Main Street then the house was a nice reprieve. We adored the backyard, where we spent a lot of time sitting on the back porch furniture/picnic table while enjoying the unseasonably warm weather (80 degrees in October! Wow!). I thought the pumpkin on the patio table was perfect for the season :) The fall touches were everywhere in St. Charles which added to the season.
Again, the house was stocked with all you could need for a short or long stay (linens, water, snacks, TV, movies & video games, even a laundry unit). I don't think we wanted for anything while there & even without a stove, we made due with being creative with what/how we cooked.
My husband and I will absolutely be returning to St. Charles for another vacation and will be staying at the Guest House Co. again. We're thinking of trying the larger home on Main Street next stay. We had such a wonderful time and loved the area so much. It was easy to get around and it was really nice to just park the car for the weekend then walk everywhere.
I found that Audrey & Matt kept a clean, beautifully decorated and comfortable home for visitors. I would pick this rental over a hotel any day!
Above all, this was our anniversary trip and we truly did not want to leave at the end of our stay. We felt at home and we have not been able to say that on any other vacation/trip.
In addition, Main Street in St. Charles is just perfect for a weekend of shopping, relaxing, exploring. We noticed a lot of people taking photos and what appeared to be special events (weddings). We liked all the quaint shops with an array of items. Our favorite shop was Provenance Soapworks on Main St. where we bought lots of soap!
Thank you so much for such a wonderful experience in St. Charles, MO. We will definitely be back and we will definitely recommend you to friends/family!
We all had a relaxing time and loved, loved the cottage. Very well kept ; would definitely recommend.
We were a group of 5 women that stayed in this lovely home for the weekend. We were all from St. Louis but felt like we really "got away!" We had a full day of activities on Friday and found the house very welcoming and clean when we arrived late afternoon. It's a one minute walk to Main Street where we shopped and popped into a local restaurant for drinks and appetizers. Coffee and snacks provided by the owner were a nice treat early Saturday morning before our walk on the Katy Trail and a day of exploring nearby wineries. A late return Saturday afternoon was followed by more shopping on main street and dinner at a local restaurant . All five of us would recommend this home for a nice getaway. Lots to see and do in the area.
Looks can be deceiving. I had anticipated a small place by the photos but was surprised house large the guest house was when I got here. Spread across three floor there is a lower level with foyer, washer/dryer, full bathroom and bedroom. On the next level (main floor) there is a large living area, nice sized kitchen/dining room, a bedroom and a full bathroom. Upstairs is a large bedroom with two beds. The house was very clean when we arrived. You park behind the house in parking spots (fits about three cars) off an accessway - very convene t to,get in and out from. The backyard area does have a couple seats on the porch. Inside traveller information awaits and there is a selection of coffee for the Keurig. There are also snacks available. The kitchen is has everything except a stove (which was no problem for us). In terms of location, the house is very close to the beautiful historic town of St Charles (must be explored!) where you can tour the many nice shops, museums or rent a bike (unless you have your own) to ride the Katy Trail. If traveling to St Louis it is about 30 minutes and there is freeway access nearby. We loved the house and enjoyed its historic charm and modern comfort. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay
This house was a perfect spot for a 40th bday and girlfriend get together. Everything looked great and very clean when we got there. The Keurig was much appreciated by everyone. We brought a fair amount of our own food for the weekend, planning on only going out to dinner. Mostly food that didn't need to be cooked due to no stove. There was a nice gas grill which we didn't take advantage of due to being mostly vegetarian. The Bella Vino tapas restaurant on Main St had fantastic food and great craft cocktails. Everyone loved that place - highly recommended. We had a spa day at Metro Spa which is a half block away. The Katy Trail along the river was a nice morning walk and we loved all the shops on Main St. Note: Most shops don't open until 1 on Sunday so don't plan a whole day of shopping there. You can wait it out at the charming Picasso Cafe.
Everyone wants to come back. Very nice amenities at the house and Audrey was very attentive and returned my call shortly after I left a message on Saturday morning. We heard the Christmas season is the time to come back for the festivities on Main St.
We had a wonderful time at the guest house. The details the owners have included were excellent from the high end fixtures, snacks, to beverage's and wonderfully soft sheets. Excellent location and parking. Will stay here again. Thank you!
