Owners Martin and Karen owned their first ranch in Templeton, CA. until 2001 when they purchased the world-renowned 'Hurdledale' from famous horse trainers Brian and Lisa Sabo. Once used as a pre-Olympic training site for 3-Day Eventing, they quickly fell in love with the property and decided to turn it into a human and horse retreat for all to share!
Karen purchased this barn in 2000
Because...you have to see it to believe it! The ranch is centrally located, and I went to college in San Luis Obispo and fell in love with the area and always wanted to return.
Karen was a great host. Ready for us on arrival, meeting us as we pulled up to the house. The ranch is beautiful! The view is wonderful, the covered porch is a great place to hang out and to have a lovely meal, including with a spinning serving circle in the center of the nicely proportioned round table. The wildlife and nighttime skies are all and more that we hoped for. So many birds - doves, woodpeckers, hawks, and more - horses, donkeys, mini ponies, goat, and squirrels , ground hogs etc.... Deer in the surrounding areas. Amazing nature! The bedrooms are nice, the wifi and cable tv worked well, and the bathroom and kitchen are clean and did the trick. We made two or three gourmet meals. The house is a portion of a partially repurposed stable. It was really cool to park our motorcycles in the stable ! The location is great in the west side of Paso Robles, adjacent to great vineyards, and an amazing ride east of the most beautiful Adeleida area. It's also an easy drive to Paso Robles town center, and near to a great breakfast diner at the Truck stop (seriously) that is one stop south on the 101. It's a lovely, rustic, special place, with amazing nature, location and world-class beauty all around you. Paul
This property is incredible – we did not want to leave. We stayed the weekend with another couple and our three dogs, and had such a wonderful time. We relaxed on the porch, explored the huge property, and visited local wineries (which also allow dogs!). Karen was a gracious host and provided us with great recommendations for the weekend. We also caught the most beautiful sunset one night from the porch, which is huge! I would recommend this place a million times over.
We are definetly city folk who took a flyer on this property. We immediately fell in love with it. First of all, we are dog people and loved having the dogs who lived there visiting us it was a unique experience to feed the horses, burrow and goat. Very secluded but yet so close to highway 101 and Lake Nacimiento. We stayed in the main barn, a 2/1 with rustic charm, but with all the comforts of home.
Lets make this simple. You need to experience this ranch! It's tucked in the hills of Paso Robles on 45 acres of land. Horses, dogs and plenty of wine tasting to be had. Don't be silly, contact Marty or Karen to book this place now. You will not be disappointed. Hell, Fred might even be there.
It's truly a ranch and a horse barn with an attached, nice space. The porch is huge, with nice lounging furniture and a heating lamp, and lovely views of the valley. There are horses and other ranch animals around (like mini horses, a donkey, and a very friendly goat), as well as a bunch of dogs on property, some of which are really friendly and a joy to have around. The space is comfortable with lots of personality (though there's only 1 bathroom, which can be a limitation at times, and one bedroom has more convenient access to it than the other) and a full kitchen. The hosts, Marty and Karen, are incredibly nice, accessible, helpful and flexible. Thanks for the great Thanksgiving weekend!
Everything was perfect! We have two XL dogs and it can be difficult to find accommodations. Even when some places say they are dog friendly, the story changes when it is two XL dogs. We were very fortunate to find this gem. The property was expansive and very well maintained. Kudos to Yuriah, the ranch manager. The two bedroom place in the barn was the epitome of Paso Robles wine country; rustic, comfortable, relaxing. Everything was clean and well maintained. We we joined by our dear friends who can't stop taking about the place. We may be sending our other friends to your place soon! Thank you
We wanted a place close to Heritage Ranch where my brother lives. My sister and I along with my sons had a great stay. The “barn” is a very unique ranch experience reminiscent of old Paso ranch country/equestrian life. The lovely property has a lot to offer from looking at and enjoying oak woodlands, the varied animals, to spending time on the large view deck. Really quite close to town and a lot of great wineries.
With the Chimney Fire not far away, the air quality at my brothers house was too bad to host family – so they came over and we bbq’d on the deck – worked out great! Karen the owner is very nice. For a charming, relaxing country experience we would recommend staying at this property. We had a great time!
