Photos and Description of this West Hants holiday chateau / country house

High end, post & beam design with granite kitchen & bathrooms, 3 large bedrooms.

Enjoy the peace and comfort of this bright, family owned, luxury four season vacation home privately nestled on 2.5 acres of lakeside forest. This modern, open concept, rustic country residence is FULLY equipped, comfortably furnished and features open concept post & beam construction, reclaimed wide plank flooring and a beautiful granite kitchen with breakfast bar and stainless steel appliances. The home overlooks pristine Falls Lake and features a wrap around deck, BBQ, T-shaped dock, swim raft and a large lakeside fire pit. It also comes with lots of 'lake toys' including two kayaks, a windsurfer, sail boat, canoe and lots of life jackets. AND there's lots of fun stuff too like baseball gloves, Frisbees, badminton rackets, masks, snorkels & fins, super soaker water guns, noodles & coin toss. There's also 10+ kids and adult board games for fun family time.

The home offers 2 completely renovated granite bathrooms (2016), 3 large bedrooms upstairs, as well as a pull-out couch & love seat. It sleeps a total of 9-11 depending on number of little ones (6-8 in large, 2nd floor bedrooms). It's equipped with a convenient dishwasher, washer & dryer, CD/DVD players, new flat screen satellite TV, Netflix, high-speed Internet, DVD library and board games. There's also a wood stove in the living room to snuggle up to on cooler fall & winter nights.

The four-season vacation home overlooks 350' of water frontage on Falls Lake. During the spring and summer, the cottage is perfect for families who enjoy golf, hanging at the lake, swimming off the anchored raft, exploring distant shores by trail or kayak, fishing for feisty bass or roasting marshmallows around the seasonal lakeside fire pit.

During the fall and winter seasons, enjoy spectacular autumn colors, miles of hiking trails, horseback riding, downhill and cross country skiing (20 min. from Ski Martock), ice skating and snowmobiling.

Falls Lake (also known as 'cottage country') is located about 60 minutes from Halifax. It's known as a four season vacation playground offering lake and ocean activities along with magnificent wild life and sightseeing. The Atlantic Ocean, Bay of Fundy and Ski Martock are all less than 30 minutes away. For nature lovers and wild life enthusiasts, the Lake has a number of active loon and kingfisher nests, hummingbirds, eagles, rabbits, deer, moose and an occasional sighting of the reclusive black bear.

The town of Windsor in the Annapolis Valley is approximately 25 minutes from Falls Lake, offering grocery stores, hospital, museums, an Irish pub, restaurants and all the amenities of a bustling town. The town has several attractions to appeal to young and old alike including the Waterslide, Aquatic Pool Center, Fort Edward Historic Site, Hockey Heritage Museum and Haliburton House Museum. While you’re in town, stop by the local Spitfire Arms Alehouse which serves great pub fair and an impressive variety of international beers and live entertainment on the weekends. For finer but casual dining, we recommend dinner at the charming Eat Bistro.

The Annapolis Valley is also home to dozens of world class vineyards, all of which offer vineyard tours, including Sainte Famille Vineyard in nearby Falmouth and many more Valley wineries such as Pete Luckett’s, Muir Murray, Jost, Gaspereau, Grand Pré and Blomidon, just to name a few. (Designated driver recommended!)

About 45 minutes in the other direction, you’ll meet the Atlantic ocean and the historic towns of Chester, Mahone Bay and Lunenburg, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. For shoppers, sailors and beach lovers alike, the South Shore offers great boutique shopping and restaurants, beautiful ocean vistas and the ever popular Hubbards & Queensland beaches.

Enjoy day trips to Upper Clements Theme Park, Risers Beach, Kejimkujik National Park, Aylesford Zoo, New Ross Farm and the picturesque fishing community of Halls Harbour, located on the shoreline of the Bay of Fundy, known for the highest tides in the world. Go to www.ourvalley.ca for other nearby attractions and day trip ideas.

Loved our stay

  • 5 of 5

My two friends and I rented this wonderful place for a weekend in October. We had a great time. Since it was October, and also the weather was foggy/rainy, we didn't make use of the lake (and the many things provided in the house for using the lake, like kayaks and such), but we did make a day trip to Lunenburg and surrounding area. It's a perfect location for making a reasonable drive to Halifax, too. Being that it was a bit rainy Friday evening, we made use of the TV and DVD (yay, MASH!) collection, while taking advantage of the excellent kitchen, which was well stocked with various staple ingredients. We even baked a cake with the apples we got while apple picking. Basically you only need to bring your own food and drinks. There's a lovely deck, and once the fog cleared up, we went out and watched the sun set over the lake. The scenery at the lake is beautiful and provided us with many excellent photos. We specifically came to the Maritimes in fall, to experience the foliage, and this is a beautiful place to see it. The owner, David, was most helpful and easy to contact. I'm sure if there had been any problem with the house, he would have made every effort to correct it immediately. But it was pretty much perfect and we'd definitely rent again in a heartbeat.

Very peaceful and out of the way spot. Lots to keep the whole family entertained.

We enjoyed our stay at the cabin very much. The lakeside view was beautiful and the owners took great care in providing so much for their guests - from the kayaks, canoe and fishing rods to a very well stocked pantry with thoughtful staples and kitchenware. The fire pit is lovely though we didn't get around to using it like we had planned. My husband enjoyed his trips out on the kayak and the kids and I watched from the floating dock with our hot chocolate. Hope to return one day / maybe for a trip to the nearby ski hill.

wonderful vacation

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cottage for a week in August with my sister and her family to a total of 8 guests and had an amazing stay. We spent four days at the cottage enjoying the lake swimming and kayaking and the remainder of the time exploring Nova Scotia. Our day trips included one afternoon to Halifax ending at Peggy's Cove for the sunset/ dinner and another day at Hirtle Beach including doing the Gaff Point trail which is a must do in our book. Both day trips we did were about an hour drive from the cottage but easy drives without any traffic. The cottage had all the amenities of home and a lovely private dock and fire pit. Also the first night there we had not made it to the grocery store and were able to get a dinner of hotdogs and hamburgers at the camp store down the road, very convenient and Eileen couldn't have been sweeter! David the owner of the cottage was very helpful and attentive to any request and we felt he really wanted to make sure we had a great vacation. Our pictures and memories are definitely ones we will treasure.

Comfortable, Cozy Cottage Close to City

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented this cottage for a four-night stay recently and we were so pleased that we hope we can come back again next summer. The owner, David, was so helpful in answering any questions before and even during our stay. The cottage is only one hour from the city and was easy to find and get to from the main roads. There were only two of us staying there, but it could hold about 10 people comfortably. The only thing you need to bring is food & drink as the cottage has everything you could ask for and more. We lucked out with beautiful weather for our stay, so it was easy to spend the days reading in the sun, swimming and kayaking. The cottage has a large private deck with loads of chairs and a nice table for eating outside. We had a campfire each night near the water at the comfortable campfire pit and kayaked around the peaceful lake while listening to loons. The lake is great for swimming and the only one tiny negative about the place is that there is a campground next door, so it can be noisy with the sound of children swimming/playing/kayaking/canoeing near by, but if you don't mind a little noise, it is not a big deal. The cottage has all the comforts of home, including amazing wifi, and comfortable beds and a nice modern bathroom. We couldn't rave about this place more and highly recommend this home for your next cottage trip. Thanks so much for letting us stay!

A home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, sister's family and I stayed at "The Lakeside Cottage" on our trip to Nova Scotia in July 2016. The cottage itself is absolutely beautiful and completely modernized with all the luxuries of a home. We spent our days canoeing, swimming and soaking up the rays on the lovely dock and we spent the nights roasting marshmallows and drinking wine by the fire. Words cannot do justice to how well the wonderful owner took care of us. He truly went the extra mile to insure our trip was magnificent. My husband and I are already planning to return in February to take advantage of the nearby ski hill and hopefully some snowshoeing! We'll be back!!!

I highly recommend! Thanks again David!

The Perfect "Spot"

  • 5 of 5

There is really nothing that David has not thought about when it comes to this cottage. Its all here. You truly only need to bring your food and your bevvies. The cottage is perfectly situated alongside a stunning lake, with dock and raft, complete with every water toy you can imagine. Although the weather did not cooperate with us, that didn't stop the group of us from enjoying the weekend to the fullest. Little things added since our last stay have simply added to the luxury and ambience of it all; from the new lighting installed outside, to the remodel of the bathrooms; the addition of fans in every room; plenty of deck furniture/seating. This cottage is cozy, luxurious, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Our host, David, was a gem to deal with right from the beginning. Loved the new security system and key set-up. Very user friendly and much more convenient than in years prior. There is nothing more I can add. Its a paradise.
