About Stephen and Nancy Riley
We are Steve and Nancy Riley. We purchased this property in 1994 and built our first home in 2004. The villa was built in 2005.

Why Stephen and Nancy Riley chose Orosi
Nancy ripped out over 40,000 coffee trees to plant our gardens. The view, location, climate and Costa Rican people made this property our choice for our retirement home.

Peaceful in Paradise
If any place deserves the name "Paradise" this is it. Loved the "cabin" as Nancy and Steve call it. Amazing views from the terrace. So fabulous I made it my screen saver when I got home. The panoramic mountain view is even better in person of course. Across the valley you can see the terraced hillside with little white cows as birds soar by. Wonder the many pathways through their 11 acre garden for hours and never get lost. If you hit coffee plants turn around, if you want to head home walk up hill and you will see the house. Wish we could have stayed longer to soak it all in and spend more time getting to know Steve and Nancy "the Gateway to Life in Costa Rica". Just make sure you get directions before you go. We accidentally came in on a path made for mountain goats. Missed the nice paved flat road, but that all adds to the adventure.
Our favorite stay in Costa Rica
This villa is 5 stars in every possible way.
5 Star villa with outdoor Jacuzzi and great bed
5 star view of the 200+ miles of mountain rain forest
5 star host (great bread) and dogs
5 star private botanical garden
Very private villa nestled in a beautiful botanical garden.
So many birds! The sounds of the birds is incredible. My favorite was the sound of the wild turkeys in the afternoon. Large flocks of birds came to the gardens to eat every morning and afternoon.
The owners are respectful of your privacy, but available for any need you require. They helped us with our rafting trip, zip lining and gave us suggestions on enjoying this beautiful part of Costa Rica. The Orosi Valley is a true jewel. The climate was perfect with mild days and cool nights, perfect for sleeping.
The villa view is almost surreal, with layers of rain forest mountains that seem to be never ending..
The dogs are great! They are full of love and seem to enjoy our company. They came to visit every day and took afternoon garden walks with us.
The Saturday Farmers Market is a great way to see how the local Ticos interact. What a super selection of fresh veggies, sausages, chicken, fish, cheeses and fruits! So cheap and so good. Steve was a great market guide.
The baked breads that Stephen made for us were also a real treat.
This is a no brainer to stay with the Rileys. Our favorite stay in the country.
Cloud Forest Retreat w/Privacy and Exceptional On-Site Hosts
A bit off the beaten path, but well worth it! The porch overlooking the Mountain Jungle, on site walking trails and hosts that went above and beyond to help us during our stay. Perfectly functioning accommodations from a grill and hot tub to the WiFi. Beautiful property inside and out.
Doesn’t Get Any Better!
2nd time staying there and like the previous stay we had a fantastic time. Steve and Nancy are wonderful hosts. Steve is also a chef extraordinaire when it comes to homemade baked breads which he shared with us
The nature setting is beyond belief and is probably as close to Paradise is one gets. Because of the fast moving winds coming from the East the colors or the mountains and hills constantly change. Almost like a kaleidoscope. Green and lush is an understatement. Birds...birds...birds...everywhere along with many other species. Beautiful orchids on Steve’s property as well as 5 minutes away at Lankaster Gardens.
The temperature could not have been more perfect. Sweater weather in the evenings and daytime highs probably don’t get above 80.
Absolutely loved my stay there and I will certainly return!
Pictures don't do it justice
Steve and Nancy clearly come from the school of "underpromise and over-deliver," and in a word, our stay at Paradise Peak was "fantastic."
First off, the images do NOT do the property justice. This is easily one of the most fantastic, luxurious places we have ever stayed in, in a setting that was simply beyond description.
Even though the weather was not quite as one might want, we were able - in a week's stay - to absorb plenty of sunlight, delight in the area, walk in the incredible garden (a testament to Nancy's vision and passion), and soak in the hot tub (which we already miss.)
Steve helped us get started by doing a bit of basic shopping for us, and in short time we were gleefully concocting our own creations, marinating chicken in a blend of just-picked oranges and lemons from the garden, and then a day later, cooking it to perfection on the barbeque in the outside eating area. The ability to store and cook our own meals helped enjoy the area, and just added to the "it's your home for a week" touch.
This is an ideal spot - for a honeymooning couple, or for (as in our case) a mature couple who needed time away from "it all," and that's what we got. Steve and Nancy left us to our own devices, yet offered aid when asked. That allowed us to sample the various offerings of the area (Irazu natiional park, Tapanti National Park, the nearby ruins of Ujarras, the incredible food at local sodas (cafes) or the must-do tour of Finca Christina) and then coming "home" to watch the clouds roll through the valley, or count how many new amazing birds we can identify (with aid of the much-welcomed Guide to Costa Rica birds provided with the suite.)
We cannot say enough. All we can say is leave us a few days for our return.
Whitewater rafting trips are available in the Orosi Valley
