About this property

Camp Run-a-Muk ⚓️ - DEEP H2O, HUGE HOME, Fire Pit, WiFi, Kayaks/SUP's!

**Sheets and bath towels are included with this rental.**

Please note that max adult capacity for this home is 8 per Bedford County Planning and Zoning Ordinance. Children 2 and under are not included in this number. The max capacity is based on our 4-bedroom septic system approved by Bedford County.

Although pets are not allowed with the rental, please note that there are two Labrador retrievers who live in the home full-time in the off-season.

Our wonderful home was purchased in 2017 and has undergone an extensive multi-level renovation. There isn't a single square inch of the home that hasn't been touched with an upgrade! The new design of the home was inspired by HGTV's Fixer Upper powerhouse couple, Chip and Joanna Gaines. Walls were knocked down and an entire staircase was relocated in this little gem to create a warm and inviting open concept farmhouse/lake house.

The massive renovations include the removal of over three dozen trees to create an open living space in both the front and back yards. Other improvements to note are as follows: brand new roof, new 32 x 12 deck, updated dock and new 10 x 10 floater, new custom cabinets in the kitchen with quartz counter tops and lovely farmhouse sink, all new energy efficient windows, new rustic laminate flooring throughout, top of the line stainless steel appliances, a fresh paint job both inside and outside, new gutters, and fresh landscaping. In short, we've been very VERY busy!

The spring of 2018 brought new life to the unfinished basement of the home. We added a large bedroom (sleeps four), a full bathroom, and a full recreation room in the basement. The spring of 2019 yielded new custom-made barn doors in the basement, new epoxy flooring, a fully painted and brightened space and the addition of a much-needed utility sink. But, we are not done yet!

Our home is nestled in the quiet and private community of Pine Ridge located off of Toler's Ferry Road in Huddleston. The house sits comfortably on an expansive 1.5 acre lot which provides plenty of outdoor space and fun for everyone. The lot to our left is a wooded lot which offers an extra layer of privacy. The majority of our lot is open, however there are several trees on the property that provide shade on those hot summer days.

The neighborhood is secluded which allows for uninterrupted morning or evening strolls along the road. The home is set back on the property far enough from the road that you don't have to worry about summer traffic or travelers. We are located on a private road which does not yield much traffic any time during the year. In addition, the Pine Ridge community is a small group of just slightly over 20 homes. This adds to the peace, quiet, and serenity of the area. You will find that we have many full time residents in our community. That said, you will also notice several of the neighbor's dogs meandering around and they will likely stop by to say hello. All of them are extremely friendly and won't turn you down for a scratch behind the ears!

The showpiece of this property is the breathtaking views from every door or window on the back of the house. The sun sets directly across the lake from our home which offers a beautiful and romantic end to the day. Enjoy the sunset from the back deck while sipping on your favorite glass of vino.

In addition to the views, our lot is virtually flat, but offers deep water that ranges in depth from 8-12 feet. That combination is a rare find at Smith Mountain Lake!

The house itself has four bedrooms and three full bathrooms. The master bedroom is equipped with a queen-sized bed and a full bath. The larger of the two other bedrooms boasts two queen-sized beds and the smaller bedroom hosts a full over full-size bunk bed. The top bunk was "weight tested" by two teenagers and we didn't change anything beyond 425 pounds! The basement has a very large bedroom with one queen bed and one full bed as well as a full bathroom.

Please note that our home is on a well and septic system so please be mindful of what goes into the pipes. Given the extensive time, effort, and expense it took to renovate this property, we are not accepting pets at this time. Thank you for your understanding.

Perfect getaway
Every detail of this property is beautiful. From the decor, to the view, to the little extras, we enjoyed all that it has to offer. It's one of the most well equipped properties we've ever rented. The access to the kayaks and paddle boards really made the trip, especially for the kids. My favorite time was sipping my morning coffee on the rocking Adirondack chairs down by the water. Wonderful trip!

Fantastic vacation
We had an amazing vacation at Camp Run-a-muk! The property was very clean and well-maintained with an excellent location near Mariners Landing and Mitchells point Marina. Holly, the owner, was very responsive and helpful during our stay. We will definitely be coming back!

Best vacay ever!
We cannot say enough wonderful things about Camp Run-a-Muk! Holley and Steve were quick to respond to all the questions we had prior to our stay and recommended some great spots for dining. The house is simply beautiful. You can clearly see all of the hard work that was put into this home. We enjoyed lazy days on the lake, paddle boarding, kayaking and fishing. Our nights were filled with s’mores by the fire pit and family game nights. This house has everything you need and want in a vacation home. Hands down, this was a 10/10 vacation!

Amazing time at Camp-Run-a-Muk!
My family and I have been going and renting a house at SML for over 20 years and Camp-Run-a-Muk didn’t disappoint and is at the top of the list as far as houses go! It’s always hard to find a house with 4 bedrooms to fit our family; my parents, sisters and significant others, and now my children. We were welcomed with flowers (arranged by a local company with an amazing purpose), local wine and wine glasses, local honey, soap from a local vendor, and coffee. Such a wonderful touch and sweet gesture to start off our vacation! Communication with the owner was very easy and Holley was extremely welcoming. House is renovated and decor is on point. Has a kitchen table large enough for a family of 10 which was amazing for us and rare to find when renting. Kitchen has everything you’ll need while on vacation, plus a few bonus items; large coffee mugs for those early morning with young kids that don’t know how to sleep in yet, spices, aluminum foil and press and seal in the pantry. Located in a quiet part of the lake, not much boat traffic which is great for little ones learning to swim. Nice dock with 2 picnic tables. Would recommend bringing a chair or two down for some additional seating/lounging but not always necessary with how much time we spent in the lake. First house we’ve stayed at that had a pad which was a hit with the adults and kids! Very nice fire pit and sitting area for s’mores or a cold beverage after the end of a great day on the lake. Would totally recommend this home to anyone wanting to rent at SML!

About the host

Steve and I both grew up in Northern Virginia just a short distance from Washington, DC. He went to Annandale High School in Fairfax County and I went to Gar-Field in neighboring Prince William County. We are full-time residents of Huddleston and live at a local marina while our house is occupied in the summers.

We have one son, Trevor, who was recently married. We also have two very energetic water pups! We have a beautiful and loving yellow lab named Dixie. She is a handful, but we forgive her because she's so stinking cute. We also have a chocolate lab named Sweet Mia. Her name aptly describes her personality.

Why they chose this property

This property comes with a story and we have it because of my late father-in-law,. In 2003, he lost his battle with cancer. At that time, he had been retired and had owned a small farm in Augusta County. He loved to hunt, so for retirement, he purchased a 100+ acre slice of heaven where he could enjoy the land at his leisure. That was in 1996. When he passed away in 2003, we kept the home and used it frequently to share with friends and family.

My husband has always wanted to live on the lake, so when we sold the farm at the end of 2016, we began the search for a lake house at Smith Mountain Lake (SML). We had vacationed at SML two years prior and fell in love with how clean the water was, but yet it was still surrounded by such breathtaking scenery.

We toured a total of 32 homes before deciding on this one. And the sole factor that swayed our decision (because we looked at several phenomenal houses) to purchase this home - was the lot. It's a rare find to have a house with a pancake flat lot, but that has deep water. Many homes with deep water have steep lots at SML. The house we decided on needed so much work (which was a bit intimidating), but we were willing to put in some sweat equity to make this work. Furthermore, we have some very handy friends who spent countless weekends at the lake helping us get it ready.

We also wanted a property that was family friendly. We have many friends with children of all ages and we wanted our home to accommodate people from all walks of life. Steve and I have six nieces all ranging in age from three to fifteen, so we wanted a place that everyone could enjoy. My parents are in their 70's and with our minimal sloping lot, it allows for older people to get to the lake with ease. In short, this is a fun place for everyone.

What makes this property unique

The selling point for us on this home was one simple factor - the lot. We had looked at so many houses, but this was the ONLY house where no one was out of breath walking from the dock to the deck! We knew immediately that this house was THE ONE because of that. The pancake flat lot sealed the deal for us.

We are also in a very private neighborhood. There is a 1.5 mile back to our community which provides a sense of security and peacefulness.
