About Merrie

Our names are Darrel & Merrie, we met in Williams & have been married 43 years. We have 2 grown children and 5 grandchildren. Merrie grew up in the area, and has always called it 'home', she loves the mountains, pines and the quiet pace of the location.

Merrie purchased this house in 2007

Why Merrie chose Grand Canyon

We purchased the land in 2002 and dreamed of the day we would see our cabin there on the property. We drew the plans and sub-contracted the construction beginning in 2005, the home was, for the most part, completed in 2007. We have enjoyed the process, and have been doing some finishing touches since then. We are confident you will enjoy the property, and make many happy memories there.

What makes this house unique

There is a peacefulness you'll feel when staying at our home, and the proximity to the Grand Canyon, Williams, Bearizona, The Grand Canyon Railway, Flagstaff and Sedona makes our home perfect for daily outings taking in all the sites. We enjoy taking the family to the cabin to enjoy the cool weather in summer. The smell of the pines, relaxing around the fire pit and taking walks in the forest, along with the occasional sightings of the deer, elk and antelope in the area are a welcome change of pace. The Kaibab squirrels that live in the neighborhood enjoy the handouts and are very entertaining. Winters are beautiful with the fresh snow, sledding and holidays in front of the fireplace with the scent of cedar wood, freshly baked cookies, coffee and hot chocolate. Christmas in Williams is a sight to see, with the lighting of the huge Christmas tree, and boarding the Polar Express is a joy for the kiddies, young and old. Bearizona Wildlife Park and The Deer Farm are a must see, near Williams, only a few miles away. (Sorry, we do not host pets in consideration of those with allergies)

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a gorgeous Getaway. I definitely recommend this lovely chalet for your next trip to the Grand Canyon or the Flagstaff area. A cozy home in either winter or summer. We found it to have a lovely well-stocked kitchen...perfect for our family getaway. The living & dining areas are very spacious and our group of 8 was easily accommodated. Thanks for a lovely time....we'll definitely be returning.

Awesome place

The cabin is amazing. We were able to visit the Grand Canyon and go on the Polar Express all on the same day. The cabin is much more comfortable than staying at a hotel

Didn't want to leave!!!

  • 5 of 5

My family was most impressed that I could find such a beautiful home...stocked with everything you could possibly need and very clean! The view was so peaceful, the area unique. Close enough to the highway to make it simple to get around. Yes, there are trains. We live near a train track at home so this was comforting to us. Didn't bother my husband, who is the light sleeper. Merrie was easy to deal with, although there was no reason to contact her while there, as everything was very clearly layed out. We were pulling out at 11 and the very kind cleaning lady was coming in, right on time😉We had a nice conversation with her. This home has everything you need to make your stay wonderful. Thank you Merrie!!

Great accomodations!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for a week and loved it! Pride of ownership is evident throughout! This house is bright, spotless and wonderfully decorated. It has a very well stocked kitchen. This house is in a quiet location (except for the train, which didn't really bother us at all). Merrie was very prompt in responses and booking was great! This house is in a perfect location to view the amazing sights nearby. We went to Sycamore canyon, Oak Creek Canyon/Sedona, Grand Canyon and Walnut Canyon. Each of these canyons has their own beauty. This was a trip of a lifetime for us and we enjoyed every moment of it. Williams has everything you need for your stay. We enjoyed dinner at the Red Raven! The only "negative" was that our cell phone reception was not great but when we stood outside we had enough service to call.

We would highly recommend staying here!

Impressionable

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for a girls' trip to northern AZ. We loved the location and the serene setting of this cottage, while sitting of the front porch and listening to the wind in the pines. It was so relaxing and accommodations were great. Love, love, love all furnishings and decorations. While visiting we saw Bearizonia, Williams, Petrified Forrest, Painted Desert, Meteor Crater, Winslow, Grand Canyon, Sedona and Montezuma Castle. Perfect for getting away from the crowds, yet close to get to sights. We will be back.

Fantastic Family Location

  • 5 of 5

This home is very beautiful with everything you need and then some. Our family of 4 stayed here this past week on our last time off before school starts. The house is fully furnished, including all kitchen needs. We were able to travel to the Grand Canyon, and spend some time in Williams - and it was nice to come back to a real home where we could cook and eat together. We loved spending time around the big kitchen table playing family games at night and laughing. Thank you!

Pine wood can be found on the lot for the outdoor fire pit, and wood for the fireplace can be purchased in Williams at Safeway or Circle K. In the back yard there is a large play set, and we are planning to add a horseshoe pit and additional shrubbery/landscaping next spring. Please come and enjoy yourselves here at The Gateway Cottage.
