A wonderful retreat!
From the minute we pulled up, we saw the long driveway and a lush forest, we knew we were in a great place! The grounds are well kept. The interior of the cabin was clean and cozy. The cabin was large, one of the largest we stayed at in the area, with two modem bathrooms. It still kept the integrity of being a cozy cabin with the fireplace, and the cedar walls and ceilings. It’s beautifully decorated and had walls of interesting books and a large kitchen, with a large kitchen table. Our private pond was serene, and we caught a fish in the first fifteen minutes. Not bad for beginner fishermen! We are definitely going to return to this cabin, and we are looking forward to it!

This will be our forever cabin
I have been coming to the gorge for over 20 years and have stayed in several different cabins. This is by far the best. I love the history of it and the rustic feel. The property is layed out perfect and is very dog friendly. The cabin was very comfortable and everything that you need is provided. Thanks Joy and Michael for your hospitality and look forward to staying again. Brian and Marie

Peaceful Private Cabin for those who love the outdoors and nature.
The cabin was beautiful, cozy & clean. The history makes it so unique. My husband, son, and golden retriever had a wonderful stay. Joy was a great host. I didn’t need to contact her during our stay because all the answers were already provided. The cabin sits off the road down a gravel drive surrounded by woods. We utilized the path to the pond for fishing and my son caught a few good ones. We loved hearing the frogs, crickets and seeing the stars on a clear night. My family spent 5 nights at this cabin and we already miss it! It’s a short and beautiful drive to Red River Gorge & Natural Bridge State Park, so be sure to check those out one day. We would recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a peaceful & private getaway with your family or pets. Super accommodating for our doggy.

Peaceful and relaxing
We enjoyed every moment of our stay here! We appreciated so much the rest and peacefulness of our time here. The cabin was so cozy, and equipped with everything we needed to be comfortable. We especially loved the front porch. Due to an unforeseen situation, we arrived a day later than we had planned, but the hosts were exceptionally accommodating and kind.

About the host

Hosted by Joy Massey

Host profile image
My name is Joy Massey, and I am the general's daughter. My father. General James W. Little grew up not 3 miles from the site of The General's Cabin as an impoverished child yearning for a better life. His hard work, determination and intelligence led him to a life he never could have imagined. Following an illustrious military career as a Flying Tiger, war hero/double ace pilot in 3 theatres of war he retired close to the place of his birth building with his own hands this unique and beautiful cabin.

Why they chose this property

The General's Cabin is a beloved family home designed and hand-built by the general himself as his last home. I am the general's daughter and I lovingly began restoring this one-of-a-kind cabin beginning in 2005. There are unique architectural details throughout the cabin, with the placement of the kitchen windows to the stunning black walnut front doors. The cabin sits at the end of a tree-lined lane tucked into the forest. Redbud, dogwood, and hemlock can be viewed out every window.

What makes this property unique

We have rented this property to travelers since 2005 and wanted to continue to share the nature and beauty it is surrounded by with other like-minded people. I love sitting on the front porch overlooking the forest and all its delights. Deer roam the property, red fox can be seen on occasion and the rustling of the trees on a windy night is like nothing else you will ever hear. Rain on the tin roof is such a delight and a sound many have never experienced. A walk out to the front meadow will offer you a stunning star-filled night. Enjoy your own private stocked pond nestled in the woodlands. All who come to the cabin say there is something special about this beloved family home. Many a wonderful evening was spent under this roof by my family, and now I hope by yours.
