Guestbook comments from the owner

Bride – two thumbs ups – loved it!

Groom – sometimes you do things just because they are funny.

Great time, gorgeous weather, good food & great people. Enjoyed hiking, grilling, catching up and even some dancing! Dancing was during sampling of “Scottish Scotch from Scotland”

After many great times and infinite laughs, discovery of the “song-bird or our generation” and enjoyment of wildlife, we celebrated the wedding.

Beautiful Property for our Outdoor Wedding

  • 5 of 5

Such a perfect venue for our wedding! Remote, gorgeous view, and a really great set up for indoor and outdoor wedding events. We had about 50 guests, and plenty of space. We did the rehearsal dinner and reception inside, and the ceremony on the level yard in front of the house (backdrop is picture perfect). The town of La Veta was wonderful, and everyone we meet were so friendly and helpful- all our guests loved staying there. We can't wait to go back for our anniversary, or really any excuse we can come up with!

Beautiful house in a beautiful location!

  • 4 of 5

Such a peaceful, beautiful location for a beautiful house! Stephen, the ranch manager is very helpful and friendly. If maxing out this house at 20 people, there are some things you should realize so that your expectations are realistic...although the house is ample and spacious for 20, 3 bathrooms is difficult! Time your showers, so that you don't run out of hot water. Cold showers are not fun. :-) Also, the wifi is very, very slow. Takes 3-5 minutes per page to load. If you are good with those restrictions, you will love this place. It is a piece of heaven!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review. We want to address both the hot water and internet concerns. We do have two-80 gallon hot water heaters and have been fortunate not to have had an issue in the past, but it may take a toll on the hot water capacity during the cold weather when 20 or more guests try using the system simultaneously. The water coming into the system is much colder in the winter, than in the summer and we haven't had an issue in the warmer months. This was a visit over the New Year's Eve weekend. We will check the settings to make sure maximum hot water is available. Internet service is with HughesNet and if we can upgrade to a faster service, we will do so, but in the past, given the Rocky Mountain location, this has been the fastest available. I have a hotspot on my Verizon cell phone and that has generated some quicker download speeds. I'm all for an upgrade if it is possible. Thanks for your comments. They were helpful. Ed

Beautiful one of a kind property

  • 5 of 5

This home is situated in the perfect picturesque location on a large expansive magnificent property. The home itself has a well thought out design making it the perfect place for a large group to relax and grow comfortable in.

Our party of 8 adults and 10 children (ages 3-12) found that the availability of endless possibilities for our enjoyment and entertainment.

With 2 kitchens, 2 expansive living areas, 3 bathrooms, 5 bedrooms, utility room, 2 fireplaces, high wood ceilings and a large bedroom/game room over an expansive 3 floors accommodated our group with ease and comfort.

The property manager, Stephen, was extremely helpful, accommodating and attentive to our needs. He blended well with our family. He was kind and courteous to the kids who enjoyed his attention and interactive nature. He strived to see to our needs as they became apparent to him.

We would recommend the property to large family groups, like ours, looking for experiences that make lasting precious memories.

Those looking for a place for a wedding might want to consider this property.

Amazing

  • 5 of 5

This property is amazing. We rented the house for 5 days for our wedding weekend. All the Bridal party stayed with us at the house and had plenty of room. Stephen the ranch manager is one of a kind. He was there to help with whatever we needed and we all enjoyed getting to know him. All our friends already want to plan a trip back!

Beautiful Property, Beautiful Home

  • 5 of 5

My Husband and I were married at Bristlecone Ridge Ranch in September of this year (2017). It was amazing. The house accommodated our whole wedding party for the long weekend and then we had our ceremony on Saturday. The House is beautiful inside and out. We had a few issues with the refrigerators but the property manager was very gracious and helpful (even offering to let us use his refrigerator at his place). The property was breathtaking; there are hiking paths on property you can explore and incredible views morning to evening (and you can see the Milky Way at night, if you're into incredible star views). Our whole wedding party wanted to come back to Bristlecone in the future and stay for another long weekend; nobody wanted to leave. Overall, we had a great experience, a great stay, and a great wedding. Both the property owner and the property manager were easy to work with and responsive. I would definitely recommend checking out this property. It's off the beaten path but that is actually one of the best things about it. 5 stars!!

Owner's Response: Megan, Thank you for the review. I appreciate the kind words. The large upstairs refrigerator has been serviced. We now have 3 refrigerators - Main Kitchen, Downstairs Kitchen and I have acquired a 3rd refrigerator for occasions when large gatherings such as weddings need the extra space. Thanks again for the review and we hope to see you back when your travel plans permit. Thanks, Ed

Great vacation spot

  • 5 of 5

We held a reunion at Bristlecone Ranch in August 2017 and it is an amazing spot. The photos don't due the location justice. It is a beautiful area with pretty much everything you can ask for. The house accommodated 9 of us comfortably.

While we did have a few issues during our stay, the house manager was extremely helpful and the owner was great to deal with leading up to the reservation.

The location is close to both La Veta and Walsenburg and only 60 miles to Trinidad. Couldn't recommend highly enough!

DOWNTOWN LA VETA.....This small, laid-back town at the base of the majestic Spanish Peaks is located along the Scenic Highway of Legends, La Veta, the vein, served as a vital lifeline a century ago; the town was originally a busy trading center, supplying the nearby area with goods. It is now home to a diverse population of artists and ranchers. Nine buildings on the site of an adobe trading post make up the Fort Francisco Museum. In addition to a schoolhouse and re-created general store, the fort contains collections of furniture, clothing, tools and more. While in town, visit the Spanish Peaks Arts Council and other local galleries for exhibits of local artists' works. Enjoy dinner at the historic La Veta Inn in the heart of town. Just down the street is the Ryus Avenue Bakery. The town offers numerous antique and gift shops for you to peruse. (19 min, 14 mi.).............HIGHWAY OF LEGENDS SCENIC BYWAY.....The Scenic Byway follows the Cucharas River north of the pass then leads into the Purgatory River Valley. A trip on the Highway of Legends or virtually any other road offers some of the most beautiful aspen viewing you will ever see.............LATHROP STATE PARK..... Nestled in the shadow of the Spanish Peaks, this park offers a gentle climate, 103 campsites, fishing, water-skiing, golf, hiking and great views of the nearby mountain ranges. Horseshoe Lake is a no wake lake which provides ample fishing opportunity and also a beautiful serene experience for kayakers. (31 min., 24 mi.).............RIO GRAND SCENIC RAILROAD ...... Originally, these workaday trains brought supplies to inaccessible mining settlements. Today, three routes run along the edge of the San Isabel National Forest and take riders past historic places still virtually inaccessible any other way. Against the backdrop of rugged 14,000-foot peaks in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the 30-square mile dune field, with no designated trails, invites you to explore freely. The natural system of the Park ranges from sand dunes to forests, from cottonwood groves to majestic mountain peaks and tundra. The highest elevation in the park is 13,604'.
