  • Lovely, secluded getaway in sunny Arizona

We enjoyed this quiet, secluded casita off the beaten path in southwestern Arizona. The spacious studio is the upstairs of a two-story casita about an hour's drive from the Phoenix Airport, about 30 minutes from great restaurants and amenities in Fountain Hills, and only half a mile from the entrance to the Tonto National Forest. The views of the desert and hills/national forest are spectacular. At night, we could hear the distant calls of coyotes, and in the morning, we loved the birdsong and the distant crow of a rooster. We took day trips to the arts fair in Fountain Hills (the fair occurs only twice a year), to the nearby amazing Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center (you have to make a tour reservation online, in advance), and up to Tuzigoot National Monument and the town of Jerome. Sedona is also within two hours' drive, and Scottsdale is also close. To reach the casita, you take a dirt road for about 10 minutes off the main road (use GPS as there are several turns involved), but our rented compact car navigated the route just fine. The owners of the rental are wonderful, friendly and accommodating. We would certainly return to stay on Wildcat Drive!
