A Golden Retreat in the City: Bondi Beach
Located less than 10 kilometres outside of Sydney's central business district, Bondi Beach is incredibly easy to access and is the perfect retreat from the city. The suburb has a total population of well-over 10,000 people, and this number only increases during the holiday season. The beach in this town is extremely popular, and is actually one of the most trafficked beaches in the Sydney area. Much of the life and excitement in the town is based around the water; however, the main street in Bondi Beach is a great place to see some excitement, as well. Right along the water and tucked back on the side streets, the holiday rental options of this town are all well-appointed, modern and fully equipped for a beachside getaway.
In the summer and in the winter, Bondi Beach hosts a number of festivals, some of which are free and others that require a ticket for admission. The summer Christmas gathering is a special time for families and friends, and on New Year's, there is a fantastic fireworks display. Also in the warmer months, the City to Surf fun run is a great way to great some exercise and to celebrate with locals. In the winter, the annual Bondi Winter Magic Festival provides music, great food and even an ice skating rink. Throughout the year, there are several other festival options, including those based around art, films, kite flying, music, the water and much more.
Warm turquoise waters await in the town of Bondi Beach. Swimmers are more than welcome to take a dip in the ocean, though it is always best to stay between the red and yellow safety flags. Bondi Beach is a premier surfing destination for local and international visitors alike. The surf is steady, and the waves are large enough to provide a fun ride without being overly challenging. Those visitors that are interested in learning the ropes have access to numerous surf schools in the Bondi Beach region. During the summer months, the beach is fully patrolled by Australia's oldest lifesaving club. Early in the morning, lifesavers-in-training can be seen practicing their art.
Shop, Eat, Repeat
Campbell Parade is the place to be in Bondi Beach. Here, visitors have access to a number of great retail establishments, with options ranging from small surf shops to larger fashion stores. Every Sunday, the local school grounds play host to Bondi Beach's very own flea markets. Here, local crafts, artwork, jewelry, freshly baked good and even produce are sold in an outdoor setting.
Cafes and restaurants sit in between many of the stores on Campbell Parade, and because many feature outdoor seating, patrons have the opportunity to soak in the life and excitement of Bondi Beach. At the end of the day, the town's numerous pubs and bars are a great place to kick back and relax.
Entertainment of All Types
Whether you prefer self- or man-made entertainment options Bondi Beach has something for you. Many of the activities that do not take place at the beach are held at Bondi Pavilion Community Centre. Here, take interesting classes, see art exhibits or screen films in the theatre. The outdoor amphitheatre is great for live bands and events of all types. Get some exercise while you have fun by visiting the Bondi Baths. The pool at the baths is set right above the crashing waves and stretches an impressive 50 metres long. if photography or scenic walks are passions of yours, the Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk is something you simply must try.
Reaching Bondi Beach
Within close proximity of the heart of Sydney, holidaymakers have the option to take public transportation or even just to walk to many attractions from Bondi Beach. Certain transport companies also offer convenient city and airport shuttle options to get you where you need to go.
