WAKING UP IN PARADISE

5 of 5
We will never forget our stay at Beachcombers. It was the most magical and magnificent honeymoon destination we could have imagined! We brought our 5 yr old boy with us, there was plenty for him to do, and the house worked really well for a family, as well as being an ideal romantic retreat once the sun went down. I got space while hubby took the kid kyaking and fishing and I read a novel for the first time in 5 years! Beachcombers is spread out over 3 separate pavilions which was slightly challenging at first (but good for our calves and our fitness!). Once we worked out where we wanted to spend most of our time (best view, easiest to get to) we made it work really well....the best view being from the middle pavilion verandah where we ate our meals most night, and experienced a moonrise, another first for me. The kitchen was extremely well appointed and workable and we wanted for nothing. It being a remote island you will have to self cater - we purchased all of our supplies from Inisfail Coles - living on barbeques and salads and it was easy and simple living. When you arrive on Bedarra you are met by the caretaker (in this case Neil) who brings you and all of your supplies up to the house. Having a caretaker (and general island go-to guy) there was a huge part of things working like clockwork. Neil was invisible yet we knew if we called his name or needed him he would be there...amazing! Every morning after breakfast, and then again after lunch, we would walk through the rain forest down to the back beach, sit under the coconut palms and wade in the beautiful water. The walk takes about 6 minutes and on that beach I think we encountered about 4 people over a week. You can see the resort across the way, and you kind of know you are not alone, but it simply feels like this island is yours, and that feeling is priceless. Time stood still for us on Bedarra. Our week long trip felt more like a month. We hold the place dear in our hearts and will be back again, as many times as we are able. Another challenge for me was the rocky trip across the water from Mission Beach during Cyclone season. I am not a big fan of being on a boat as it is, it was choppy and pretty full on. Completely worth it however! The trip back once the weather got calmer was a joy. I highly recommend this home to anyone who wants a beautiful, workable and comfortable space in which to reconnect with themselves, their family and this beautiful land we call home

Loved it

Beautiful and clean, had all you need in kitchen, 5 min drive to fishing spots, we caught a few crabs for dinner, only thing I would do differently is take your own food, as the IGA in Cardwell is very expensive and has limited meats and fruit n veg I would definitely stay here again
