Central Tilba is situated on the South Coast of New South Wales. With the original Post Office built in 1894, this area is protected by the National Trust because of its development during the Australian Gold Rush. The name Tilba is said to either mean "wind" or "many waters," and Tilba's proximity to the fishing village of Narooma can certainly explain both possibilities. With a population of just over 2,000, Central Tilba and its sister city, Tilba Tilba, have kept their small town charm over the past century. Central Tilba holiday rentals can serve as a great home base for exploring the entire South Coast countryside.

What Makes Central Tilba Different?

Take a walk up the main drag, Bate Street, and you will immediately see that Central Tilba is a great old town. While major construction projects have transformed much of Australia over the past few decades, Central Tibla remains a quaint village with many buildings dating back a century. With the right Central Tilba accommodation, you can almost feel as if you're living in a historical painting.

Historic Architecture

The oldest building in Central Tilba is the old Post Office, which also serves a great, hearty breakfast. Beyond that, you can check out the precursor to modern coffee houses by enjoying some leisurely libations at the Dromedary Hotel. While it serves as a bed and breakfast today, it was originally build as a bustling cafe in 1895.

The Local Attractions

A lovely home in a great location

5 of 5
I stayed at Honeywood with my extended family including my two year old niece and small dog. The home is very comfortable, clean and had all the modern conveniences needed (washing machine, dishwasher, etc). The garden was fully enclosed and safe for small children and dogs. We loved the sunny paved terrace and spent a lot of time there. It's conveniently located close to Central Tilba village, Bermagui and Narooma. One (small) critique is that the lounge room is dark due to the vines growing around the balcony. It would have been nice to see the view of the countryside from the lounge room if these were cleared. This is however more a personal suggestion than a reflection upon the comfort of the property which was faultless. Honeywood is a lovely country home.
