Holiday Accommodation in Clareville, Sydney

The exclusive northern Sydney suburb of Clareville is part of the northern coastal beach region of the city, overlooking Pittwater. With humble beginnings as 2 land grants awarded to Father John Joseph Therry, the actual suburb didn’t really develop until almost 100 years later in 1920. The area was accessed by means of water and the area was subdivided in to residential zones, with local Sydney residents buying up the properties and using them as holiday homes.

It was not until the 50’s, when more and more holiday makers flocked down to their holiday homes, apartments and cottages on the coast, bringing their cars and other paraphernalia, that it was officially declared a residential area. These days, Clareville is an exclusive holiday home neighbourhood; the residences come with whopping price tags, sublime views and most of them with private water frontages.

Things to See and Do

Angophora Nature Reserve

Situated right in the middle of the Barrenjoey Peninsula, just on the outside of Clareville is the Angophora Nature Reserve. Loads of wooded forest and woodland plant life can be found all through the reserve, as it rolls over more than 18 hectares of natural vegetation. The reserve offers visitors a small glance at what life used to look and be like in the small peninsula, before it became a mini suburbia. Enjoy a quiet meander in and around this magical natural paradise.

Sailing

As the region is perfectly perched on the water’s edge over looking Pittwater, there are many water activities to be enjoyed. Being as it is such an exclusive neighborhood, with many of the holiday homes and stunning holiday villas having their own private water ways and mooring facilities, sailing is a popular hobby and activity in Clareville. The Avalon Sailing Club is in close proximity to Clareville, so for those who don’t know how to sail, or don’t have their own sail boat, you can book a charter for the day, or for the duration of your stay in Clareville.

Golf

For those of you who feel a holiday is not complete without a round or town on the golf course, then this little seaside village will not disappoint. Just around in the corner in Avalon, at Avalon Golf course, visitors can enjoy a day out on the greens, with beautiful wrap around landscapes, perfect weather, and a nice cold one at the club house to round off the day, before heading back to your holiday home.

Sydney

Of course, being a suburb of Sydney, all the city’s attractions are within easy reach. The iconic sites are simply not to be missed, so put the Opera House, the Harbour and the Bridge on your itinerary. See it all from Sydney Tower Skywalk (it’s an easier option than climbing the bridge). You can take the kids to the zoo, go shopping, see a play or a concert or visit any of the other attractions of this magnificent city. Don’t forget the beaches of Bondi and Manley, if you fancy a change from the sands at Clareville.

Climate

The temperate coastal climate of Clareville brings warm weather to the region in the summer months between October and April. Day time summer temperatures go up to 30 C and down to a very pleasant 24C during the evening. This is perfect for those balmy summer evenings at the BBQ at your summer holiday house, watching the view and enjoying each othe’rs company. The winter months run from May to September, with temperatures ranging from 18C during the day, to 6C at night.

Getting there from the UK

Clareville is just over 30km out of the city centre of Sydney. Visitors can fly directly into Sydney, collect their rental car and drive the short distance out to their holiday house.

We were lucky enough to stay three weeks in this fabulous apartment, overlooking the ocean and the Bondi-Bronte walk. It was a quick walk up the street to catch the buses to Bondi Junction or the CBD; a quick walk down the stairs to begin the walk to Bronte; and a quick 10-minute walk to get to all the shopping and restaurants we needed. Mornings on the deck, with the first cup of coffee, we were often visited by lorikeets and one morning, a kookaburra! The apartment was generously sized with good wifi, and the kitchen was well-equipped for cooking. There was plenty of everything including sharp knives and cutting boards -- a little detail often overlooked in vacation rentals! And reading lights! The building has an elevator which meant carrying groceries wasn't a problem. We stayed comfortably without the need of a car. The beds were comfy and there were plenty of bath towels and a great, drenchy showerhead with lots of hot water. The toilet is separate from the bathroom, which makes it convenient for more than two people. The management team were easy to work with and key pick-up was simple. There is a parking space, but we didn't need it. It was perfect for us, and we'll be back!

Great location close to Kings Cross train station. Walking distance to Botanic Garden and Circular Quay. Quiet. no napkins or paper towels or basic condiments, like salt & pepper, are provided, so make arrangements if you will be cooking and eating there. Also wasn't clear where guests were supposed to take their trash; we used small can in the luggage storage area in the lobby.
