Getting acquainted with Cottesloe

Cottesloe is an extremely popular beachside suburb of Perth, located only 12km from Perth City. Being a coastal settlement, Cottesloe emanates an extremely laidback atmosphere, with many of the locals enjoying aquatic pursuits such as surfing, kite boarding, body surfing and swimming. “The Sunday Sesh” is also exceptionally popular with locals and international visitors alike, and basically entails heading to one of the numerous beachside Cottesloe pubs on a Sunday afternoon, and enjoying a discounted Aussie beer whilst watching the breathtaking Indian Ocean sunset. Travellers with a beachside holiday home in Cottesloe may like to make this once a week tradition a daily occurrence.

Things to See and Do in and Around Cottesloe

International travellers, who choose to spend their holiday in Cottesloe, will be amazed by the multitude of things there are to see and do. The obvious pastime for most holiday makers in the region is going to the beach, as numerous beaches are within walking distance of most holiday houses in the area. Once at the beach traveller may choose to tan, swim, explore, or even learn to surf courtesy of Cottesloe’s surf school.

Adventurous holiday makers may also like to go snorkelling at Vera View Beach, located a small distance north of Cottesloe Beach. The waters off Vera Beach boast a wide variety of sea life, including sea grass beds, sponges and numerous species of crustaceans and fish. The extremely audacious traveller may also like to walk a little further north of Vera Beach, where they will find Swanbourne Beach, a well-known clothing optional area.

Great Day Trip Destinations Close to Cottesloe

Owing to its great central coastal setting, Cottesloe is the perfect holiday accommodation locality for travellers wishing to undertake daytrips to popular tourist hotspots such as Perth City, Fremantle, Swan Valley, or Rottnest Island.

Perth City and Fremantle offer holiday makers the opportunity to visit amazing cultural locations such as the Western Australian Museum, the Maritime Museum, the Western Australian Art Gallery, the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra and the Fremantle Prison. Travellers can also do some serious shopping in Perth with areas such as the Murray and Hay Street Malls delivering a plethora of great boutique and specialty stores. Fremantle, in comparison, gives holiday makers the opportunity to wander through the Fremantle Markets, which is held on the weekend and comprises over 150 different stalls.

Swan Valley in contrast to Perth and Fremantle, allows travellers to leave the hustle and bustle of the urban setting, and immerse themselves in one of Western Australia’s most famous wine areas. The Swan Valley region is located approximately 27km east of Cottesloe and incorporates a multitude of wineries, breweries and distilleries, as well as chocolate and ice-cream factories. Travellers, who visit Swan Valley, may be interested in joining one of the many wine tours that meander their way through the region, or may instead prefer to explore the region unaided. Those who chose to discover the region alone may also like to look into some of the great boutique accommodation on offer, in order to give themselves the time to really appreciate all that Swan Valley has to offer.

Rottnest Island is another extremely well known tourist destination, located approximately 25 from Fremantle and 90 minutes from Perth by Ferry, and is perfect for international visitors, who are interested in surfing, swimming, snorkelling, diving, or just getting up close and personal with the Australian flora and fauna. Due to the popularity of the island, various great holiday deals are available, which includes cheap same day return trips via the Perth and Fremantle ferries every Tuesday.

The Ideal Climate for Visitors

Cottesloe experiences a Mediterranean climate, which results in cool wet winters and hot dry summers. Many holiday makers consequently choose to frequent the region during the summer, in order to take advantage of the great beach weather. Cottesloe is however, a great year round holiday destination, with some specialised holiday activities, such as whale watching, only being available during the winter months. Holiday makers can therefore generally find fantastic holiday deals and activities regardless of when they choose to visit.

Travelling to Cottesloe from the UK

Travelling to Cottesloe from the UK is a relatively simple process, as numerous airlines such as British Airways, Qantas and Malaysia Airlines offer flights to Perth departing from both Heathrow and London City Airports. Once in Perth holiday makers may choose to take a taxi, train or bus, or to rent a car, in order to cover the 12km between themselves and their beautiful Cottesloe beachside holiday home.

4 of 5
Situated in an older style building the location is fantastic as it's only a short walk downhill to CBD or uphill to Kings park, plus the free Green CAT bus stops almost outside the door, as well as Domestic Terminal airport bus 935 ($4.60). The studio apartment has sufficient utensils etc for basic self catering and the bed was comfortable. Could do with a few more hangers plus a clean of windows and blinds would make a difference. Larissa was always prompt responding to emails and we'd be happy to return.

We were a group of 7 family members visiting for Christmas and New Year from various places around the globe. Kendra has a lovely, quiet villa in a very good location, easy walking distance to Garden City Shopping Centre, supermarkets, cafes and restaurants and public transport. Also 15 minutes from Fremantle and lovely Freo beaches and 10 minutes from Perth City. We originally lived in the area so we know how convenient it is to all of these amenities. The villa was very clean with very comfortable beds, plenty of pillows, crisp white sheets and 2 big bath sheets per person! There is only one bathroom with separate shower and bath but we easily managed, we were on holiday after all. There was a nice covered outdoor area, a well equipped kitchen and laundry area with washer and dryer, and outdoor clothes drying area. Fans in the bedrooms and air conditioning were very useful for those hot summer days and nights. The villa also had a double carport available to us for parking. A big thanks to Kendra, she even provided us with a little Christmas tree for our stay and a welcome pack of Tim Tams, an Aussie favourite!
