Located in close proximity to lively Maroochydore, Cotton Tree is surrounded by the sandy banks of the Maroochy River to the north and the white beaches of the blue Pacific Ocean to the west.
Beach lovers can swim, try a bit of surfing or even kite surfing at Maroochydore Beach. Enjoy a day at the beach before walking to your holiday accommodation to dry off.
For a calmer water experience, head to Maroochy River to do a spot of fishing which is popular all year round. Rent a boat and drive to Pincushion Island at the mouth of the river. This tall sand and rock formation is renowned to be a great place for fishing and can confuse visitors as it appears to shift position with the changing tide! Other activities to try on the river include wakeboarding, sailing, canoeing and kayaking.
Completing the water offerings is the Cotton Tree Swimming Pool complex, with 50m and 25m pools. Have a quick dip in the pool in the early morning before everyone rises up in your rented holiday home.

Enjoy some exercise by walking from Cotton Tree to Alexandra Headland which will give you breath-taking ocean views. Numerous picnic spots are located along the pathway which will allow you to relax and enjoy some home-made sandwiches, fruit and sweets whilst breathing in the pristine beach air.
Take the boys out for a game of football or cricket on the beach whilst the girls stay back to relax and sunbathe by the swimming pool at the holiday accommodation complex.
Cotton Tree is bustling with markets being held during the weekends in summer. The Sunday morning market is a popular destination for locals and tourists with offerings including fresh produce, handicrafts and other knick knacks. Have a wander through the stalls and sample some of the delicious local food.
An al fresco cafe culture thrives in Cotton Tree particularly along King Street. In addition to the cafes, restaurants also offer a variety of cuisines in a relaxed riverside setting.
For the ladies, it is a shopper’s delight with funky fashion boutiques and stylish home ware shops located on trendy Duporth Avenue where you can shop until you drop!
In mid-December, a free Carols by Candlelight spectacular is held at Cotton Tree which is popular with locals and visitors. In the last number of years, up to 10,000 people have attended the family event indicating the popularity of celebrating Christmas on the Coast. Local choirs, artists, bands, food stalls and other activities are also included in the program. The evening ends with a visit from Santa and an impressive fireworks display. Cotton Tree is generally warm all year round. During the summer months, it can become quite hot with temperatures reaching 30’s celsius. Showers can be expected during this time period. During winter, the temperature can reach 20 – 25 celsius during the day, cooling down during the evening. July to November are the best months to holiday in Cotton Tree.

To reach Cotton Tree from the UK, fly into Sunshine Coast Airport at Maroochydore and then take an airport transfer or taxi to the town which is only a 10 minute drive away. Alternatively, you can also fly into Brisbane International Airport and take a transfer that takes approximately 90 minutes to Cotton Tree.
